For the first time in seven years, Saudi Arabia and Iran have reached an agreement to re-establish diplomatic relations. But, unlike what many would expect, this time it has not been thanks to the mediation of the United States, but to the trending protagonist in the Middle East: China.
Between Iran's aspirations to weaken Uncle Sam's presence on its soil, Saudi Arabia's search for new security partners, and China's expansion around the world through a positive peacemaker image, many analysts consider The United States's dominance in the Middle East to be over, but is it really?
Does this deal really strike a blow to America's future in the Middle East? Will China be able to hold Iran and Saudi Arabia to what they agreed? Today we tell you about it.

In 2021, Iran and Saudi Arabia began a sporadic dialogue that was mediated by Iraq. Oman was also involved in facilitating diplomacy. But Tehran and Riyadh failed to reach an agreement in five rounds of talks in Iraq between April 2021 and April 2022. In late 2022, Iran accused Saudi Arabia of supporting nationwide protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini in detention. The following is the statement on the resumption of ties as well as international reactions.
China's involvement wasn't until 2023 and that was really just for the final talks. The hard work had been done by Oman and Iraq.

The problem I see here is that the root cause isn't even discussed. If a imam is executed in saudi (very possible in the future and sadly expected) or more unrest happens in iran (extremely possible and even expected) their feud can reignite. The root cause is still there, they both use force and theocracy to justify their regimes and power.

The United States is slowly decoupling itself from the Middle East. We are still only there because our allies and partners are still dependent on the oil coming from there. The irony with China trying to strengthen and secure it's influence there lately still depends on the U.S. Navy to guarantee freedom of the seas and trade for everybody there, including China. Eventually, the U.S. will give the whole region to China because the U.S. will have greatly reduced it's interests there once clean energy technology is massively successful with the U.S. and allies. Fusion energy will not be far behind either. After that happens it will be the death of the oil oligarchy.

I don't think it's parochial to say that all participants in the deal were at least partly motivated to show they could do something that pokes Uncle Sam in the eye while making a little profit while doing it. They don't see middle east as a difference maker as west is moving away from fossil fuels and towards renewables. issue is some of these countries have so much economic ties with China, they are reluctant to throw all their weight behind the USA.
Australia just caved and try to renegotiate a trade deal with China. France's Macron already said he wanted nothing to do with Taiwan issue after his visit.
Germany on the other hand, you have big Corp like Siemen and BMW rather divert their investments in China rather than the EU.
China is NOT Russia, Russia's GDP is lower than Guang Dong Province. If you look up top 25 largest Bank in the world, you will see China also have a huge influence in the finance Sector. While the US focus in the Middle East and SE Asia, China strengthen their tie with South America. Mexico is even building a NEW town for Chinese Companies and Chinese worker. Few of the S. China has a lot of bad loans/government bonds. The population is also aging.
Also it only takes a couple missiles to take out some key pumping stations for the Russian oil pipeline and it's easy to interdict oil shipments from the Middle East.
