- There is a lot of misunderstanding when it comes to OCD. Many see it only as a cleanliness and order issue, but it is much more than that. Today I want to get into what OCD is by first explaining what obsessions are, how they show up and what topics are often material for the obsessive thoughts.

It amazes me how I'm 26 years old, went to therapy and saw many doctors and counselors since the age of 14, yet this went under the radar because I never thought the way I thought and responded to them would be an abnormality. You are such a blessing and I'm thankful you do this in your minsitry. The Lord through you has helped me reach so much breakthrough. Keep up the awesome work
The pdemic really exacerbated everything for me. I'm immunocompromised; it became a fear for valid reasons, but it took many years to realize it had taken on a life of its own. Being locked in an apartment for 3 years just gave all my other distortions permission to run amok. I felt like I was going crazy and I couldn't find anyone to reach out to for help. Then, I came across this channel. I'm getting the help I need now 🙏🏼
I relate very much, as I was (and still am) chronically ill when the pandemic struck. I didn’t even know my mental struggles were OCD, but the pandemic, combined with my poor physical and mental health, broke me. My OCD has been worse ever since. So, the pandemic was actually one of the painful, yet necessary, steps to eventually lead me to get help ... and then this channel came up. 😊
Thank you for a sober insight on this. I've had OCD my whole life. What frustrates me about it is that it just latches on to everything. Like everything in scripture applies to everyone else, but if you have OCD then it needs to be dealt with differently. For example -- Paul says that God's spirit is not one full of fear, and whoever fears has not been made perfect in Love, written by John. Essentially if the love of God dwells in us and in our hearts and minds, we won't be a slave to fear. That gives a lot of hope to people with OCD, but when we seek for God to deliver us or to reveal his Love to us so that we would have peace, that in and of itself turns into a fearful obsession and compulsion that never ends. So seeking God is difficult with this "disorder", which I don't even like calling it that because it confirms that lie that I'm broken
I've dealt with this for as long as I can remember intrusive thoughts and obsessing over them and trying to fix them, so glad you make these videos! Well done Mark Dejesus you have much wisdom. 👏 👏👍🏻
did anyone else just stare at the "oragnization" ...and realize you needed to be here?
LOL
Ohhhh ... was that a purposeful mistake?! Not me struggling with perfectionism over here. 😅
@@MelissaDeJesus777 Ha ha. Will there be a Friday sit-down chat this week??? ❤️
🤣🤣
Excellent. Can’t wait for part 2! I really resonated with the reminder that OCD attacks our highest values. That is both insightful and relieving!!
My current compulsions has to do with movies. I watched lots of horror movies as a kid. They hold memories. Weirdly good/bad.
@CJF17 Really well said. I struggle with being a misfit. Anyways about the movies and games. I usually tend to lean towards an obsession of doing things out of being bored. My medicine is a difficult, and situation that makes me have attention difficulty, sometimes I also have absent seizures. The only person in my family who knows this is me. I'll occasionally doze out of conversations and nobody knows. I can tell cause I'll feel anger that starts to stir up. I will go on walks and that usually gets my mind free of intrusive thoughts.
Thanks mark, ordered your book yesterday. I still have two others of yours I need to read, but as a sufferer of OCD I'm going to read this one immediately. I hope it helps give me some insights on how to help tackle this monster. My life has changed alot since discovering your work, it helped to respawn my relationship with God, keep it up my brother
I love listening to u in my daily quiet time, before praying and going to sleep.
This should be a pretty good stretch here.. starting the new book, as well as watching this new series on OCD at the same time!
Yes! 🙌
Hi Mark. Watched this later. May rewatch it. Yes the fact that ORGANIZATION was misspelled is too funny. 😂
Thanks for your content ❤
Wait till you see the mispelling in part 2

I’m learning so much from Mr. DeJesus, you’re a true blessing in my life. I’m taking notes and working on this actively and I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. Just putting words ans stating examples validâtes so much for me. Your work is freeing. Thank you for what you do, you are very talented!
💖🤗🌸🥳
Thanks for being clear and concise and inclusive to many forms of OCD.
Thank you so much for this! Looking forward to reading the book as well 🪻
Thank you for your amazing work 😊☀️🙏💫🍀
Mark you are triggering my sense of perceived disorder with the misspelling of "oragnization" 😂🤣just kidding but I thought that was funny
Can you share topic on healing shame and trauma ?
Hi Mr. Dejesus! How's your family doing? I was wondering if you would do a video on the love langueges. I'm wondering and really obsessed about love!
Well uncle Mark, I'm not sure what to do anymore.
I’ve been obsessing whether gaming is a sin or not even though I’ve been doing it and enjoying it my whole life. I started to fast constantly from gaming and eventually mostly stopped gaming. My mom became really worried about me because I became depressed and saw my faith as sacrifice = salvation, so I was scared that having pleasures and enjoying life was a sin since my pleasures mostly lay with gaming and nerdy stuff. I also have a lot of intrusive thoughts that say all kinds of things, but one is about God abandoning me if I game. It’s sad, because it brings me great joy to game and most of my friends are online. If it’s God’s will though, I will stop.
The issue of gaming being a sin is a common religious OCD these days.
It's really about how you relate to your thoughts and your life that calls for equipping.
@@marktdejesus If you don’t mind me asking, what do you mean?
@@marktdejesus I mean it makes sense that that’s a common OCD thought, it’s a common way these days to relieve stress and anxiety as well as socialising with friends and people you’ve never met before. Games, however, do include things like violence and magic often. However, these things aren’t real and for conscious and moral people it often doesn’t affect them (especially if it allows them to relax and have some down-time). The fact that games often still include violence and magic and other such things though is still a point of concern.
@Mark DeJesus Would it be possible for you to do a video on how to read the Bible better and Pray better. With tips on how to stop stressing about life for a moment and spend some undistracted time with God?
I did a bunch of videos on this. My mental health series.
@@marktdejesus Okay, thank you for your guidance. Your channel has been a God send to me and a great help. Now that I have stopped stressing so much about getting my Bible study perfect I have noticed that I can actually read the Bible for longer, with-out losing focus as easily. I am still learning how to pray better and focus on God more though, but with God's love and grace I will get through this. God bless everyone reading this, amen!
Mark, I am curious on your thoughts about one thing you said. You said "OCD attacks someone's moral values." Something I always question is: the fact that we are born with a sinful nature, why does it seem like we still have morals and values? I understand after becoming a Christian, but even before I became a Christian, I had moral values that were just and according to the bible and still struggled with OCD. Do you think us having moral values negates the fact that we are born with a sinful nature? I just always question this when it comes to my OCD. This question might even be a reflection of my OCD: If my nature is sinful do I really want to commit these thoughts or could it just be OCD? TIA
We are born with the law written on our hearts. That’s why everyone has a conscience. Even people who don’t believe in God, feel and know that murder, lying, cheating, stealing, hypocrisy etc… are all bad!! You can find this talked about in Romans 2:14-15
