    When I was little I asked my uncle Jerry, "uncle, why do they rush the mound after getting hit?" He asked me, "you ever been hit by a 93 mile an hour fast ball?" I said, "no." To which he just let out final, "alright then."

      The people that ruch the mount are the same people that go on the DL list for a broken nail. If you don't wanna get hit I'm sure some underhand pitch team would let you play

      Yeah, just sucker punch the pitcher in the back of head after the game. That's what we always did.
      We put 36 pitchers in the ICU. 14 of them are still there, (they never got better).
      That's the best thing pitchers can achieve in life. Dying for throwing balls at someone

    These retired pitchers, no matter how old, can always still throw spot on if they feel like it. That recent Red-Bull prank video with Greg Maddux is more proof. I don't know why university-level coaches aren't hiring these guys as consultants to show up for a few days and strike out their kids, teach their pitchers a few things. There are so many retired pitchers just sitting around watching Judge Judy.

      Baseball has a history of unwritten rules. For example, if a guy hits a home-run and showboats it too much, (even by running the bases too slowly!) he might get taken down a peg by a fastball to the ribs, to remind him not to show up the opposing team or pitcher.

    Just my opinion, as a fan, I don't really want to see someone get hit with the ball, for any reason. I also don't think fighting should be a part of hockey. I watch to admire the superior physical and mental abilities to play the game, not to see school yard bully tactics.

    • @288theabe
      @288theabe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing about fighting in hockey is that it regulates the emotions of the game. Guy A does something dirty to Guy B, a one-on-one fight ensues, and the incident is behind them, everybody goes back to playing hockey. If fighting is taken out of hockey like the NHL tried to do back in the '90s, you're going to see a lot more stick infractions which is going to cause further injury.
      Fighting is starting to be phased out in the professional level. The major junior leagues are going with suspensions if you go over a certain number of fights per season and it's really starting to show improvement, but it's going to take time because these guys are still under 23. Until that generation of players can prove they can play in the show, this is only an experiment, but at least something is happening to curb fighting instead of just talking theoreticals about it.

      My dad was a pitcher (though he never became pro, he never had the speed, more so just threw what other coaches called "garbage") but he always said that he would usually try to pitch a fastball right inside of the batter to try and throw him off his rhythm and get in his head, and sometimes he'd hit them to sort of scare the next guys up to bat. He wanted them to be thinking "this guy might actually hit me." and have the threat of getting hit sitting in the back of their mind to throw them off their game.

    Video didn't explain why pitchers do it at all. I don't get it, the players are getting paid huge money they got big careers in the top level, and their intentionally throwing into a batter because of some playground mentality that they are opposite teams so they want to be aggressive and hurt each other? I'm an Australian that doesn't really understand baseball, but for some reason I love watching videos of people getting kicked out of the game so I see a lot of pitchers throwing into batters, but still don't know why they do it.

    When I played, IF you hit one of my guys at LEAST the first one one getting hit. He better roll with it to lol you CAN NOT allow someone to hit your teammate!! It is NOT permissible at ANY level. Of course You NEVER head hunt!! THAT TI IS UNACCEPTABLE!! But but yeah as a pitcher you simply can not allow a hitter to take away part of YOUR plate. If he puts himself over the plate he is IN PLAY. What do you do when someone squares off to bunt? There is only one pitch. I’m not saying to ever head hunt or try to throw a 90 MPH bullet through someone. But at times it’s part of the game. It’s really not much different in terms of thinking than actually rolling into a pitch when you need a runner or diving for a ball. The game can be about sacrifice. You must be dedicated to the game and your teammates.

    This is actually the reason why my mother didn't allow me to play baseball. The first time, she watched the game live, the very first pitch, the batter got hit in the head and was immediately brought to the hospital.

    • @TwoPyramid
      @TwoPyramid 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your mother had the right idea. Games like football and baseball should be left to professionals who are born with physical size and strength and have a lot of time to practice so they can handle the game without risking serious injury on every routine play. Fun sports for normal peole are tennis, pickup basketball and floor hockey.
      Here's a basic question- if you played baseball, got hit in the head, and had to go to the emergency room, who's going to pay the hospital bill?

    • @nogamenolife1901
      @nogamenolife1901 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TwoPyramid

      @@nogamenolife1901 That is true, you could go to the hospital even from playing pick up basketball. That was a stupid comment on my part. I guess what I was trying to say is that there is a much higher risk of very serious injury or death with sports like baseball, football and ice hockey. And for the recreational athelete and even most 'student atheletes', the risk isn't worth the reward.

    Honestly in my opinion there's no excuse for pitchers hitting batters, especially if you in the AL and you don't have to come up to bat yourself later. It's completely unfair that the helpless batter is put at the mercy of a 95-100 mph fastball and literally can't do shit about it to the pitcher

      Every sport has it's own version of "the code"-an unwritten set of rules that govern how players conduct themselves, and breaking the code can lead to payback. It's just more obvious in baseball because the pitcher/batter interaction is totally exposed, and literally everybody in the park is looking at it.
      In the American League, you can't retaliate directly against a pitcher who hits a batter, because the pitcher never comes up to bat. So, you do the equivalent of what he did-he plunks your number 5 hitter, so you nail their #5 hitter.
      And sometimes, you go after an innocent guy because it's the fastest way to stop whatever's going on. Suppose two consecutive batters hit home runs, and they stand there admiring the flight of the ball like they've just spotted a rare bird, and then take a leisurely stroll around the bases. It's going to be a couple of innings until they come up again (and if it's late in the game, they may not come up at all), so the next guy gets hit to let the other team know that they need to knock that stuff off.

    I'm a baseball lifer and IMO you should never hit a batter on purpose. If you have beef with a player or team then just beat them. Intentionally hitting a batter is BS and non-competitive. Strike the guy out, throw however many scoreless innings. Hitting a guy is just immature to me and in the long run does no good for anybody. If you hit a guy the other team is just going to retaliate. It's and endless cycle of stupidity. The dumbest part is whichever team wins is then a target to get hit the next time the 2 teams play. If you don't like a certain team or the way a certain player behaves then beat them. Intentionally hitting players is for losers IMO.
