    Everyone is talking about bender in this scene but no one is talking about Brian. Did you guys notice Brian’s face when Bender was doing a reenactment of life at his place? You could tell he was a little upset or annoyed because that’s the the truth and Brian knows that but because people think that he’s a straight a student that it must mean he has a good home life.

      Beanz Burrito I have seen the movie a couple of times but I think you’re explanation was a little more better explained as to what I was trying to say lol and I didn’t get to correct myself either! I meant to say he was annoyed because the re-enactment *wasn’t true. And just because people perceive him the way they do must mean that he doesn’t have problems at all! Whether it be at school or at home. But you’re right, the point of the whole movie is that they all have hidden struggles (mainly due to personal lives) that they don’t recognize in each other because of stereotypes that have been set in place.

    You can tell Bender was so envious of everyone else having lunch but him especially Brian, that's why he picked on Brian because he's envious of him. Bender wanted the home life Brian has, Brian has two loving parents whereas Bender comes from an abusive household, of course he'd never admit that he's jealous that's why he acts out.

Ironically only watched it because I found out it was what was sampled in a song by my all time favorite band "Dystopia". From the song "Diary of a Battered Child". I heavily recommend it but it's not for everyone. It's from a genre called "Crust Punk" which is a sub genre of black metal which is heavily inspired by punk.

      @@coltonstillwell3590tbh, Brian didn’t really have it any better than Bender. Bender’s parents abused him physically, but Brian’s parents abused him mentally by forcing him to get good grades and apparently were unsympathetic to the fact that he tried to commit suicide and it’s entirely their fault.

    I find it interesting that Brian did not attempt to contradict Bender about his life, but he still looked somewhat upset meaning that Bender's impression was close to the truth but not entirely and that there was a little more to it than Bender apparently thought. Most likely the pressure that was put on Brian at home to get very good grades.

    • @papasilver78
      @papasilver78 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually, it was nowhere near the truth at all. It was all about keeping up with appearances. In reality, Brian's home life was absolute shit. So much in fact that he wanted to end his life because he wasn't "perfect enough" for his parents. No doubt they made him feel horrible for failing shop class rather than encouraging him. That's horrible parenting right there.

    This is one of many scenes revealing the ASSUMPTIONS they all have about each other - a central theme of the film. Bender assumes everything is all rosey at "big bri's house" but the earlier scene w Brian and his mother reveals otherwise. The hurt on Brian's face is a double whammy - he's made fun of for something that not only isn't true but pours salt in the wound. Then Bender gets a taste of his own medicine when Andy challenges Bender's honest portrayal of his home life. What a BRILLIANT film.

The following year reached for seconds and got the carving knife between my thumb and index finger. This happened in the 60s, both scars are still there. Not a problem, makes for a good story with humor mixed into it… overall lesson is I can spot a abused or hungry kid a mile away. I see hungry weekly and we feed them, I give extra treats for them with the rule to eat dinner first!!! It works, give the parents treats also so they don’t feel bad or left out having to go to a pantry for help. And the weekend this movie was made was my last weekend living in NYC.
