I learned the strumming from a video Marty has that really simplifies it and came here to learn the solo, and boom you have the whole song, there are a couple "weird" chords in there but with some practice they get easy As a sidenote, I tried to learn this song with my classic guitar and it never sounded good or even close on some of the chords, but yesterday I got an acoustic guitar and I immediately got it and can play the whole song start to finish, just thought I'd say it in case that's your issue too
started playing guitar couple of months ago, and this is by far the best song teaching on youtube i've seen. Love that you' re showing the strumming pattern as well as the chords. Instant sub!
I just had to comment. This is the first song I ever played fully. And i wasn't playing it as close to the actual unplugged version. You helped me sound more like it. Just a couple chords I had wrong. Thank you!!! It's my favorite nirvana song. You do such excellent work Dave. Very grateful. 🙏🏻
Thanks for the lesson. This song is my first full song, and I've almost got it down solo and all, mate! I always know where to go to get amazing lessons!
Another perfect tutorial! Explained very well, lots of stuff visible on screen to help me with the practice. Took me a while to get used to the chord changes and the strumming but with such a lesson it's only a matter of time until I perfect it! Thank you!!! Really!
Bonjour de France :-) thank you for the video, it's so nice to play and you explain very well even for beginners and for those whose mother tongue is not English, which is my case. I can't wait for you to make us a video on the man who sold the world. best wishes
That’s great! You must have a good natural feel for rhythm! My strumming patterns are always just suggestions too, always feel free to improvise as you please.
Really great lesson ! I saw a couple of other tabs that sounded amazing but were a bit too hard for me, this is the perfect balance of rightness/ease !
Excellent videos! Just a note though, Kurt doesn't play a true G chord in this song - he leaves every string open except the low and high E strings, which are G notes on the 3rd fret using his index and ring fingers. His middle finger and pinky are not on the fretboard. Source: any live footage of this song, including MTV Unplugged.
for a long time i thought 1st chord is an Em. for another long time an E. if you play it alone, no backing tracks you'll notice something is missing or you're not quite there. it's because is an E5 that you can play like an Em or E BUT muting the 3rd string: 022X00. i'll tell you more: same with where did you sleep last night. it makes the difference, actually a lot of nirvana songs even in acoustic work this way. some folks would say simple, i'd say genius.
I got the Dreadnought and a Bartolini 3AV to get this sounds, but I must say , the L.R. Baggs M1 sounds way better, but It didin't exist back in the Kurt Cobain days, thanks for an awesome video!
Thank you so much!, I was trying to find which pickup was better for the Unplugged tone but I couldn't find any good information, it seems that all people go for the 3AV, now I´m ordering the M1 active, also, with which guitar did you test the pickups? I am also searching for a worth guitar that sounds the most similar to the guitar used on the Unplugged, I would love to give some advice from you, again, Thank you so much!
@@samsschool3639 Thank you man! for the last question, have you tried the seymour duncan Woody pickup? And the L.R. Baggs M1 sounds more like the Nirvana Unplugged? Or only it have a better sound that Bartolini?
@@ricardoontiveros3246 No worries amigo, The Bartolini sounds more like a electric guitar, almost like an "acoustic stratocaster" (if there was such a thing), that gives that unique Nirvana Unplugged Sound (Especially on the G-string) The L.R. Baggs M1 really sounds like a Country Western Acoustic Steel Guitar, but you avoid the feedback from the speaker completley, and you can use both Bartolini and LR Baggs with effect pedals and they sounds WAY better (I have the Boss OC1 Bass, CE1 Phaser, DS1 Distortion etec) I havent tried the SD Woody
Can i play power chords the other way : wrist behind and thumb up the neck like any other open chord? I can't play just like you do , with barré-like chords (wrist underneath the guitar's neck)
Hi!! I’ve been watching your tutorials for as long as I can remember!! Is there anyway you can do one for “My Lover, My Friend” AJ Mitchell? I can not for the life of me find one anywhere out there on the internet and would really appreciate it! It seems like it’s the same fingerpicking pattern the entire song, but I still can’t seem to figure it out! Thanks!
More nirvana pls
Legit all the power chords are

Marty is ok but he teaches songs wrong a lot of the time.
Congrats on the win!
Thanks for the lesson. This song is my first full song, and I've almost got it down solo and all, mate! I always know where to go to get amazing lessons!
Yes, I finally learned it. It took me two months. Thank you so much.

Thanks so much Peter, really appreciate the kind support!

thanks Dave, sooooooo appreciated.
Thank you.
I never knew I could do this but I always played the verse but did my own strumming pattern and it’s the exact same one as what you did
That’s great! You must have a good natural feel for rhythm! My strumming patterns are always just suggestions too, always feel free to improvise as you please.
Really great lesson ! I saw a couple of other tabs that sounded amazing but were a bit too hard for me, this is the perfect balance of rightness/ease !
I love your tutorials and Nirvana 😄 Could you do a tutorial on Something In The Way sometime?
Outstanding lesson thank you. Clear concise to the point and an excellent format and way of presenting, top drawer.

That’s still a G chord though, G2
@@JackoofWhackoof Right, maybe my wording was bad, but definitely not a G major chord
Just today thought of learning this and you uploaded this! Thank you!!
Fun easy song!
If you wanna get even closer to how Kurt played it, when doing the verse strumming, every 4 bars, hit a full DUDUDUDU instead of D-DUDUDU
I think just in the intro part right. In the vocals 'I need an easy friend...' there isn't anymore this dudududu pattern
Dude I honedtly had the best time learning and playing along to this one I appreciate you very much bro
You’re welcome
I loved the song of nirvana.nice lesson song from you.thanks a lot for it.
Dave you started with the classics! Awesome mate! I'd suggest something acoustic like Opeth's - Ending credits, easy but really strong track..
pretty simple, ty !
Thank you!
