- Al Green - Love and Happiness
Lyrics:
Love and happiness, yeah
Something that can make you do wrong, make you do right
Love
Love and happiness
But wait a minute
Something's going wrong
Someone's on the phone
Three o'clock in the morning
Talkin' about how she can make it right, yeah
Well, happiness is when, you really feel good with somebody
But nothing wrong with being in love with someone, yeah
Oh, baby, love and happiness
Love and happiness
Love and happiness (love and happiness) oh
I have to say
Love and happiness (love and happiness)
Love and happiness (love and happiness)
You be good to me
I'll be good to you
We'll be together, yeah
We'll see each other
Walk away with victory, yeah oh baby
Love and happiness (love and happiness)
Love and happiness (love and happiness)
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Make you do right, love'll make you do wrong
Make you come home early
Make you stay out all night long
The power of love
Wait a minute
Let me tell you
Oh the power
Power of love
Power of love, power
Make you do right, love'll make you do wrong
Ha yeah
(Love and happiness, love and happiness)
Say love
(Love and happiness, love and happiness)
Make you want to dance
Love and happiness
Love is, wait a minute, love is
Yeah, walkin' together, yeah, talkin' together
Say it again, say it together, yeah
Say wanna moans
Moan for love, say, hmm
Moan for love, hmm
Moan for love
Talkin' 'bout the power

that opening guitar riff is just pure magic
Man I keep replaying it lol. Never heard an opening like that.
I grew up on this and have my own guitar.. I kept searching until I found a lesson that taught that opening bcuz without it??? It ain’t the song!!!!!
That's "Teeny" Hodges Al's band director and co-writer of a lot of his songs.
The chordal part of it, I guarantee you, has been digitally sampled and recycled in many other artists' work over the years.....it's kind of a descending pattern that grabs you....not necessarily in a happy kind of way, but definitely ear grabbing.

This just brought back a memory of mine. I was driving down the street in an 87 escort bumping this, at that time one of my favorites. Guessing I was early twenties, pulled up next to a lady; humping and bumping. I looked at her she looked at me and we both fell out laughing. Loved and still love me some Al.
My mum's fantastic taste in music brought me here.
I will never forget the first time I heard this song, I was in college in a car with friends and this song came on the radio and it was the best thing we ever heard, we LITERALLY got out of the car and danced in the street. This song blows my mind. The power of love! And good music!
Danced to this in NYC Discotheque (1972-73) called Tigress w/a smooth Puerto Rican w/an umbrella, like a walk and a dance. Never forget it. Love this song!!!

@@man-man4496 - 19 yrs old: You & Sosa slaap have your whole lives ahead of you. Be thankful for your young years while you have them, make the most of them wisely & responsibly, & in the future, your older self will be thankful. So many people who are older wish they could go back in time to when they were teens & give their younger self some wisdom that they gained from years of living so they would make some different choices in their life, but we can only do our best as we understand it at the time, so some older people try to pass on some wisdom & perspective to younger folks. I'm a bit older than you, so here's 1 bit of wisdom I'll leave with you: enjoy your youth responsibly, & don't play with anyone's heart. Instead, treat other people as you would want them to treat you. A family member who I loved passed away as a teenager, so that's why I stopped to take a few minutes of my time to share some thoughts with you, including this:
You both said you're an old soul. It's great if you know you have a soul. It's the most important thing you have in life! You matter. Your life & your soul matter. The devil is real & he's a thief, a killer, & a Liar that comes to steal people's souls & take them to hell through evil & thru temptations in this world. But Jesus loves you! He came to Earth to give life. God is our heavenly father. He made you & you're precious to him. As you might already know, Jesus (Y'shua) loved us so much that even though he was without sin & he didn't deserve any punishment, he was willing to take upon *himself* the punishment *people* deserve for *their* sins. He took our place in punishment, which is what he did on the cross or the stake. He loved us so much that he paid the penalty for our sins & for mankind's sins to offer us forgiveness of *our* sins & offer us eternal life in heaven. We can accept his offer by doing this: 1) pray a prayer truly repenting of sin, (it has to be true/sincere because God knows our thoughts, heart, attitude, & actions), 2) ask God's forgiveness, & 3) then pray something like this: "Jesus, I make you my Lord & savior." Then all we have to do is have a personal relationship w/ Jesus by including prayer to him in our life on a regular basis, & do our best to learn Jesus's teachings & live by them. Do yourself a favor & read a New Testament in modern English as soon as possible. Personally, I don't put the teachings of Jesus's students (the disciples) at the same level as Jesus's teachings, so I prefer a red-letter edition w/Jesus's words in red. (You can read the Old Testament later.) Jesus's teachings include this most of all: Love God w/ all your heart, soul, mind, & strength, & love others as yourself. Hate no one. Forgive Everyone. That's extremely important. If we don't forgive others, God won't forgive *us.* (That doesn't mean we have to agree w/ the way everyone is & it doesn't mean we have to let someone into our life if we don't want to, etc. Forgiveness is spiritual. For ex, if someone abused you or committed a crime against you, you could still testify against them in court if you want to, but you must forgive them spiritually & not let them put hate in your heart.) Pray even for an enemy. (It can be easier said than done sometimes, but you can just pray for them to change their ways & for their soul to be saved. And because Jesus taught us to be humble, pray this too: 'God, if I'M wrong about anything, show ME'). Also, Jesus said if we're not willing to acknowledge him in front of others, then he won't acknowledge us in front of his Father in heaven. "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13.) There's no other name given by which we can be saved: there's power in the name of Jesus. Jesus loves you!
Same here💯

Happy 72nd birthday to the Reverend Al Green, the preacher Soul vocalist first great soul singer of the '70's and arguably the last great Southern soul singer. With his seductive singles for Hi Records in the early '70's, Green bridged the gap between deep soul and smooth Philadelphia soul.

I didn't quite understand the lyrics when I was a child. My mother always played Al Green and this song in particular. At 26 years old I finally understand the lyrics and it hits hard. RIP My entire life.
My mothers' song was Me & Mrs. Jones. Like you I didn't understand why she played that song, over & over, again.
My parents have played these songs ever since I was little kid. They said If I was throwing a fit or something, when Al Green, James Brown, or the Dixie chicks came on I would shut up and calm down. Funny how these musicians still have the same affect on me today.
Me and my family love this music
I never understood this song when I was young either. I thought I knew it all. Today this is my theme song.

Our grandma bought each of us kids a transistor radio when we reached a certain age. 13 was the benchmark. LOVED my transistor!
@@lauramalek3128 was Al Green being played on pop or R&B stations?
19years old and they don’t make music like this no more💔
Irresistible lyrics, voice and beat! Al Green is one of the best. If you don’t get up and dance, like Christianne said check your pulse!
@lizvarela3581.
Tiene todo la razón, la música de hoy en día, no vale nada, esto si es música y de la mejor, vocaliza bien, buenos músicos, y dan ganas de bailar y yo ya soy mayor.
Un saludo desde España🇪🇸.
