MONZA F1 Italian Grand Prix (2023) What it’s REALLY like with General Admission tickets! 😱

  • Thinking of going to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix with 3 day General Admission entry tickets?
Want to join the Tifosi for the weekend?
You may have read bad reviews, we certainly did. Last year (2022) even saw the organisers issue public apologies to the F1 spectators.
HOWEVER we were undeterred and booked in for General Admission for 2023.
Here’s our honest review! (Spoiler: we have no complaints!)
    Our 15 point plan!
    1. FLIGHTS: We travelled from the UK via Manchester Airport (MAN) to Milan Malpensa (MXP) via RyanAir
    2. COST: For 2 people including travel, accommodation, food and tickets cost us less than £1,000 GBP each.
    3. LENGTH OF STAY: We flew out Wednesday night to make the most of Thursday when the track is open (free to everyone even without a ticket) and returned Monday morning.
    4. HOTELS: We stayed at Sheraton Hotel at the airport on the first night (£139 for a twin room inc. breakfast). Then an AirBnB in Milan for the following 4 nights (~£400 total - more below)
    5. CAR HIRE: We chose to hire a car rather than use public transport for more control. Everything is close (MXP to Milan, Milan to Monza). Our flight was delayed which meant we arrived too late for our car hire and our booking was cancelled! Without a pre-booking, Europcar was the cheapest.
    6. STAYING IN MILAN: You could camp near the site or book a hotel in Monza, however as you are so close to Milan you should make the most of it. Book an AirBnB! Track days finish around 6pm so you have the evenings for exploring. The city centre is great with the Arch of Peace, Gardens, Milan Cathedral and Castle, al fresco dining and shopping.
    7. GETTING ABOUT MILAN: If you chose your AirBnB wisely you can actually get about Milan on foot. Or the public electric scooters which are parked everywhere and cost 0.25c per minute. So fun!
    8. PARKING AT MONZA: Italian parking rules are complicated to an uneducated foreigner! For peace of mind, stick to paid car parks. There are plenty and you can book car parks near the circuit (for about $50 per day). However we chanced it. Roadsides with no paint or white paint are generally free. We managed to find a space that we used all weekend in Monza, only 1.5km from the track gate (G) and a 15 minute walk. BE AWARE of specific restrictions e.g.: street cleaning / market days. Learn enough Italian to read the signs! You do NOT want to get towed away as we nearly did on market day in Milan!
    9. TRACK ENTRY: We entered at Gate G at the south of the circuit; nearest the Fanzone. On arrival you’ll have your bags checked then you scan your ticket (on your phone or paper). Do not bring:
    1. Bottles over 500ml
    2. Power banks / battery packs for charging mobiles
    3. Glass
    4. Alcohol
    5. Boxes (we had to throw away our Pringles!)
    10. ARRIVAL TIME: Friday / Saturday wasn’t crowded, less that 10 minutes waiting. However on Sunday the crowds will amass at the gates. We arrived 6am and were at the front. By 7am the queue was massive. Get there early!
    11. GENERAL ADMISSION VIEWING AREAS: Vastly improved from 2022 apparently. Lots of mini grandstands for General Admission that are 4 seats deep and free to hop on and off. These are mainly all the way between Grande Curva and Ascari on the inside of the track. There is also tiered sitting areas on the back straight between Ascari and Parabolica. We sat here for the race in front of a screen and loved it. Ascari is best but you’ll be lucky to get a seat on race day.
    12. AMENITIES: Plenty of free water stations with relatively short queues. Same with toilets; plenty about and generally decent.
    13. FOOD: You can bring your own on site or there are lots of vendors at the track. You don’t have to use F1’s awful credit system; you can pay cash/card most places.
    14. TIFOSI: The Tifosi are the best of all F1 fans! We were welcomed by the Italians who on the whole were good natured. Even towards people in Red Bill and Mercedes gear! (We had Ferrari caps on). They cheer the Ferraris every single lap and if you can get in the crowd at the end of the race under the podium (enter from the inside at the track at a gate just north of pit exit) you will have one amazing / crazy / surreal experience.
    15. LANGUAGE: Most Italians can speak English and use this to chat to guests from other countries however it is easy to learn and pick up a few phrases which will really help you (and the locals will appreciate it). Signs and menus etc will be in Italian, so learn what you can and use your phone camera to translate any text you are unsure about!
That’s how we did it, we had no cause for complaint and the organisers did an excellent job of making it a great spectator experience including General Admission ticket holders.
There are of course other ways to do it but however you do, we hope you enjoy future events there!

nice vid and thank you for all the details in the description! I'm planning to go with friends with grandstands 23A to be able to not have to come to early and do tracks activities on saturday/sunday, I had a question about the gate to get on the track was it on the inside or outside of the circuit ? (because if its on the inside it would be good for our grand stand ahah)

It was on the inside, just north of the pits. Thats the best place to be at the end of the race, you’ll have no problem getting onto the track from there when the race ends.

Hi, I just wanted to ask how you made it to the podium in time if you sat after ascari chicane, could you give more info on that please? Also could you sit in any general admission areal or just the one you pick when buying tickets.
Thanks for your help the video was great

You need to get to the inside of the track, there is a bridge not far from where we sat, just at the north end of the fanzone. From here, get to the inside of pit exit. The gate will be opened before the podium.
With general admission you can sit in any of the general admission areas all around the track. Just not in any grandstand areas!

Hi, can I ask where you found out all of the information on how to get around the track, how you get where you did, tips for the climate and walking around, refreshments etc? We have bought our Sunday tickets only and so we will have very limited time to actually explore!

Hi! We had very little helpful information going into the race weekend, the previous race seemed to have had issues with organisation so everything we read about was unhelpful criticism. However our experience was great, the organisers turned things around for 2023 race. Unless there is rain, you should expect it to be very hot. There is plenty of free water filling stations about so bring a bottle to fill. Also plenty of food vendors at various parts of the site. Arrive 6am if you want to avoid long queues to get in, and a chance for a decent viewing place (unless you have a grandstand ticket!). Hope you enjoy!

Did you manage to access any live commentary? If so, was it only in Italian or was it possible to access English feeds (either through speakers or maybe radio/wifi connecting to an app/broadcaster)

    • @simonhawking9757
      @simonhawking9757  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

The live feed commentary was mainly in Italian. Occasion English translation. I tried BBC sport app - but it knew I was not in the right region! So it’s not so straight forward. Anyone else here got any ideas?

Hi! Sure, we were on the back straight between Ascari and Parabolica. It’s very close to the fanzone area, a great spot!
