Thank you Cliff, so sad. This sad story needs to be told, if only to teach others to "know" where your children are All the time, and assume nothing. I've never been a part of a search party looking for anything but I like to think I would go my own way and assume nothing while looking. Fact is, I worry about you out there when you are alone. Fear the haunted place or a ghost or two? No, it's the living we must be wary of. People should refrain from the money throwing, too many Jerks out there to be tempted.
Found it cliff, allison Krauss made a beautiful song about kids, she was a blue grass singer and one time she went to blue grass festival in blue knob and then learned about boys in Allegheny and wrote a song..

My great uncle made and hand painted the sign at the bottom of the Monument road ( near pavia) . I can remember my grandfather telling me this story.

Great video, Cliff. Thanks for sharing. When a boy in the summers of 1959 - 1961, I spent a week in a church camp at Blue Knob State Park. The camp was in an old boy scout camp. In one of those summers, the camp counselors took us on a hike to the monument. It was a fun hike but it gave us some sobering thoughts when they told us the story of the lost boys. The monument was in the open with no roof or wire enclosure. There were no toys then. In all of those years, I never forgot that walk or monument. You brought back some memories.

No, to my knowledge, my Coxes have no connection to the Bedford County Coxes of the 1850s. But it was the name of the younger son (Joseph Cox) that piqued my curiosity about this story when I first heard it many years ago. I've been to the monument that marks where they were found, and I've also been to the church yard where they're buried.
Cianna Run is the creek at the monument. It flows into Rhodes Run, which flows into Bob's Creek.
The dad was responding to the family dog barking in the words and it was indeed thought that his sons followed their dad unknowingly to the parents.
I was there about 35 years ago the children with my grandmother who was taught a poem about the Lost Children. I wish I could remember that poem.

Hi, the Bedford Inquirer Friday May 9, 1856 states the boys were found dead “yesterday”, so they were found May 8th. I didn’t really find much else, except they had a $100 reward.
In 1856 that was equivalent to about $2900.

I'm 62, have lived in this area the majority of my life and will be here the rest of my life, Lord willing. It's always interesting, sometimes humorous, listening to those not native to the area. FYI, there is a book about The Lost Children of the Alleghenies, some video's, and Alison Krauss & Union Station have a song about it. I have fished Bob's Creek (pronounced "crick" by most) since I was old enough to walk in boots and I have been to the monument more times than I can count... always an emotional experience.
This is a very sad story. Glad you told us about it. The area is absolutely beautiful.
Heartbreaking story. My husband and I were on our way back home today to Elk County after exploring the Bedford area, and found this site by accident. We had to drive several miles to find a spot to turn around and went back. There was no money in there today and only a few toys. I wished that we would've known where they were buried ~~ we would've visited them. Perhaps another day... Thanks for your videos ~~ PA is such a beautiful state and so much history!!

I don’t know anyone that could listen to it and not have tears run down their face. And that’s coming from a tuff backwoods ole mountain man…
What a sad story. How terrifying for them all. Can’t imagine what it would be like to lose a child and they lost 2 so so sad. It’s a pretty area and I’m so pleased the monument is penned in, jerks would only come and spray all over it. Thanks for checking cemetery too it was a lovely spot. No pun intended. A really sad story to hear about and back in those days they must have been so frightened to be all alone and not be able to be found till they had died. Very tragic for a family to go thru something like this and having the village blaming them for their death in order to claim money that was donated etc. Something you would never forget and they were so young too.

I am more inclined to believe he had something to do with it, maybe an accident or something while he was out hunting (dead deer). Or worse. Maybe they were taken across that high creek.

I've had lots of dreams that have come true. There's also a court case that's famous for a similar happening.
To share a few..
Several times I've dreamed that friends have visited, what they were wearing and some of what was said.
I saw myself reading a newspaper about how my dad and older brother were killed in a boating accident. I woke up minutes before they were to leave on their boat trip. They went anyway but when the weather suddenly turned and spawned a few tornadoes they returned home.
I saw 9/11 as it was happening. I was in the plane that crashed in Pa.
I saw a man fully engulfed in flames days before my older brother was fatality injured in an explosion. Sadly I didn't pay attention to that one.
I don't envy those who have this gift and see more than I do. I see some happy/benign things but I don't like the bad things I see. I'm 55 and have seen spirits for as long as I can remember. The dreams I started paying attention to in my late teens/early 20's.
I saw the London bombings before they happened and I wanted to tell someone. But I also didn't want people to think I'm crazy. Or a terrorist.

Alison Krauss/Jacob's Dream
About 1965 a woman dreamed that a nurse who disappeared on her way to work would be found on road above Sylmar Ca. She ended up getting arrested. Her daughter also had had the dream. When she got out of jail they were looking & found her a little further down the hill than you would see just looking from the road. Someone a short time later remembered seeing the nurse arguing with 2 men outside her car, apparently they hijacked her & killed her. Woman & daughter went through a lot but were glad they found he nurse's body! So Jacob's dream does happen to some.
That dream seems pretty detailed. He definitely killed those boys

Sad but interesting story. From what I have read, old growth logging hadn't begun there yet. Samuel heard his dog barking in the forest and thought it might have treed a squirrel. He got his rifle and went to see about it. Susannah thought the boys went with him and you know the rest of the story. I do believe in the spirit world but I wonder if anyone back then thought maybe Jacob had something to do with the boys' deaths being that he knew where they were.
Its possible when a person finds the channel sticker that they don't know about The Wandering Woodsman. I seriously hate to think of what them boys went through trying to survive. :(
To add that Mr. Dibert died in the Civil War in the siege of Petersburg at age 42 :(

Yes, I imagine Jacob had a difficult time to announce publicly that he had dreams. And, I imagine his wife knew about Jacob's dreams. She encouraged him to use that dream to search for the boys because it was urgent. Rest in Jesus' arms, little ones.
I would investigate that farmer who had the dream. Very suspicious if those clues were actually accurate.
Very sad story. You mentioned that the parents were suspect, I wonder if the guy who had the dream was suspect. I believe in the spirit realm, but at the same time I can't help wondering. I'm not accusing anyone, just thinking out loud.
