- This is from Production I.G.'s anime adaptation of "Tengoku Daimakyou (Heavenly Delusion)".
Tengoku Daimakyou / Heavenly Delusion
Within the safety of the walls, youths are raised in a nursery-style setting by robots. While life there may appear stale on the surface, the children are full of potential and curiosity. In many ways it is like a slice of heaven. The outside world is a hell-scape. It is almost entirely void of anything mechanical and is now inhabited by bizarre, yet powerful super-natural beings.
Maru, with the aid of Kiruko, is out there crisscrossing what was once Tokyo for heaven. But after searching for so long, maybe heaven is more of an untenable dream than a potential reality.

This scene was very sad on it's own but after knowing who they are, it hits HARDER than one can imagine !

At first I didn't understand how deep was their relationship, I thought it was just there to make the anime depressing, ONCE I read in manga I GOT SAAAAD OH NO MY PRECIOUS KIDS ARE DEAD

@@Kuma-gb8bk They hint at it several times in the anime. 1) At the end of this episode, Mimihime has another prophetic dream where she's surrounded by darkness until someone comes and restores the light (him giving her his eye). She's also missing a button from her jacket. 2) In the last episode, in the scene of the two of them together, she hands her button to Shiro and the same song plays in the background
@@Kuma-gb8bk I knew without reading the manga, and I think many did bc the author left so much hints, like the pin mimihemi gave to shiro, his hair color and look, her eye color, and also her having the same sickness as the kids in the facility, him saying his not a doctor but still he's smart enought to try and cure her, his dedication and love to her is the same as shiro to mimihime ... I'm sure I missed few other hints but there it is. also her vision, and the little girl who had illusion power is most certeinly the man eater that was living underground.
@@Dorimidori651 Also Usami is very skilled with mechanical devices and electronics, same skill that's established over and over for Shiro (we always see him tinkering with stuff). There's also Mimihime's first reaction to seeing the sky in last episode, she clearly developed a fondness for it and that explains her last wish. Another hint are Mimihime's illusions when she looked at Ohma's eyes, we see many images of the clinic, the bed behind curtains and the fear of needles and being cut up. In the end we understand that it's not an irrational fear, instead it was born from her clairvoyance power foreshadowing the future "black spot" disease and the many surgeries that Shiro had to perform on her to prevent the transformation. She must have suffered a lot...

this is episode was even more touching than the manga which I didn't expect. (in the manga you don't get to see the actual suicide, you only see their dead bodies afterwards)
I agree. The manga makes it seem like two random people just died in a tragedy. We don’t see the intimate moment between Shiro and Mimihime on the roof where he wipes a tear and kisses her, before shooting himself.
Also I like that they put Mimihime in the cave immediately after their deaths to show us that the two found each other in the afterlife and are together again. In the manga it happens in the next chapter, so many will miss the connection.

このアニメ全然知らないけどこの動画だけで余裕で泣けた
This series truly has one of the best character writing I've ever seen. Every character is unique and every detail stay consistent till the end. From Mimihime having aichmophobia and not knowing what "love" means to being hooked up to machines and saying "I love you". We don't need a lore dump to understand these characters. Masterfully done!

I didn't even notice who these characters where in the manga. But in the anime I finally got it. I looked up this video to confirm
I haven't watched the anime, so I dunno how they paced the scenes, but yeah, it never was obvious when we were first introduced to them in the manga. It didn't click for me until I saw their new names after 40+ chapters.
Man this is so sad, after that episode where I learnt that it is actually mimihime it was so depressing man, both of them died, who could understand that man, that last episode man really kicked hard
What is more beautiful is that the first time the children come out of takahara academy mimihime's first observance was the sky as a long ceiling and her last wish in the outside world was to see the sky again

When they escaped "heaven" she was amazed and scared by the sky and called it ceiling. Her wanting to see the sky while dying made me sob man.

Kensuke Ushio's music really elevated this entire set piece. It really made me cry. Amazing series and amazing OST.
Her eyelashes were the ting gave away for me. Never noticed her voice actor's little sighs this distinctly
(there were so many clues down the line but one of them were him kinda loving to tinker with stuff on early on before finding the photo)
This was the best episode from season 1 imo. So touching to see this doctor give everything for her out of love.
They deserved the best out of all the characters 😭😭😭

This is perhaps the only anime that was able to make me cry, especially the part where the Doctor finally cries. My Mom didn't cry when I showed her this, but she couldn't see the first part because she hated blood.

This is like the only anime that made me cry, especially when Usami cried, I lost it.
Edit: I showed this to my Mom because she heard me crying, and she couldn't even look at it because of Hoshio.
I really wished he at least lived, he would've shed so much light on things, especially the truth about "Heaven"

Man it'd be really fucking neat if youtube would stop recommending me videos that are literally just titled with a spoiler for a show I wanted to watch.
It’s just terrible. Even if you search Shiro and mimihime in Japanese, they won’t be any spoilers. But I just typed Tengoku Daimakyou in Japanese and this was the third fcking video.
What really broke me was when he looked at and kissed his "wife" for the last time before taking his own life.
My wife means the world to me, and I can't imagine living without her so this scene hit me really hard. I've never empathized so strongly with a fictional character before.
read the manga, did not know they were Shiro and Mimihime until people pointed out and this scene hit me hard after that
Mimihime was my favorite student in the past story, not knowing this was related to them at first, but after i found out , it was very sad.. 😢

Can someone tell me why Mimihime's body parts and eyes were gone? I understand that when she dies, she'll turn into a Hiruko but I wonder why it has gotten to the point that some parts of her body were gone.
I think it was to slow the disease's progress. Whenever the disease appeared on the body, it would be removed, thus the missing limbs and eyes etc. They couldn't find a way for her to die without turning into a monster.
This series is so full of twists and red herrings that I can't say for sure (nothing is confirmed, everything is just a running theory lol) but I thought it was because they were amputating the infected parts to prevent the transformation.
But the sad reality seems to be that it's inevitable, since they have a core anyway.
But also, upon writing this, I realize it's possible the transformation hurts (it was crippling to the boy with a crush on Tokio); that would be a stronger/clearer motivation to amputate, than doing so on a functioning body part that may be showing small symptoms. But it's not explicit.
I only realized who these people were after a certain part of the manga that reveals the timeline of some events, and I found out how Usami got their name. I went back to see all the signs and cried.
it was specifically explained in the anime. any parts that hgets the dark spots needs tpo be surgically removed otherwise it will continue to spread and eventually tranform them. all those parts got infected or grew cancerous (whatever those spots are) and so they had to removed

But it was a childhood love thing between two people who mostly had each other from the start and no one he wanted help would be able to prolong him from becoming a monster like he did her.

How did she became like this.
The virus infected her, but due his love towards her he tried to save her. So he cut all her limbs and whatever was infected. He gave her his eye so she can see. Saddly the infected areas still kept spreading and she was suffering way too much. In the end he finally let her go, thus her dying still a human. He kept her alive for years, he finally let her go
