@@AnneSoosayCooks I am not. I normally do not blanch the cockles. I will wash and brush them thoroughly. Open the live cockles (these days with a tool), scrap away the dirt and then take out the meat with the blood into a container. That is for Char Kway Teow. Otherwise, we leave the meat in the shell and pour our spicy sauce over it. Eat with porridge.

Hmmm, you wash the flesh of the cockles and poured away the blood? You will lose all the "juice" that is associated with cockles.
