So many amazing comments of support. ❤
Thank you so much everybody for all your words of encouragement and best wishes 👍, it means so much to us. 😘
We will update as we know more. 🤞
An awesome amount of support, thank you. Though we may not reply to all the comments we have read every one and will continue to do so over the next few days. 😀👍
Sorry to hear of your diagnosis Julie. Aged 47 and a fit, regular cyclist, l too was diagnosed with bowel cancer. After an operation to remove the tumour l recovered quickly. Now 71 l still ride regularly. Your fitness will speed up your recovery. Gary.
thank you Gary. Im hoping my fitness will stand me in good stead too. Well done on beating it.😄
Thanks so much Gary, and it's encouraging to know that the enjoyment of riding bikes will help.
I can’t imagine how difficult it is to comprehend, but a massive credit to you both for even being able to discuss it on the channel. Julie I wish you all the very best.
Thank you so much Andrew. ❤
I'm 58 and have had a bowel cancer testing kit sitting in my drawer for a couple of months now...guess what I will be doing. Thank you for being so candid - live long and prosper xxx
Cheers for commenting Darrin
Thank you Darrin❤
I'm glad I've encouraged you not to put it off.🖖 Hope it all goes well for you.😊
Julie, you have a good attitude and you will recover. Probably be a difficult Summer, but you can handle this. Such difficult news. I’ve been following y’all since you started on TH-cam.
Aw thanks Perry. 👌 For your encouragement and for following along with us. 🤗 I'll do my best to kick this out of the park! 🤗🤞
God Bless Julie, My wife survived colon cancer after surgery five years past now. It has been known since the 1920s that cancer feeds on glucose. (The Warberg Effect) Many doctors are finally limiting carbs for cancer patients. It isn't a cure but it can slow progression. As always it is a much more involved topic and this is just a hint to offer an avenue for research. Please just think of this a wake up call and a reminder to live life and enjoy. Wishing you a fast and complete recovery.
Thank you for your insight. We have both been at our healthiest during periods of low carb intake, maybe we forgot this somewhere along the way.
@@WheelersAtLarge I was going to make similar comments to Opus but firstly like others I wish Julie great success with dealing with cancer and returning to full health. I'm not a medical person but like Opus have read a lot about what cancer feeds on and one of the greatest tools is fasting. Fasting will fuel your body with ketones plus it will look to consume damaged cells within the body to fuel itself and these damaged cells are often a source of cancer. You can inefficiently build up fat reserves with protein or of course more efficiently fat and don't fear complex carbs which the body is rubbish at consuming itself this will feed the bacteria for stomach health for breaking down food etc. I'm guessing try to move your body towards proteins, fats and ketones and only complex carbs. Many cyclists have a high diet of refined sugars i.e. energy drinks which are a fuel for cancer. The Mita Chondria is a weird repurposed bacteria that life uses to provide movement i.e. animate life i.e. create animals but occasionally it sort of freaks out and stops working within the rules, it is then meant to self-destruct so to speak but sometimes it just keeps growing in a random way. Most people don't like to think this way but Humans and animals are bacterial and virus colonies. The brain likes to think of itself as the animal itself but there are billions of micro lifeforms working together in this colony to make up one human being. It's a delicate and complex organism. However try to think of a natural existence and that natural existence is not 3 meals a day, it is eating a lot at one time and perhaps going without food for a long period before the next meal and these intervals are random. Cancer is mainly a modern disease.
Also maybe a Ketose focused diet will mean not quite so high energy levels so maybe a e-gravel bike would be a good option to keep riding without struggling for energy at times. Fitness can sometimes mean a sacrifice to healing. So taking life a little easier would be my recommendation to lose a little fitness for the benefit of body repair.
Lets keep you cycling into your 90s.
Me too Julie, had a number of operations and been told I'll never be cured so living with Stage3B Melanoma, but on the bright side I.m back on my bike and getting on that planee to Majorca at in 6 hours and will be on Sa Calobra on Tuesday 7th May for the first time.
Omg... That is so inspirational Chris. ❤️👍 I loved Sa calobra. 🚴🚴🚴Go enjoy! 💪😎🌞😎
Friend of mine is a triathlete and regular iron man with not an ounce of fat. In 2021 he got diagnosed with stage four cancer. Around new year he finally got thr all clear. I'm convinced, as is he, that being fit is what saved him
Malnourishment is the cause
Thank you Kevin, that's encouraging to hear 👍
Julie I’m 3.5 years out from a cancer diagnosis, didn’t think I’d make it 6 months. Be strong.❤
Omg Lorna.! ❤️👍That is amazing! 😍 Thank you for sharing 🤗👍
Hi Julie and Mike. Like all the others, I am so sad to hear the news about Julie.
I feel I owe you a great deal for your videos. I lived in Bournemouth sixty years ago and explored many of your rides. It's been great to become re acquainted with the area just by watching!
I'm a retired physician and now a fundraiser for cancer care in Alberta, Canada. Unfortunately, your story is all too common. We can do all that we can to reduce cancer risk, but it never goes to zero. No matter what! Clearly, reliving prior decisions doesn't help. What does matter is positive attitude, support at home, and trying to maintain healthy living (mainly physical fitness and nutrition) through the treatment process.
Best wishes to you both for the next steps in the journey!
Thank you Chris for the insight, this week we find out what happens next and then it's a bike ride at the weekend.
Staying positive 👍
Hi both. Sorry to hear your news Julie. With Tim having a cancer diagnoses approx 20 years ago we totally empathise with all your emotions you are all going through right now. We very much send you our thoughts and prayers through your journey. Keep strong with your positive attitude and look towards the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Take care. Gez & Tim 🚴♀️🚴♂️
Thank you so much for your encouragement. ❤️👍 It's been a bit of a roller coaster.,... My op is in 10 days time and I'm trying to stay as fit and positive as I can. 🚴🚴🚴
😘
Just wanted you to know we are pulling for you all the way Julie! Do keep active and keep your immune system at 💯! It looked like it was still a great ride and you need it to stay positive, I'm the same, a good ride always makes me feel good no matter what else is going on in life. Positive energy and love out to you both! ❤💯👏👏🏾
Thanks so much Joy, ❤️👍
I was running virtually everyday for over 20 years, attending Jive classes every week with my wife. Then out of the blue spent 3 months in hospital with bowel problems. Required major surgery with four operations. I was on life support, the full monty. My surgeon said I made through because I was so fit. What was the cause, probably working too hard with too much stress. I take it easy now! So I wish you the very best for your on coming battle. I have a feeling you will make through just fine.
Cheers for commenting and great to hear that fitness helped you through, let's be confident it does the same for Julie 👍
Can`t have been easy to say or do this , all the best to you both .

Wishing you a full recovery Julie , You are a very fit and strong brave positive lady which is a big advantage when you are fighting a health battle , I had a bad accident on my bike as you know and what aided my recovery was my fitness/ strength and all my hours spent on my bike in all weather ,my surgeon and physio said it like having money in the bank for the unexpected.i appreciate that cancer is on another level but the same principles apply , I wish you all the best and a full recovery

@@julie-wheelersatlarge Positive News for a Positively super cyclist 🚴🏻♀️ , Hang on in there Julie , You can and will beat it 💪🍀 🤞 🤞🤞🤞🤞
My Mum beat Bowel cancer and so will you. I remember her being asked if she wanted 50% dose of chemo and feel OK or 100% and feel crappy but it will see off the cancer. Mum went for the 100% and it worked. Stay positive and lean on your loved ones for support. Bollocks indeed!
Thank you ❤️ I intend to tell cancer to Do one. 💪

My thoughts are with you Julie. You have probably heard this before but keep your thoughts positive. I to was diagnosed last May with cancer , I had major surgery in August .I started very steadily again At Christmas and have built up to 80 miles a week now, it's been a slog physically and mentally.
I can relate to what Mike says I took have been a cyclist for 45 years , always maintained a healthy lifestyle , I don't drink or smoke always been careful with my diet always been the same weight since I was in my twenties. It's so bloody hard to get ones head round what Mike as stated
Thank you Mike. ❤️ Really encouraging that you're back cycling again. 🚴🏿♂️💪 I'll do my utmost to beat this. 💪🚴🏿♂️💪🚴🏿♂️

@@julie-wheelersatlarge Show it you are the boss. You’ve got this.
Hi Julie. I'm a 61 year old Cycling Instructor in Northumberland. 2017 I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Bowel Cancer in March and by April 4th I was under the knife for keyhole removal of ~9cm of small intestine (I also got a BOGOF removal of the appendix - who says the NHS isn't value for money). Its almost 7 years later after 5 years of follow up colonoscopy's, blood tests etc I am signed off and fully paid up member of the all clear club. I thought I would tell my story to you and give a few points for solidarity purposes. I definitely did go for a 40 mile MTB ride the day before surgery as a fuck you cancer statement. Your feelings about not discussing or resistance to discuss at the start of your video were identical ... but with familiarity you will get used to it. A bit like road cycling in heavy traffic your thought process WILL move from defensive to offensive - Encourage it. If things don't seem explainable for example you mention discomfort is one area and your doctors address another area - My consultant told me this little gem "The colon is more like an art than a science, it has many secondary links to other parts of the body that we don't fully understand, other areas can complain on behalf of the colon" I wish you a speedy treatment and recovery. Your fitness due to cycling can only be a massive bonus/asset to you during and after your treatment. My DM's are open should you want a little chat. I found it very comforting to discuss with someone that had gone through it both in terms of before during and after. Finally keep producing content you are still my heroes for Sa Colebra ride !!!
Aw thank you so much for both your encouragement and for the love of my Sa Calobra ride! (I still think back on this ride as one of my greatest ever rides) ❤️
I really appreciate that and am
glad to hear that you are a member of the all clear club Ian! 🤗 Well done 😘 I very likely will also go out on my bike the day before my op too...... BTW up until very recently I didn't even know where the colon was or what it did. 🤔🙄😂

Hi Julie, and Mike.
Hope the CT scan gives a good result today. Wishing you all the best Julie.
We watched last night, although I had managed a sneak preview a couple of days ago. It does not make any sense. None. However being fit, does mean that your body will cope better and recover better from things.
For instance, if I hadn’t been as fit as I was when I had my heart attack (almost 10 years ago now) I simply would not be here to tell the tale! That equally applies to the recovery from any medical intervention you may need.
Wishing you the very best and we will be thinking g of you today. Xx
Thank you so much for that Duncan ❤️ ..... 🤞 Wow... Hopefully my fitness will play a good part! 🤞😶🤞
Take care Julie, keep doing what you’re doing, one hill at a time. My best wishes to you both.

WOW, I wasn’t expecting that. I’m so sorry to hear that news. I can hear that was very difficult for you to share and I’m sure you’re a little overwhelmed at the moment. Thank you for sharing, hoping you get your questions answered and a plan for recovery sorted. I might see you on the Island Sunday as you and Mike go whizzing past!! My first time doing the Randonee.
Haha! We will be taking it easy on Sunday as it'll be the longest ride of the year for us so far. Julie usually bonks on the way back to Bournemouth but we'll try to not let that happen this year 😀👍
Stick with me Julie, I’m taking the car to Lymington and have room for a 2nd bike and passenger on the return. ;-)
Julie, sorry to hear of your diagnosis. As the saying goes '##it happens!'.
Fortunately, and unfortunately at the same time, I am surrounded by cancer. Mum (in Wallisdown) has stage 4 melanoma in her leg, and stage 2 breast cancer. Oncology services in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch have been great. Add to that, my fiancée is an oncology nurse now working in palliative care. On top of that, I had a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2012. That never kept me off the bike (although there were practicality issues sometimes when out on the bike!). A plus, if there is one, was that I lost a little weight when they decided to chop out 95% of the prostate!
So, statistics show 1 in 2 will be affected by cancer in some form. Fitness is no bar to cancer but does help you combat it. I'm sure you will, but keep riding as well as you can once they sort treatment options. And, as much as people don't tend to talk about health issues and in particular bums and willies etc., do talk to spread awareness. Oh, and Mike, get yourself PSA tested if you haven't already.
Take care, both of you.
Thank you for the encouragement.❤️I intend to tell cancer to Do one. 👍💪🤞
Sending you love and healing vibes. You’re a brave girl and we are behind you. ❤
Thank you ❤
All the very best for your future Julie, stay strong.

Hahaha…having just watched the video to the end, I’ve just answered my own question. Look forward to probably seeing you at some point on Sunday, although at the moment weather doesn’t look too good. 🌦️🤷🏼♂️🚴😎
Thank You Daryl, yes we'll be there Sunday 🚴♂️🚴♂️😀
