Here is something fellow Diablo 2 veteran Dbrunski did not cover. While you're trying to find the next level of the tower maps, always aim for the left of where the entrance is pointing. This always works in all maps of the tower. the exit will always be to the left of where the entrance was pointing. knowing this you won't have to search the entire map blindly and rather know where you are going! PS. This also works for Durance of Hate from my observations. (unconfirmed) Note: This does not mean literally where the stairs of the entrance are pointing, but rather where the first corridor once you enter is pointing. This is what you should look at. Exit is always to the left of the direction that corridor is pointing. Now, sometimes the maps on hell, which are bigger, can be dodgy and still make you explore most of the map, but in many cases this does help you a lot and speed up the process of getting to the countess!
It's not EXACTLY correct but close. Let's say whenever you enter a tower level, your firsr corridor points forward (regardless which way it actually goes). The exit will then always "point" to the left, but may not necessarily actually be to the literal left. It may be towards the right, but bend around and end up pointing left. This isn't that common on normal and nightmare, but it's not strange to see it happen on hell where the maps are much bigger. MrLlamaSC explains it pretty well in his speed run tutorial.
I do know about this map reading and the triple left synn is referring to. I mostly play single player so I always have the same tower map! thanks tho kev for the input! :)

I have not playead for like over 12 years (I think)...well I played for about three months one time and got to early hell difficulty on a bettlenet summoning necro. I actually had good luck with my drops a few years ago when I did that. I just lost interest and had a lot of other things going on. Now that I understand single player mode a bit it gives me a reason to play and keep coming back to it over time. I mean...I used to play a good bit ad I NEVER even considered single player but now that I understand it I am relieved. I have learned so much from 15 or so of your videos. They really convinced me to play again and enjoy it. Single player is the only way for me to go/play. You bring a lot of people joy with these videos sir. Especially folks that probably might not ever even play again like me. You got me back into the game with your videos and brought me a lot of joy. I hope you keep it up and know that your positive influence is appreciated. I hope that brings you spme joy man and increases your joy and reward in what you are doing.
Yesterday i got a gul rune on chaos sanctuary and a estucha 3 skill, 16% lightning 12%fire on the pits 2nd level. I never thought I would be back into the game. Thanks dbrunski 💪
I have done about 250 countess runs this season and she's coughed up 3 Ist runes, (as well as a bunch of other mid runes) so it absolutely works. I've also gotten an Ohm, Mal and Lem rune off some other random monsters in the tower, as well as some decent unique items such as Harlequin Crest, so I make it a point to blow up unique mobs and champion packs since they aren't tough by hell mode standards and go down in just a couple of seconds. I spend maybe 30 mins per days doing countess runs, its relatively painless and has paid off.
I wanted to celebrete 20th aniversary of D2 but Blizzard deleted my accounts for inactivity... So I started to play on single and plugy 😀 I really enjoy it and your Chanel is very helpful 😀 I want to say that when I was doing a quest on hell I got Vex rune from Cauntness chest 😎

Check out the movie about her. It's called Bathory and it's made by Czechs, Hungarians and a few other countries. We don't know much about her - what's the legend and what's the truth. And the movie shows all these doubts. I mean she bathes in blood, but later you realize that might be not blood. Or maybe it was? The whole movie is like that :)
Okay so im a returning player and is planning to buy the game again but as i was watching, the narrator for the tome reads "bathe in the blood of 100 virgins" then it clicked in my head the countess was base on Countess Elizabeth Bathory! Just wanna share this haha anyway great vids for guides and am excited to play the game again 👍🏻👏🏻
FYI, If a player who hasn't completed the quest creates the game, and any other player (even if they've completed it, and even if the other player has left) kills the Countess, the bonus chest will also open which occasionally drops a few more runes. So just don't do the quest on one of your characters you use to create games, and then switch to your main character to kill her. I'm not sure if this is actually worth the effort, as I have no idea what the chances of getting runes is from that chest. Also, I've only verified this in D2:Resurrected. Dunno if it exists in LOD.
A countess guide should be a map guide imo. And while the general map generation quirks are explained in 5 minutes you can fill a full hour how to best recognize which layout is most likely and how to minimize the average time to next level.
when playing on battlenet, always 'hug' the wall to the left as you try and find the next level, most of the time you'll find the next entrance quite fast that way.
I am one of those returning players to D2 ... been playing it when it was at it's height (2001 - 2006) and been playing it now and then on single players since 2016 but recently I've found D2 streamers and I really like your runs... you have a lot of patience which I kinda lack :))) Now, the reason I'm writing all this is because i have a question, does patch 1.14 changes anything in Andariel & Mephisto drops(mostly Andariel)? I ask this because I made a new sorc char and I took her to nightmare at lvl 28 or 29 i believe well, ever since lvl 29 (let's say) I only farmed andariel and mephisto and I only got ONE unique ring and no unique amulet... how many runs youn may ask... idk.. a couple of hundreds.. I'm lvl 66 now.. so, from lvl 29 to 66 I only farmed andariel and mephisto on nightmare and it drives me crazy ::)))) I've seen djwaters video (100 andariel farms on nightmare) and he got SOJ on first run... I also want to mention I've done my runs on players 1; players3; players5 & players 7... I've seen no difference in jewellry drop It's all garbage... I see pretty much everyone playes on 1.13 and plugy which I don't have
Its just rng my friend. I wouldn't personally spend too much time on nightmare Andariel. Even tho she has the best drop odds for an soj in the game on nightmare, Soj isn't make or break for your sorc as your building her up. Hit up nightmare mephisto and try to get your viper magi that will be more beneficial then an soj. Nightmare baal can drop shako as well so you can farm him for that as well. Personally I would try to get to Hell as soon as you can and moat trick mephisto over and over again with a blizz sorc to get your base gear like skullders etc. Then hit up the Ancient Tunnels till you puke. No cold immune monsters there and any item in the game can drop from that location. Pindle is also an excellent spot to hunt for tals armor. Hope that helps. Ultimately tho D2 is a game of rng. It took me till level 97 and 1/4 to find my first maras. Don't give up keep grinding ! :)

So depressing to not even get 1 Lum or Lem rune after 500 Pit runs and like 50 Countess Hell runs (Damn those CI/PI spirits =( ). With my lvl 86 Wind Druid I still wear Stealth and Ancient's Pledge. And yes, I don't have any other good good replaceable pieces.
Well then I was really lucky, Like week ago I farmed keys for amazon torch and I acutally got 3 ist runes from her in like 50 60 runs also found 4th ist on 4th floor from random monster, finally completed 6 isted phase blade :D
Hey Dbrunski, did you ever drop LO from the Countess? Playing since 2002 and never found a legit LO rune drop so far. Currently playing with another veteran friend on Evolve Singleplayer+Plugy, so far done Ubers billions times, managed to snag some tough runes so far, hell, lately Hephasto dropped me a juicy Ber, but still, no LO so far :(
what's the resolution you played on with plugy mod? your resolution surely not default. causes I just installed 1.14d and test it the default resolution is really pixelated then I use Glide to make only look a little better. still bad in my opinion becuz we can't increased the default resolution to higher.

What? It works for me. When I move mouse left/right/top/bottom it teleports me on the same level and when I pull up the mouse - above the desk - it gets me to higher floors. It harder when you want to go to some lower floors, because you need to dig a hole in your desk to put mouse below base point.
It's crazy rare because it has to come from her normal monster drops. She has the same odds of dropping a rune as any other normal monster in her monster drops. On top of that, when a rune drops from her monster drops it then has to happen to roll above an ist. You're more likely to find a high rune killing ghosts on the way down to her than from herself
Wish anyone anywhere would make a simple chart that us casuals could check for the rune farming locations... every guide that i saw has like rune levels, something called tc, or whatever, this is so unnecessarily complicated, like hardcore d2 players are trying to look much more important and scientific than they really are... Why not just make a chart that says - rune A - farm here, here and here, Rune b - farm here, here, And so on...
Somebody would do it, if that would be possible. Alas, it's not. Some monsters drop runes more often, but they are harder to kill. And you can get rune A in some place, but monsters have a lot of HP, so some higher area would be better, unless you can't cope with the higher area or monsters have some specific resistances that won't click with your build. I agree with your point, but in this case it's mostly depended on your playstyle. If some monster have x chance to drop rune A and other have x/10 but has less HP (generally little monsters in big groups) that makes rune chance much lower, but you can kill a lot at once. If you would be more specific, I'd be glad to help you with the proper choices.

Hi! I came here for the guide after reinstalling d2 and found ist on my second run. I screamed hard.

I farmed 4 hours for 2 damn el runes for malice runeword i think it is enough for normal difficuty
For el or eld you're better off clearing areas in normal Act 2.
El is actually her lowest chance special rune drop since the last changes to rune drop chances many years ago.

Doesn't the map reset to a random setup every time you save and quit? I think you just search the Black Marsh until you find it

I'll note that the Countess is an excellent source for runes to start outfitting my 1st playthrough Sorceress.

Agreed. The most important knowledge for farming the Countess efficiently is knowing the clockwise rule.

I got ko from her in NM pretty fast. Got lucky. Now in hell it's all sol ort dol tal and ral so far on run 10

Practice. There isn't all that many maps in the tower and it doesn't take long to figure out which way to go.
I found a SUR on countess this season so I think she can drop higher than LO

I got a Sur rune from 1 of her minions. I only know that because she was still alive when I killed all her minions.

Plugy won't work with 1.14 yet.
The trick in getting that Ist rune from her is to not expect it.

I think they nerfed this, last week or so it has not dropped above Ko for me (approx 100 runs).

Option I mostly use is Arcane Sanctuary - kill specters or just the boss groups with them.
i found IST rune but not the Countess dropped.
Should have used my countess rune drop calc to show the odds of pul-ist runes on different players levels

It's crazy rare because it has to come from her normal monster drops. She has the same odds of dropping a rune as any other normal monster in her monster drops. On top of that, when a rune drops from her monster drops it then has to happen to roll above an ist. You're more likely to find a high rune killing ghosts on the way down to her than from herself
Wish anyone anywhere would make a simple chart that us casuals could check for the rune farming locations... every guide that i saw has like rune levels, something called tc, or whatever, this is so unnecessarily complicated, like hardcore d2 players are trying to look much more important and scientific than they really are...
Why not just make a chart that says - rune A - farm here, here and here,
Rune b - farm here, here,
And so on...
Somebody would do it, if that would be possible. Alas, it's not. Some monsters drop runes more often, but they are harder to kill. And you can get rune A in some place, but monsters have a lot of HP, so some higher area would be better, unless you can't cope with the higher area or monsters have some specific resistances that won't click with your build. I agree with your point, but in this case it's mostly depended on your playstyle. If some monster have x chance to drop rune A and other have x/10 but has less HP (generally little monsters in big groups) that makes rune chance much lower, but you can kill a lot at once. If you would be more specific, I'd be glad to help you with the proper choices.
