    Maybe turn Mad Max mode off to eliminate all of the ridiculous lane changes.

      @Chris Watkins yeah I think it's just predicting the faster lane in route

    • @RFjellstroem
      @RFjellstroem 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Exactly, Mad Max ONLY impacts how many "overtaking" lane changes the car tries, it doesn't impact the execution of lane changes. So it actually hinders thoughtful planned changes. If different lanes actually move at different speeds Mad Max can help you move faster, but when the traffic moves at more or less the same speed it is counterproductive.

    • @ItsaB3AR

      Yeah, I think it's definitely Mad Max mode doing these crazy lane changes.

    So you selected mad max and then complain that it drives like mad max? 😂
    Maybe you're the issue here. Select mild and it drives like a human.

    Nice to meet Bjorn yesterday. One of EVs most helpful promoters, he has answered almost everybody’s questions. Let me tell you, getting a potential energy kinetic energy lesson in the parking lot was the best part for me. I may have been smiling during a physics lesson for the first time. In true Bjorn fashion he Ended up dissing the 3 with a rain video haha 😂

    All brakeings and accelerations you mentioned are either because of a vehicle on the side while merging or because of GPS data, because you're on an overpass.
    The Tesla first brakes there to make sure it's slow enough and then uses vision to determine if it can speed up a little.

    Mad Max mode is like a fury driver.
    I think that Autopilot evaluate the blink signals. But in normal driving I never drive in the right most lane in proximity of a junction. For me this is safe.

    In Belgium, the rule is that you must always be on the most right lane possible, and it's forbidden to overtaken from the right, unless there is a traffic jam and the left lane(s) are stucked. So it's really country dependent.

    Great series of model 3 videos. This looks about the same as driving around Vancouver, Canada. Everyone drives in whatever lane they fancy and at whatever speed they feel like, ignoring speed limits and road signage indicating left lane only for passing. Seems like "mad max" navigate on autopilot drives pretty normal for north america. Picking up my model 3 next week, looks like I'll blend right in driving on autopilot, LOL.

    Actually it did an excellent job with auto pilot on Nav. It detected a car ahead of you even though you didn’t realize it was going to change lanes before you even noticed and you questioned why it decided to change lanes and go back to the right lane because it knew before you. Why would it slow down at every lane change signal? That means you would have to slow down and let everyone go, whether they decide to go or not. Not a good idea to be slowing down for every lane change signal as you may have noticed they actually didn’t know where they were going and changed their mind. It’s like Autopilot detected the car wasn’t changing lanes even though they had signal on temporarily. You first said that you would be more aggressive and then you said you’d be more defensive. If you really think about it, the auto pilot did an excellent job in the entire video. Thank you so much for making this great video showing the amazing progress of Tesla Autopilot. Also thanks for admitting when you make a mistake since you are human. Drive like a local lol 💜 it. U got it. I’m a big fan and appreciate your dedication in making all your videos. Peace out ✌️

  • @DerKatzeSonne
    @DerKatzeSonne 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    3:48 to answer your question: No, the car doesn't yet recognize turn signals and that's why it doesn't react in these kind of situations (it's in the works, though). And also doesn't recognize brake light, but it doesn't need to as they are just for humans who otherwise have a hard time to see the exact speed (and if it is braking) otherwise. Also to warn some unattentive drivers. Computers and cameras don't really need them as a help.

    In US they also have left turn exception, white word sign next to red light, that means you can turn left on red light if nobody is coming.... Very weird, i don't drive as much as some people, i've only used vehicles from Fort Myers FL to San Francisco CA and i noticed this only in one place.

    My goodness, those streets are wide as Hell and designed only for cars. I'm a confident cyclist, but these streets are dangerous. No wonder America has a driving problem.

    • @GordonChaffin
      @GordonChaffin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @youtubeShadowBan Yes, America has a car-centric land use and planning model which gave birth to the suburbs and sprawl. LA is king of that excess. 50+ years of transportation research and data show that wider roads induce people to drive faster and more recklessly while paying less attention. This is why the Interstate Highway System has unnecessary turns on all its routes: to force people to pay attention. LA is actually a great city for cyclists. Check out Phil Gaimon's channel.

      Gordon Chaffin American roads differ all around. You don’t need to be an expert to notice some roads are worse/better than others. Just 20-30 miles away from Hawthorne (start of the video), you have Newport Beach, Irvine, etc. Cities that have wider roads for both motorists and cyclists alike.

    Navigate on Autopilot will be too easy in Europe than in USA because there is one rule to overtake. In USA they are free to overtake.
    It will be funny in Europe when a car in the right most lane will pass (not overtake) a car in the center lane. This is not forbidden.

    I think, That the fact that there is no drivers instrument cluster on the Model 3 maybe a big problem for UK drivers? 1st because driver expect to see one? 2nd under UK road traffic law, a driver must maintain 100% concentration on the road ahead for safe driving. To make sure you do so, all the main use controls are set up on levers around the steering wheel so you can operate any of them without taking your hands off the wheel and the speedo and fuel etc. are in your view just below the windscreen, so you only have to quickly glance down to see the speed? Now people have replied when I said about the speed display being off to the left ( in UK models ) and down below the dash, that it not a problem to look off and down to see the speed? I think it is a big problem? If a person who has driven in a normal ICE car for some years here in the UK and has gotten used to the speed display being up on the dash area and behind the steering wheel. They are going to find it hard to get used to looking down and to the left to see the speed. And I would think the road law would say that would be as the law stands now as Illegal. As this would take your attention away from the windscreen view! now that maybe for a couple of seconds? But even 2 or 3 seconds of that would mean you not seeing that child run out or the mad car driver in front driving like a fool. And bam you hit them. Ok this EV has sensors and emergency braking! But that is not a perfect system and the law ( now ) state you are the driver so you must be focused on the road ahead for just that reason? Now the UK DVLA law on this may change to allow for this type of EV? But I don't think it will that fast. So this begs the question? will this lack of a drivers cluster stop the sale of the Model 3 at least until the UK road laws on this change?
