    I bought this bike in 2018 because I’m a hill walker. You ride to your destination, helmet goes in the storage, jacket and trousers in the top box and off you go. This bike frees me from the tyranny of clobber. How many places do you go in summer and see bikers trapped and sweltering because they can’t leave their helmets and gear? Thanks for the review as I’m considering the new model.👍

      I think a lot of bikers place a lot of emphasis on the "ride to your destination" bit. But no shoe fits all, so I get your point.

    Nice to see a review of one of the unsung heroes of the motorbike world. A friend of mine has the DCT model and has nothing but praise for it. In a time in which we seem to want to place bikes into narrowly focused genres, its good to see a genuine all-rounder. Good work as always.

    Bought my new NC DCT back in May last year, now done 6,500 miles and this week 700 mile tour of Wales. Average MPG 73.2. Got the full luggage which is ample for a 10 day tour. The Honda high screen (with a cheap deflector) makes light of wind blast. Have 5 stage Honda heated grips which are adequate and link to a display on the dash, very useful. Usually leave in normal drive mode but resort to Sport when that bit extra is required. Rain mode works nicely also.

    I bought my first scooter (Burgman 200) this year and riding around with the CVT is an absolute joy and having a massive storage compartment is fantastic! I can definitely see myself gravitating toward a 400+cc scooter or something DCT like this NC750X in the near future.

    I love my bike, perfect for someone like me with severe arthritis issues. My helmet fits in the box easily and I don’t have to carry a rucksack for those essential items. Petrol consumption is brilliant and its so easy to move around on the road. Take one for a test ride you won’t be disappointed. My hubby rides it in manual mode just as easily in case you don’t want to ride in auto. It’s got me back on the road so it’s wonderful!

    A friend of mine bought a 2022 NC750X with DCT in December. He was excited for me to ride it. He wanted to know what I thought. It was arranged for this past weekend. I drove my 1981 Honda CB900C to his house. We paired up, rode to a place in town for a late lunch, then swapped bikes.
    He kept the NC750X in ‘sport’ mode because he hated how quickly it shifted to the highest gear in ‘standard’ mode. He put me in ‘sport’ mode and we took off.
    Bad boys that we were, we weren’t wearing helmets. He had on a ball cap. He was afraid it would blow off and at the first traffic light asked me to stow it in the frunk: the faux gas tank trunk, on his bike.
    I had to remove the ignition key, unlock the frunk, toss in the cap, then restart the bike, all before the traffic light changed.
    We drove down rural highways, through a small town or two and some subdivisions. The DCT was perfect. There was a bit of hesitation when twisting the wick to pass but nothing major. I was impressed by how well it handled downshifting. It provided great engine braking.
    We stopped to chat for a moment and he noticed his NC750X was in ‘standard’ mode. When I shut the bike off to remove the engine key, to stow his ball cap, it had reset to standard. I had been raving about how much I loved the DCT and all the while he’d thought it was in ‘sport’ mode.
    He wanted to show me how to change it to ‘sport’ mode, but I told him it wasn’t necessary. I liked it the way it was. A bit of torque and a grunty sound. I enjoyed it.

    I have the manual one one of these bought new last year. I always had two bikes in the past, one for everyday and one for weekends. I needed to drop down to just one bike and picked the NC after test riding a whole bunch of other middleweights. I originally dismissed the NC as a tarted up scooter of no interest but being persuaded onto a test drive changed my opinion. It's very comfy, easy to ride in all weathers and very practical. Economy is stunning given the bikes size at always more than 70mpg. Yes it won't set your hair on fire at the weekends but it's plenty fast enough for the real world. Heated grips and a centre stand are the only options I've needed. A bike for any day

    Hi Andy, I still enjoying your channel. Just a quick thank you for your Burgman 650 review. I've had mine a week now and what a fantastic bike. In power mode you don't care what bike pulls up next to you, and it's handling in fast corners with trail braking is immense. Your assessment has made someone very happy.

    Went to my local dealership this week. Got on the NC750 and was just blown away by how light the bike feels. It feels lighter than the CRF300L.

    I guess in my early 70s biking days, all bikes were all rounders, going to work, pleasure, bit of camping.. So I like this, obviously relative lack of power (we are spoilt now) will deter some. Great review.

    Been waiting for this review and I’m glad Honda gave you the DCT model. I’ve had two Nc’s both DCT and loved them. Did a tour of Scotland on the latter one 2019 vintage. Sublime for exploring the area but not so good on the motorway up there ( came down from a ST1300 so motorways were never going to compare well) . I hope Mrs Flyer gets a spin on the back as to be a tourer ( in my home) it’s has to be capable of performing two up ? Glad Honda tweaked the gearing to give it shorter legs on acceleration and longer legs on cruising. Loads of storage when loaded with panniers and top box, equal to much bigger sports touring bikes. Stuff it needs to be complete, centre stand taller windscreen, Tutoro chain oiler pannier top box and heated grips. USB charger in trunk and Robert is your dads brother as they say !

    Had a week on the older model out in GC a few years back. Took a while to get used to the low rev limit but an excellent machine and that storage at the front is super useful.

      I rode the NC750X in Gran Canaria last month. A comfy and solid bike. Lots of low down torque and worked a treat on the roads out there.

    I have a 2014 nc750sa, I get a a round 70 mpg the bike came with honda paners and heated grips.
    As you say the bike does everything you want. When the time comes to get another bike will get same bike

    Bought then sold my 2012 NC700X DCT (for same money) after the Scottish 767 last November. Perfect touring bike, 10-12 hour days in the saddle, never missed a beat, 70mpg. It has enough power to glide along in sport mode, drive mode in the 700 too eco-focused, you feel the engine is being stressed pulling high gears. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another 700 or 750 DCT version.

    These sell by the bucket load in Portugal and Spain, with good reason. And they last well. 100000km no problem just run in, apparently. But then it is a Honda.

    Been riding a munual version for almost 3000km. The bike isn’t perfect but it’s just OK for a range of purposes except for off road. It becomes way more enjoyable after installation of aftermarket windshield and gel pad in the seat. Some say it’s not that powerful, but I hardly ever opened the throttle by more than 50% 😊

    I still have my 2012 nc700x and I’ll not be swapping it either. Great comfy and practical bike. I love the low reviving engines and the fuel economy. Also the riding position is perfect for me.

      snap , mines a 2011 ! 85000 all year Scotland and europe touring miles later with no serious issues and still uses no oil . Barkbusters plus muffs and heated grips for up here though .

      Commuted 45k miles on NC700S 2012 in Edinburgh so far. Laptop & lunch goes in the helmet compartment. The handling and short-shifting took a bit of getting used to... I had a Ninja 250 before and that thing loved to go round corners and loved to rev. But with ABS, better mpg & storage, the NC700 wins. The engine is never stressed so it'll easily do 100k miles. I fitted a tutoro auto chain oiler (th-cam.com/video/ZawF3ULLBeQ/w-d-xo.html) so I hardly ever have to tighten or replace the chain. Electric gloves and handguards for all-winter riding.

    I like the outside the box thinking in the design with storage, relocated fuel tank, inclined engine. Nothing really new as they've been done before but combined they make for a really practical bike and it still looks like a motorbike.

    I picked up one of these in the States (NJ) in January 27th, and rode it for firs time Feb. 4th (b/c of storms and below freezing day temps). Today I hit 1,500 miles. Great all-arounder and I love it. I put Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs on it so I can do some light sand roads and this thing, even w/ DCT, is great for light off-road, sand, road, and the frunk is great. I have a top bag, side bags, and w/ the frunk, have a ton of space! I love this bike and plan on keeping it for a long long time.

    I have a 2012 NC700XA-C and in the 6 years I have had it I have never got less than 70mpg and regularly get 81 - 83mpg. And I like to make progress, not stupidly fast but now dawdling about either. Super practical as you say, you can carry a lot of stuff in the 'frunk' as the Americans call it. I have after market heated grips and handguards which definitely help to keep the digits warm and toasty. A great bike but it is built to a budget so don't expect all the bells and whistles you can find on more expensive bikes. The low centre of gravity makes turns in the road and low speed manoeuvring a dream. Haven't tried DCT but I'm told it is well worth it.

    I've had my DCT 2018 model from new and it ticks alot of boxes. I toured Europe 3 years ago, with my wife on pillion and it never missed a beat. I use my bike every day throughout the year. Although the seat needed some improvement, which has been done. I think my next bike may be another nc750x.

    I had the previous gen 750 manual. Put decent rubber on, and its a very capable real world machine. Makes a brilliant commuter, and decent tourer.

    Very interesting video, I am thinking of changing my triumph 800 and this was one I was thinking of. The DCT sounds the way to go, especially as I have mild arthritis in in my hands, so will be looking forward to your longer term review.

      Definitely worth having a test ride. I've had one a few times when the Crosstourer was in for service. Made me realise I should have bought the DCT version. And that I really don't need the extra power and weight to enjoy a bike. This or the ADV for my next motorcycle definitely.

    Like always a spot on first ride. Not really much more to say about this bike just that... really do not know why on such a machine you get 4 riding modes. Sure it is not harmful but... you know... You got my like.

    I've got a 2014 one of these I bought as a ULEZ compliant cheap run around for commuting and I like it more than i should, the biggest bonus however is the frunk or front trunk, that thing is so useful it makes me wonder why more bikes aren't designed that way, it can't hold any full face helmets that I own but it can hold open face, plus a bottle or two of wine, weekly shopping, etc etc.. and the fuel under the seat keeps the centre of gravity nice and low. I use it for commuting in London and you can throw it about like a scooter, it will sit on the motorway at 100 only purring at 4000rpm and if you're brave enough you can get your toes on the ground in corners. Downside..? A little more power would obviously be nice, but reliability and fuel consumption would probably suffer.

    Really nice bike (and your Araï is gorgeous). The tank place is unusual (especially if you have a tail bag). Discreet but efficient bike (as often with Honda). No risk. Just ride it and you're good.

    Great vid Andy... I had an NC750X as my first ‘big bike’... it was a great way to step up from the 125cc. I think you hit the nail on the head, it’s comfortable, frugal and practical. What it’s not is characterful, exciting or charming. For me it was a steppingstone.

      @@kronos_rides_about_a_bit6125 the biggest novelty about the NC when I first got it was that it would go up hills without slowing down!! (vs the 125). That novelty wore off pretty quickly!

    Hi Andy,
    my mate got him self one of these back in Jan. ( it is a second hand one, a few years old i guess) He is really loving it. He suffers from arthritis and the ease of use of the bike was a massive part of the reason for buying. He has already done many many more miles this year than last year, simply because he can ride for longer with less pain... A worth wile point of view in my opinion. Tempted with one myself, but i am holding off to see the Kymco AK550 st that has come out recently.

    I like this bike, it’s practical. Great for commuting, touring, traveling. I would consider buying this bike, especially with these petrol prices.
    It definitely needs a longer mud guard on the front. And another number plate holder.

    Good review TMF, I had a 2014 and I loved the handling and sound and the economy. The only downsides were the seat and buffeting off the front. For a "budget" bike the handling was second to none with the right tyres. And the gloves box such a bonus I miss it with my Tiger Xrx

    Great commuter and if you need it for a purpose. I test rode one last summer, the new model. Reliable, unusual, not particularly rust-proof but cheap and easy to ride. I’ll stick with a Fireblade!

    Great first ride and you hit the nail on the head there; if you only ever going to have one motorcycle this is the one to have! My subscribers already know my passion for this motorcycle! Whack a centre stand on it, some heated grips and you're good to go! It would be nice to have an outside temp display, Oh and one more note, blue is best!

      I have to echo these sentiments, and great to see the most recent incarnation of the NC750X carries on all I feel about my own 2017 version.
      Great first ride video TMF, as much as more focussed bikes for certain areas of riding are fantastic options for those who are really into track riding, or off roading, or cruising...there is so much to be said for a bike that can turn its hand to practically anything.

    Wife had a NC700 and for anyone wanting to get into touring, chuck a couple of panniers and a top box on and away you go.
    One of the easiest nd most manageable bikes for anyone wanting to do long, leisurely rides.
    Its never going to keep up with the bike bikes but makes for a lovely ride and you get to enjoy the scenery.

      @@davidwilkie6302 Its not a bike you ride for speed. It will quite easily do 110kHr two up with luggage.
      Hondas just seem to keep going. Basically, it ran like a tractor, was quite comfortable, even for my six foot frame, economical and with heated grips an all year round ride.

    I actually quite like this bike and I think is a plus for Honda - re: amazing practicality. That false tank that can be used for storage is a huge plus in my book, alas I haven't got the funds (and space!) for another bike and my Suzuki will stay where she is for now!     Decent looking, practical and with Honda reliability! a good first big bike, not keen on the no clutch bit but i am a old git so old school clutch lever is a must.

    Easy to overlook when just looking at headline figures but they are so capable. Oxford heated grips, centre stand and comfort seat makes mine a great all-rounder.

      I fitted a Shad Gel Comfort seat. It was really comfortable and I also didn't get the feeling of sliding forward into the frunk that I got with the stock seat. I bought mine from eBay.

    Hi Andy, great review as ever, comprehensive. I was testing a DCT Africa Twin, which was too tall, so they gave me the NC750x to try. I wasn't as keen on it as you are. The fueling can get messy, you have to be very careful, the tank space doesn't take all helmets, the lights weren't great, I thought the springs were soft, OK for a commute but poor on bumpy surfaces at any speed. Ended up buying a Triumph Tiger 800 which is dearer but infinitely superior. Footnote: saddle height is crucial, but in assessing it is the inseam measure that counts, not height. I'm also 5'8" but my inside leg is only 28.5" so it felt a little tall for me.

    Andy,
    The angle of that motor reminds me of the Suzuki Burgman 650 I owned.
    I was looking at NC as an addition to my garage after deciding to part with my BMW F750GS. The reasons for that decision will mostly stay with me, for now. Though I have passed on the NC I have not ruled one out as a future bike in my garage. I will probably get the DCT model since I plan to use it primarily as a town bike.
    What I chose as a replacement for my GS is a Triumph Bonneville T120. I rode one at a demo day in Chattanooga last week and watched your thoughts on it since we share similar tastes in motorcycle aesthetics. Our difference is I am more the gentleman rider. No hooligan Speed Twin for me.😉
    I like the Bonny's acceleration. The motor easily runs at maximum speed limits and it feels well planted for distance riding which will be the primary assignment. I like the cruise control. Although I am not a little guy the high seats on many motorcycles are becoming embarrassingly difficult for me to mount and dismount as I get older so the low seat is also a plus. And the look of the Bonny? Wow, it is Steve McQueen cool.🙂
    I will ride the Gold Line edition (silver/green) home next week. As soon as centerstands are in stock I will add one along with a quick mount windshield and topcase to make an intermediate touring machine of it.

    I’ve been looking at these too, second hand are even more of a bargain. I loved the Ducati V4S you reviewed, but too much money and poor MPG, for me anyway. This looks like a great all round bike, looks good, Honda reliability, and leave some change for a second bike. Great review, as always, and maybe a comparison for the CF Moto?

    Owned a 2015 DCT model and giving serious consideration to buying a new one. Consideration would be a deposit if Honda had given it cruise control and shaft drive. I suspect most of these machines are used as commuting/delivery bikes and as such a shaft final drive would be a godsend. Nonetheless it is a hugely neglected machine, yet one of those bikes that quickly (in my case) became my 'go to' bike....

    Hullo, Mr Flyer. Got my new 2022 DCT model in January and have now got 1100 miles on it. Most of the review and comments mirror my experience so far, with the exception being seemingly lower fuel mileage than most, and I'm not a throttle-jockey. Also, the gearbox on this one has never been all that smooth. I'd like to ride someone else's to compare. Finally, that saddle......ohhh, that saddle. It's clear the "team" that designed it has never even SAT a motorcycle, much less put up miles on one. I've already fitted a padded cover and am desperately searching for a cure. All that said, it does everything I expected when I bought it, especially carry huge loads with the soft (expandable) saddlebags I've added. We call him "Donkey".

    Had a 2016 manual and loved it....bit under powered two up with luggage in France trying to keep up 81 mph uphill ...just couldn't do it especially into headwinds. Did manage average 83 mpg over the 1500 mile round trip. Borrowed a dct and hated it on ice in winter as like to pull clutch in immediately I feel any slipping, but otherwise fine.
    If they ever put cruise control and a little more power I'd buy one again like a shot...

    Don’t forget to mention 2 things on the next review. 1) parking brake, and 2) the fact that the engine is under square. Basically half of a car engine, the stroke is longer than the bore for more torque. It won’t rev like a typical motorcycle, but is much more frugal. Not as exciting. (And I ride a Honda Dullsville that’s actually oversquare, but still not exciting 🙄 )

      The Revere/NTV/Dullsville where /are, still excellent everday bikes. Its a pity shaft drives are lacking these days, but most motorcycles are bought as weekend toys.

    Had a test ride a few weeks back. I quite liked the DCT though I have heard stories of woe regarding it - mainly electronics of it rather than mechanical problems. I am quite tall and found the machine a little bit cramped for my long legs but a lovely bike all the same.

      The DCT had a fuelling issue on the new model, which has now been sorted and recall for those affected.

    I rented one of the older models, at short notice, for a 2000km endurance ride when my Street Triple was temporarily out of action. I was pleasantly surprised by its handling. It also passed the 2000 km in 48 hours comfort test.
    The DCT is probably the way to go with one of these. The red line is so low that, for the first half an hour or so, I kept accidentally hitting the rev limiter.

    I've got a 2018 manual model. It's a great bike. Don't plan to upgrade to the latest version, just yet, as I don't think the advantages of the new bike justify the added expense. However, if I was in the market for a new bike, the NC750X would be right up there.
    BTW, when I brim my tank and check the MPG, it's always at least 80MPG. Have had 92MPG as a maximum on a long run on 'A' and 'B' roads without much/or any motorway, averaging about 60MPH.

    Excellent first review of a brilliant bike.
    I would only choose this over my 2018 NC750X if it had DCT (my bike does not).
    Not sure why Honda has lowered gears 1,2+3 as I don't think this was needed even if heavily loaded.
    Hopefully the seat has been improved over the original forward-sloping block of concrete.
    Pity Honda insist on putting the horn button in the wrong position.
    Hopefully the new lcd display is better than my one which is hard to see in most lighting conditions. It is a pity that makers don't make them tiltable to help with this.
    If I was given the choice of having traditional bulbs then I would always go for them. LED's are well and good until they go wrong.
    Definitely not a fan of the american-style indicators !

    Morning Andy, the engine is half a Honda Jazz car engine. I test rode one a manual one couple of years ago and found the low red line meant you had to change gear a lot. I also found that a lot of road noise came up around the forks tunnel and reflected back off the screen.

    I've done nearly 4000 miles on my NC750X now and cannot quite agree with some of your comments. The suspension is a weak point - over-sprung and under-damped - and is very harsh over poor surfaces. The seat is not so good after a few hours in the saddle but as you said, there is plenty of room to move around. I've been seeing 75 mpg easily and having started using E5 petrol am getting over 80mpg. I also feel the front brake is a bit weak for the weight of the bike. On the plus side though I find it a great all-round bike and for solo riding with luggage (I have Shad rather then the over-priced Honda kit) is great for touring. A highly-recommended bike for me with only a couple of (easily addressable) niggles as mentioned.

    Thank you Andy, another great review, I have a 17 plate and now seriously looking for something new. You do so many reviews lol, it's confusing 🤭 I was considering downgrading to a 250 Vstrom, but that stated mileage is impressive, although like no, I never get that.     I got a manual one new in 2017 and did 9 countries 18,000 miles in 12 months all over Europe returned around 70+mpg with me 2x 35 litre panniers, 2x 8 litre wet bags on the crash bars and a backpack.
    Never missed a beat only 2 bad points I found were standard tyres only lasted about 3,000 miles (soon changed for dual treadtyres) and the seat was like sitting on a kerbstone to combat that I used to take a break often.
    It really was the bike I should never have sold but I thought I was trading up to a Ducati Multistrada but missed the trunk and fuel economy (did miss the power of the Ducati though to be honest)

    If you want one bike that does everything, you purchase a Suzuki V-Strom 650.
    I find having to lift the seat to fill the tank on the NCX a chore with luggage strapped to the seat.
    You have to be careful not to splash, drip of overfill the fuel tank.
    Even though the bike is frugal, range is severely affected by the small tank capacity.

    Riding with a temperature of 5 degrees is in fact pretty cold. The feeling tem is much lower. I am also an owner of NC750X DCT (year 2020) and 54 Hp. No regrets. To compare this with a coach pulled by six horses and multiply this with 9 times. So, a motorbike with 54 horsepower.......... A horsepower is a very underestimate issue. I really don't need a bike with over 100 Hp. All I need is to take me from A to B.

    I traded a 2021 Street Twin for a used 2021 NC 750x manual…with 2k miles on her. came with Givi tacks fender extender rear hugger fork guards a trickle charge crash bats and a madstad screen
    best trade over ever made…some heated gloves wired to the battery and a heated vest with rechargeable battery and i’ve been commuting all winter in supreme comfort
    the sport mode is great the engine has no vibration and runs cold…it’s an amazing motorcycle
    you can use it in the city or take her cross country…i’ve got givi rear top box and givi hard cases…plus the under tank storage = carry just about anything

    IMHO the DCT works well with the NC due to the lovely torquey nature of the engine, in manual form I kept finding myself hitting the limiter during overtakes

    Thanks for the review I pick my new NC750X DCT on the 2nd of April so looking forward to your next video. I've owned two NC700X's in the past before moving onto a R1200GS now going back so kind of know already what to expect but never ridden the DCT version before. Also would really like to know how good the lights are at night if possible.

    Did you know that engine is actually two cylinders from the Honda jazz car. You can tell it's a car derived motor when you look at the exhaust port on the front, it's a car port. A quirky bike. I know a guy who has one and it's a pretty good bike but it's a little down on power.

    I had one of these on hire while my GS was having some work done. I achieved 80 mpg, the engine is great, with no vibrations at any revs. However, for some reason I’ve never been so cold as I was riding this bike, not sure why, I was wearing the same riding kit as I do when on either my GS or my Triumph Bonne, maybe it’s to do with the engine being so low. Honda do offer heated grips as an option, which mine was not equipped with. A side note, mine was the Matt black one and it was a pain to clean. If you look closely, a lot of the fixings and weld are not the quality you would expect from a brand like Honda.

    Great review ANDY ( as always) ! THANK YOU! I am looking forward to the follow-up! At almost 70, and ravaged from covid, my 2010 BMW GS has become a labor and not as enjoyable. On top of that, even though I can do all of the maintenance, there are no BMW dealers should I need one. ( nearest one is a days drive). I would go buy this bike today if it did not have the "make-shift 1/2 way faring", and it had cruise control. I could get by with the faring, but CC is a must these days. Arthritis and carpal tunnel in both wrists.
    Who ever said these are the golden years was wrong. They need a good slap across the head like Moe to Curley of the three stooges!!! Its more like the silver in your hair, gold in your teeth and iron in your blood ...is turning into lead in the ARSE!
    I might consider the basic African twin since it has Cruise control and DCT. I wonder if it will be a hand full though.... just like my GS? Weight? Height? What do you think? GS seat height is not an issue, but it would be nice if it were an inch or two lower. Thank you for your opinion.

      The Africa Twin is lighter on paper but feels waaay heavier to move in reality as the weight is up high - the GS is much easier to move around IMO....sorry!
