A few observations about this song for anyone learning it: - While Kurt did play G chords like that he didn’t use his third finger much judging from the sound of the recordings and live performances. You don’t need the B string fretted in this song’s G chords. - I find the F# chord sounds more like the unplugged recording if you use: 244300 - The E at the end of the second section is the top three strings. - Play the ‘slide’ part that is on the Bleach version even acoustically, it’s incredibly easy but even Kurt often didn’t do it which makes it sound like it’s missing something. It’s literally after the E part above, sound the second string fretted at 2 then slide up to another E power chord at X7555X Also, one bit of advice I’d give a beginner is not to ‘’jump’’ between chords, especially not the Em to G. It should flow from chord to chord back and forth smoothly. If you want to see how not to do it try and watch the Puddle of Mudd guy’s cover of it (he’s also playing E not Em…but that’s only one way his version sucked).
This is hard to understand for a beginner beginner like me 😅 what do you mean by not jumping between the chords? That’s the hardest part for me, trying to switch cords smoothly 🫠
Superb Marty is getting better at what he does and he was already the best so now just incontrovertible. Thanks for sharing Marty Music (I'm gonna go sign that newsletter now.)
Binh Pham everone starts somewhere. Not everyone gets the highest knowledge right from the start of their journey but as we grow and socialize our methods change. Theres not one right path but many leading to similar places. Nothing is same everyone is unique and if we dont walk the paths to get to these places this knowledge means nothing because you lack the understanding of its makeup and where its rooted.
I’ve had an old guitar for like 3 years (my brother found it in a dumpster with his friend and it’s been ours ever since) and I’ve always experimented with it. I never knew any of the chords, and I even made my own system of the chords and the way things were done. I wasn’t taking it that seriously and it was more of a fun side thing I could do, until I played come as you are. If you didn’t know im a massive Nirvana fan and that was a huge deal for 13 year old me. So that’s when I started trying to watch tutorials on how to really do it right, and I realized it’s much more complicated than I thought, but I have a burning passion for it. This was the first video I watched and I ended up not stopping ever since. I’ll have to give a big thanks to this video (by the way, when I learned it I didn’t know ANY of the chords or anything, I literally just followed your exact movements and placements of ur fingers. Not to mention I didn’t have a tuner so I had to look up a e flat tuning TH-cam video and base my tuning around that. It wasn’t that great LOL)

He's not playing an Emaj. It's E min with the G string muted which looks like an E maj because you use your index finger to mute it.
