Thank you for explaining exactly what you’re doing. For those of us who have forgotten or have never completely understood the basics, your explanations make the problems simple to understand and to see where our understanding of math is lacking!
-3/4 or -0.75 is what I got. You can also write this as: (3(2)²/(3x2)-5)/(8/4x2) Now follow PEMDAS or BODMAS or BIDMAS. P/B = Parentheses/Brackets Obviously there are brackets with lots of other things in. I’ll do the inner brackets first and do the main division last. 3x2 is in brackets. 3x2=6 (3(2)²/6-5)/(8/4x2) E/O/I = Exponents/Orders/Indices. Here we have 2², which is 4. (3(4)/6-5)/(8/4x2) MD/DM = Division and Multiplication Division and multiplication are of the same level. Therefore, they go left to right. We still have the larger brackets, so the main division cannot be done yet. Also, numbers before brackets is the same as multiplying. (12/6-5)/(2x2) (2-5)/4 AS = Addition and Subtraction Like division and multiplication, addition and subtraction go left to right. -3/4 Now that we have done the larger brackets, we can do the main division. Obviously, -3/4 is a decimal, so we can keep it as a fraction. We can also divide, which gives us -0.75 Therefore, the answer is -0.75 or -3/4.
Someone showed me that instead of fighting with the order for divide, you can just restate the problem to multiple the inverse. Then you just do your multiplication and then your add and subtract.
@@sandramason4672 Multiplication and division are done at the same time, from left to right. Then addition and subtraction are done at the same time, left to right. So, (P)(E)(MD)(AS) and (B)(O)(DM)(AS) are still the same thing.

3x2 is in brackets. 3x2=6
(3(2)²/6-5)/(8/4x2)
E/O/I = Exponents/Orders/Indices.
Here we have 2², which is 4.
(3(4)/6-5)/(8/4x2)
MD/DM = Division and Multiplication

(12/6-5)/(2x2)
(2-5)/4
AS = Addition and Subtraction
Like division and multiplication, addition and subtraction go left to right.
-3/4
Now that we have done the larger brackets, we can do the main division.
Obviously, -3/4 is a decimal, so we can keep it as a fraction.
We can also divide, which gives us -0.75
Therefore, the answer is -0.75 or -3/4.
I thought multiplication is always first due to the "BEDMAS" and opposite is only true when reversing equation. I am glad I've learned this
Im relearning the Algebra basics, thanks for making things clear!
Thank you
You have the patience of a saint. How do you deal with snotty teenagers? It really is hard to tolerate.
got it right!
Final answer: b) -3/4
got it -3/4 thanks for the fun

-3/4 no calculator. Just your guidance John.
[12:6-5]/2x2=
(2-5)/4=-3/4
I know BODMAS which means brackets over division, multiplication, addition and subtraction. What does PEMDAS mean?
parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. So, it's the same thing as BODMAS. It just uses different words.
So, I understand PEMDAS now but the order is different to BODMAS which is confusing. Do we divide or multiply first?

-.75 or 3/4
your 3/4 is not correct: the answer is -3/4

1 got 1/1 but my confidence is low. Back to see the answer.
The first 7 minutes and 37 seconds went on and on and on; could've taken about 37 seconds to get to the point.
Its not PEMDAS and its not BODMAS. Its mul vs div at same priority is always left to right.

I tend to agree but some people find it helpful.
But "the point" is to explain order of operations, which is what he is doing.
