This is actually harder than it looks...at least until you get used to the physics. Once you do then it’s still quite challenging, yet not terribly hard (Especially once you get Air Jump!). Fun minigame map.
Aruraune’s jump physics are clearly different from Erina’s.
One thing you must figure out early if you want to get anywhere, is the fact that, when you jump, Aru will automatically move towards the direction she is facing for roughly 2-3 tiles (Depends on whenever you tap lightly or mash all the way).
There are also subtle momentum/ice physics going on when you land...
Once you get used to both of these facts, it should get a lot easier to control.
In fact I think the first section (0:05) is made to make you realize this jumping mechanic; you do NOT need to press the left key here, just tap the jump key and you will do fine. This is good design.
0:58 The borders of the map are considered walls, so you can (and HAVE to) walljump off them to progress. This took me way too long to figure out xD.
1:13 & 2:02 Well, that is pretty interesting.
Story dialogue triggers even though it has absolutely nothing to do with the map. I think you are better off just playing this on Speedrun mode to skip these cutscenes? Oh well... Not a big issue.
Great call by the maker to have the Sky Bridge area for this, especially because it’s music can calm you down for when you inevitably fall to the bottom and have to climb the entire thing again, lol.
Overall I liked this map, it was fun!
Although I kinda wish it was a bit longer; I feel like it’s basically over the moment you reach the Air Jump item. At that point you can fix any bad single jumps you may do with your 2nd jump, so it really makes the entire thing A LOT easier.
Last 2 big jumps were quite interesting to figure out.
While more "complete" custom maps with items badges boss fights plot and all the fancy stuff are appreciated (Of course!), sometimes a simple concept like this map does can work just fine, too.
Not a single bullet was shot during this entire map!

Is this supposed to be like Getting Over It, but in Rabi-Ribi? It looks interesting, what would you say the platforming is like, compared to some other platformers?

    • @flariz4824
      @flariz4824  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It is clearly supposed to be inspired by it, but I mean, it’s also supposed to also be a something a gimmicky/minigame map, It’s not supposed to be taken that seriously.
That said it was still fun to do. As for the platforming, are you talking about Rabi-Ribi itself, or the map?
For more context, this is taken from Steam’s workshop. It is a map created by a player, as in not part of the actual game/canon. The actual platforming in *this* map is... well, the physics are different, but the actual platforming follows the same rules as Rabi-Ribi. Sorry for the lackluster explanation, it’s kinda hard to explain without having played the game.
Rabi-Ribi platforming itself is an interesting case. The main character is certainly capable of doing a crapton of platforming in a lot of ways; I would actually say it is pretty complex actually; from the ordinary Walljumping, Reverse Walljumping (Basically an alternative way of walljumping that the game never really explains to you), Quick Drop, Air Dashing, Double Jump, Sliding, and more advanced techniques too hard to explain without context like Amulet Climbs and Zipping...and most of these can be combined/followed into each other.
However, the core game never really asks you to do most of these things. It’s just not really focused on that*, outside of maybe 2-3 lategame areas right before the final boss.
*On a regular playthough at least. If you are doing 0% items, or other challenges that restrict your items, you may need to actually use a few "advanced" techs a bit.
Also, while they are not *needed* , mastering all of your movement options will obviously help a ton even on a regular playthough.
That being said, there are plenty of "platformer" focused maps on the workshop, so players who are into that may want to visit the workshop for maps.
As stated before, this one in the video is cool, but it is more of a "gimmick" map so to speak.
There are more serious platformer maps out there, heck, there is even a map strictically dedicated to teaching advanced platformer tricks....
From what I have observed, there seems to be 3 main kinds of "groups" of Rabi-Ribi players:
-Platformer focused. Loves platforming maps and the many techs they can do to get around said maps are impressive.
-Speedrunner focused. Well, exactly what you would expect, rushes to the clear the game ASAP with expertise. By their nature, they kind of overlap with the other 2 types.
-Boss fight/Combat focused. Really enjoys the boss fights and wants to learn the most efficient way to do a boss fight/the surprisingly deep combat system. I am probably this type.
It’s also worth noting that the devs have a really open mind about Speedrunning and, aside from having a dedicated Speedrun option in the main menu, they have even intentionally left certain glitches speedrunners exploit in the game (It exists as an unlock, you need to beat the game once to have that option). I believe Celeste has this same mentality, right?
Anyhow, yeah. I guess the TL;DR version is: The platforming is solid, very fun, and also surprisingly complex- A lot like the combat, actually. You have many options... a TON...
Seriously, you can perfectly finish an average playthough of this game, and still not know even 50% of what Erina (Main character) can actually do.
Just know that the game itself will almost never directly ask you to do all the super advanced fancy stuff. It sure helps and is no less satisfactory though.

I had to delete the original reply and re-post the same thing again because for some reason whenever I edit this comment youtube deletes the spaces, leaving an utterly ugly wall of text without a damn space...

@@flariz4824 I saw that it was a mod. Interesting that's there so much tech in this game that could potentially be used in custom maps/mods.
Yes, Celeste has this same mentality, that game was designed around speedrunning.
I've had the same problem with editing youtube comments. There's a way around it, by pressing enter twice and then backspace it seems to work for me. For some reason I haven't been getting comment notifications lately from youtube either.

this map cannot be too large if you really think about it: exiting the game does not save your position as the one with Benny F. does, which means you cannot temporarily quit the game without losing progress. Therefore this map must be limited to be completed in a couple of hours.
Then how about setting some check point? If so, players are able to restart from the check point after falling down, and this is not "getting over" style at all.
those event dialogue after obtaining slippers and air jump are linked to the item by default. They can be removed by setting extra event killer tiles, but I'm so lazy that finally decide to create extra difficulty with them. (it is intended that you're quite likely to fall all the way down after obtaining those items.)
anyway you should try another map of mine, that is "enemy extinction".

    • @flariz4824
      @flariz4824  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Well, the penality for falling down all the way gets less and less severe the more items you collect. I saw that as a reward at least. By the time you get the Air Jump, it is incredibly easy and fast to get back up there, certainly a lot faster than at the very beginning. Maybe a compromise could be made with the Autosave at the very start saving the items. That would’t break the "getting over" style at all and would still reward the player with a feeling of progression (I don’t know if it actually does that currently since I just did this in 1 session more or less). That could in theory mean the map could be a bit larger if one wanted to expand on the idea.
But anyhow nice job making the map, it was really fun! And yes, I will try out that other map! That is my plan anyway- I will probably get around to trying all the maps in the workshop eventually.

2:27 - you know, after playing 90 hours of this game I didn't even think to try the second jump after a quick drop to build distance. I kinda feel dumb now

I'm pretty sure Sky-high bridge's music would drive me crazy if I played this map, not the platforming. To be dead honest with you, I love Rabi-Ribi's platforming, even when it's a little more on the bullshit side (Chapter 8+)

    • @flariz4824
      @flariz4824  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Haha well I dunno man, Ski-high bridge music is probably my favorite out of the regular areas. The platforming on this map has different physics but yes, I get your point. I also like it quite a lot!
I mostly have a bit of an issue with Rabi-Ribi Ravine ver2. I don’t mind the Library at all.
Though as of late I no longer mind the Ravine ver2 all that much either.

@@flariz4824 Windy ravine is horrible, esspecially the 5 minute timer, that place is stupid maze and now you want me to escape in 5 minutes when the path out has completely changed!? I had to redo that sequence 4 times... which also meant fighting the bosses. Good thing I enjoyed Lilli and Pixie's fight. Oh and I never understood how the heck you get Wind's blessing so... I need to play through that in advance for the walkthrough... Oh and the eggs... just... anything involving the eggs is officially the worst.

@@domlight7254 ...Why would you fight the bosses again? I am not really sure what you mean by that. Or what the escape sequence has to do with it?
Wind Blessing the "intended" way is during the escape sequence itself, but like other things in the game, you can get it earlier:
      th-cam.com/video/kqLVbzKfx7c/w-d-xo.html
"Slide + Bunny Strike + Air Dash + Double Jump
Sliding into a Bunny Strike is the hardest part, needs some good timing to get it to work..."
That is what I commented on the video so these are the moves.
Also this only works on high difficulties (Since the speed of the wind is determined by difficulty and lower ones just won’t do)
