DAY OF THE TWISTERS - Monster Supercell produces 7 tornado touchdowns in one day

- The Day of the Twisters is how I refer to this chase. On this day, I witnessed 7 tornadoes between Chugwater, Wyoming and Gering, Nebraska. My ride along guest and I started the day in Western WY. One storm developed and sat right over us for what felt like hours. It slowly started to spin, and eventually became a monster of a cyclic supercell. As it moved East into Nebraska, it put down tornado after tornado, most of which were brief. The largest tornado of the day that we intercepted near Gering was rated an EF-2 by the National Weather Service. It was wrapped within large rotating sheets of hail, making it difficult to see. We ended the day with a beautiful tube roping out in the sunset, somewhere East of Gering. June 23rd, 2023
I will never forget this incredible chase and I am grateful that most of the tornadoes touched down in the fields, away from towns and homes.

Every now and then, it hits me just how much work goes into making these minutes long videos that I love so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time and making the effort. People like you make the world a brighter place.
Big shoutout to the person thinking they could drive away people that drive HUNDREDS of miles to see these events with their giant truck and loud horn. Well done
Thank you so much! It really IS alot of time, energy and work that goes into not only capturing the video, but editing as well. Thank YOU for recognizing this and for your kind words. I appreciate it. Yeah, that truck trying to drive us off was annoying! We weren't doing any harm on a lonely back dirt road. And we weren't there long.
I envy all you who still do this. I miss it a lot!
Did it for 16 years but stopped to be a father.
I still remember all the storms, tornadoes, cities, dirt roads, rain, hail wind, fields, hills, trees and cows!
I still keep watch on the weather, still watch the chases live!
You are all in my heart, thoughts, and prayers every day!
Stay safe out there, ya'll!
God speed!
Wow, 16 years of chasing is a long time! There are definitely other things in life that are more important, like being a father. I had to take a break last year for personal reasons. Maybe you can get back out there for a chase here and there!
@MelanieMetzStormChasing Having seen you on a Pecos Hank video, I am glad you are out there, so I can see what England will never show me.
What you persevere, see and do is extraordinary.
A happy new subscriber.
This was such a fun chase day! I generally stayed north along the dirt roads and hook sliced for the majority of this storm till Scottsbluff. So many different shapes, colors, and sizes of tornados on that day!
It was an amazing day! I'm glad you were out there and got to witness it.
That’s the best shot of rotation I’ve ever seen! Great video!
Wow, Thank you so much!
Good chases. I really liked the pic. at the end with the roping out nader and mammatus clouds in back. Keep it up!
Thank you! I'll be out more this year and hope to capture more videos to share!
Excellent🎉
Melanie, it's good to see your videos again.
Thank you! Last year I took a bit of a break due to some personal things going on. But I'll be back at it this year. Thank you for following along! I appreciate it!
@@MelanieMetzStormChasing I'm glad that you are back & back out there! I flew to OKC Monday to chase, but there wasn't anything to chase! I saw a beautiful split on Radar, but that was it. LOL!
I had to fly back home because I had prior commitments the next day. Oh well, there's a lot of Season left.
Welcome back & I look forward to your new videos!!!
Great shots and videos
Great video Mel! 7 in 1 day woot woot!
Thank you so much!! ❤
Beautiful 👏
Until you're in its path.
@@peaceonearth351 true indeed...
7 TORNADOES EXCELLENT FOOTAGE LOVE YOUR WORK IM METAL/STORM STORM TROOPER FROM MN
Thank you!
Thank you for the video, enjoyed watching. Wow 7 in one day, I would be in Heaven lol Great job, Congrats.
Thank you! It was an amazing chase day. Hard to keep up and capture all of them, as most were so brief!
Great shots!
Thank you!
Gotta love your odds ....7 in 1.🎉😂🎉
Great job Mel.🤘😎 Great video
Thank you!
The green appearance is actually the hail core.
Great vid. That nutjob in the white truck was by far the scariest part of the day.
Thank you! I agree. Ugh!
You took some amazing pics. Something I’ve always wanted to do, Storm Chasing.
I hope you can get out there to do it someday. A Storm Chasing Tour would be a good option if you are just getting started.
1:58-that poor cow knew! 🐄 🌪️
9:17-“Oh 💩” is right!😳
I'm glad the cow was ok! Animals definitely sense the danger.
I know the tornadoes are the main focus of the video, but you got some really beautiful landscape footage as well. Very nice country you went through. Good vid!
Thank you! That's part of what made it a special chase as well, the incredible landscapes and storm structure. I don't normally chase in that part of the country. It was fun!
Awesome work! I can't wait to get back out there again.
Beautiful storm ‼️
Thank you! Good luck out there! The season has begun!
3:57 the structure 😍 also 4:26 is an awesome shot!
Thank you! It was a gorgeous storm!
Incredibly footage! Thanxs...
Thank you! It was an incredible chase day.
Wow what a great day of chasing! Amazing that you guys chased all day from Chugwater, WY area and well into NE, and caught 7 Tornadoes from that one storm.. Amazing!
This might turn out to be a heck of a year for storms and chasing. Thanks for the great video of your awesome day!
- Greetings from the middle of no and where in Central Kansas - Stafford County Kansas.
Thank you! I hope this year is a good year for storms...storms like these that stay out in the fields for the most part. You must see some good storms out there in Kansas!
Such beautiful footage and eerily majestic too. So sad tho for all those who lost homes etc. My heart goes out to them and prayers for them all 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you. It's always tough to see a storm or tornado hit a populated area. Luckily most of these were in the empty fields.
Great chasing. Job well done.
Thank you! 🥰
You gals ROCK! AMAZING footage!❤
Thank you!! It's just me out the solo most of the time these days. I had a guest along with me on this day. And he was very happy with the outcome!
Great video. Love your work.
Thank you so much!
It was actually nice to see this sort of chase - some photogenic (and not so photogenic) tornadoes that for the most part lived briefly and stuck to open country. It's also nice to see these weaker tornadoes documented, too; everyone wants pictures of rain-wrapped EF4-5 wedges or extremely photogenic tornadoes like the Andover EF3 tearing through town. Supercell was a beast, but at least it wasn't a violent tornado producer. EF0-1, brief tornadoes can be nice to see too!
Thank you! It was definitely more of a photogenic storm, which is what I prefer and love the most. I know, there are many chasers who want the thrill of "zero metering" a large tornado. It's fun to get a little close, but not that close. And I am out there for the beauty of the storm, not the strength and destruction.
@MelanieMetzStormChasing Zero metering a tornado may be something guys beat their chests over, but it's really, REALLY stupid. There's a famous Pecos Hank video of when a very large, violent wedge zero metered *him* and he did what any rational person would do - run for his bloody life. It's the only time I've actually heard him start screaming a string of obscenities in a chase.
Keeping a safe distance is a really good idea for a wide variety of reasons. The Zero Meter crowd seriously need to review what happened in El Reno. Being that close to a tornado can instantly kill you no matter how experienced you are. I'm glad you aren't one of these Macho Men that seem to like to toy with death.
This is literally my dream! I hope to one day do some chasing one day. Keep up the good work and I look forward to more videos :) Stay safe out there.
Thank you! I hope your dream comes true one day! Be sure to learn what you're doing before hitting the road. Take a spotter class from the NWS and start spotting for storms in your area. Also, a storm tour is a great way to get started!
Amazing video!!
Thank you!
That was awesome. Love the naration to keep us going. I am from Aussie Land and have sub'd.. Well done
Thank you! And thank you for the subscription. I am going to try to narrate videos a little more. Sometimes I try to get footage posted the same day or the same week, which doesn't allow much time for good editing and narration.
Nice job
that semi blurry photo of the tornado actually looks like amazing art, you should sell it as such!
No. - It is ugly and disgusting. Something that is that terrifying should NEVER be made public !!!

Thank you! I do love the artistic appearance of storms. I am going to update my photo website soon, where photos are available for sale.
Your awesome
thank you!
Nice footage, where I live, we get an EF0 or a 1 if we are lucky but we would get maybe 4 per year over the whole country of New Zealand
Thank you! New Zealand must be an amazing place to live.
Great catches Mel...
Thank you so much!
No problem...keep doing what you do...@@MelanieMetzStormChasing
You got hit by the Ghosts Train!!!! Awesome chase!!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! OMG!! Yes, it was fun! In the moment I wasn't exactly sure what was happening, I just knew it was getting windy and I was close to the circulation! I figured it out later. The Ghost Train!
@@MelanieMetzStormChasing next Minnesota chase I’m gonna follow you!!!!!😉🤞👍
W camera quality !!!
Cool. But at a point they could have entered a dangerous satelite zone
I wish I could do a chase with you! I’m in AV, Mn if you ever do tours.
Cool! You're in Minnesota? I may start doing ride alongs soon. Please follow me on Facebook and check my website for updates coming soon!
@@MelanieMetzStormChasing yes I’m in Apple Valley
The cows knew it was on the ground!
They sure did!
I would not want to be in the chaos of the chasers.
It can be a challenge at times. I really wasn't too bad on this day. Chasers did spread out a bit and it was later in the season. It can get really bad in Oklahoma or Kansas in May.
@@MelanieMetzStormChasing like I always say to my son “don’t chase the chasers!”
@@MelanieMetzStormChasing I enjoy your work btw.
Do you take donations? I tell like your work. My dad. and I used to chase when he was in the AirForce when I was. a kid. Keep on doing what you do!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you asking about donations. I am going to setup ways to contribute soon. I'll keep everyone posted. Thank you again!
that local was an absolute idiot. Storm chasers save lives.
That local was definitely being rude! We weren't doing any harm and weren't there long. Chasers can become a hazard and cause trouble at times. But this was a mild crowd and we were being respectful.
The pick up has a point. There are far too many people out there on the road.
It can definitely cause problems at time. In this case, the road wasn't blocked and we weren't there very long. Maybe 5 minutes.
9:52 what's that whispering
Probably her talking in the real video
9:23 Mother Ship
YES!
you should have gone today. an ef3 hit Russell point Ohio killing three people at a trailer park, and an ef1 hit Milton Kentucky
I'm sorry to hear that. I would rather not witness destruction like that. But it happens at times. If we are there, we stop to help when it's needed.
😢😢😢😢😢no😮😮😮
Can hear the cows mooing
I think the storm chasers are a little bit too close
It is dangerous to get too close when you are in the path of the storm. As chasers, we try to stay outside the path where we can get a view of what's happening.
2:50 man even when there's a twister right in front of them some people can't help but to act like Karens
7 funeral clouds
Luckily none of these tornadoes injured anyone. This is the kind of storm I prefer to witness
I lived in Cheyenne Wyoming
There's no tornado
The tornado was not directly in the town. It was nearby.
Because we 'locals' as you put it are tired of you all clogging the roads.
Waste of time if it's a public road
Yes, I understand it can get bad at times. I try to be respectful and always pull off the road in a safe spot so I'm not in the way or causing a hazard. But I hear you. It's true. Some chasers end up causing hazards for locals as well as other chasers.
Ha it’s a boring cloud
Everyone has an opinion. Thanks for sharing yours.
