My 03 V6 did this as well. When I was younger I slammed it and I caught onto something at nigh when I was going down a subdivision street and it yanked and put a slit in the boot, but I actually strangely miss the power steering whine on my new edge.
If you have the rack rebuilt have it done by a shop that will keep all your valving with your rack some places once your rack comes a part all your valving go in a box and you'll get just random valving and lose what makes a cobra rack a cobra rack
My farther inlaw has one ( I love the car) but he seriously told me he wouldn't drive it hard anymore because it was always breaking something. ( I was in it one time when the fuel pump went out)
Bruhhh be glad its just a rack and pinions thats only an hour job just did one on a new edge myself. Replace the bushings with poly bushings while its off
Rack is bad.. just make sure you either get a reman terminator rack (yes they are different than GT and Machs) or have yours rebuilt. While you’re in there replace the outer tie rod ends and inspect the ball joints and control arm bushings. I had the same problem last year and went all with all new OEM Ford parts except for my rack which I got rebuilt. Smooth as silk now
@@phillirofl New York.. Mustang Magic in Deer Park had a local rebuilder do it. Sooo much better.. but those Terminator racks are tough to find anymore.
The cobra has a steering rack that is unique to the Cobra. Make sure you rebuild the same one u have and not get it exchanged because you may get a GT/V6 rack and its not the same. I bilieve the cobra has its own serial number, i jist dont remember it at the moment.
Changing the rack isn’t terrible. While your in there install the MM solid rack bushings. They really help tighten up the steering feel rather than the factory rubber. Also no squeaking. LMR has the bushings for like $55. Definitely worth it.
Idk if this could be it but I would check your reservoir to see if its cracked. When my idler pulley exploded it hit it and cracked the bottom of it. It didn't start leaking till much later.
I just had to change my rack on my 2003 GT. Legit same exact thing happened. The only thing is to get a new rack. Just recommend checking your bushings as well. Use the urethane bushings to keep your ride comfy yet planted.
If you can get fluid to leak through the boots, that means the seals in the rack are leaking you should put a new rack in it. While you’re at it, might as well get a full rack with boots and inner tie rods, as well at outter tie rods
I bout a 07 mustang gt with a tune and at the time I didn’t get the tuner with the car so what do I need to do so I can tune my own car the guy I bout it off of didn’t have the tuner if you know what I need to do please lmk everyone telling me I’m screwed ty
Eric killed it with the detail. I wish I had a guy like him in my area. I've been dying to hear the Terminator with the new polished exhaust. You seem like a genuine guy on camera Derek, and something tells me you're the same way in person. I appreciate how you try and comment back to your subscribers. Some large channels like yours and even bigger ones don't comment back usually. I think sometimes a TH-camr gets so big and just forgets. I know it'd be impossible to comment everyone all the time though. Take care and stay safe buddy.
I’d just start w the lines check em see what’s up if they are leaking an not the rack just replace the lines but if it’s the rack mind as well replace it I guess it sucks Ik but hey gotta do what you gotta do
Sounds like the steering rack. The terminator rack is highly desirable so I’d lean towards having yours rebuilt as it probably only needs new seals. You should also upgrade the bushings while your doing the swap. The rack and bushings will be a couple hundred bucks plus an alignment. I elected to convert my fox with a similar issue to manual steering and the weekend job has stretched into two months as the bolt in kit wasn’t a bolt in and parts are back ordered everywhere.
I had the same problem in my '99 GT and what I found out was that the high pressure line that goes up to the booster was leaking. They have a crush washer that sometimes if moved or removed will leak and you'll have to replace the line which is not that difficult. I would check that first to see if that's where it's coming from because mine was leaking up near the booster which was dripping down the back of the engine bay. But both ends have a crush washer.
Hey Derek my power steering rack had the same problem, I guess from over time the seals in the rack tend to go bad. I would recommend getting a new steering rack from PSC power steering components. When you order the steering rack remember to ask them that it’s not for a custom build,
If by boot, you mean the inner tie rod boot, then you definitely have some internal seals that have gone bad. I wouldn’t suggest rebuilding it, I would either take this as an opportunity to upgrade unless OEM is the preferred one
That's leak is not as much of a cobra problem as much as a it is a problem with cars that basically sit around for years. Cars that barely get driven will often develop leaks that seem premature.
Happened to my 03 cobra, the rack seal is leaking, *do not* get a rebuilt cobra R spec rack (cough AGR cough) as cool and awesome as it sounds having a quicker rack ratio, I got three of them in a row and they don’t work right and just ended up getting a rebuild ZM cobra rack
Bro, your guys is really good. To bad he's that far from me, but my guy at Polish master is also a beast with the detail. Hopefully the Cobra will be an easy...sorta easy fix
I have a 2002 mustang convert mineral grey v6 but wanna do some mods too it any suggestions possibly go streight piped h pipes with quads tips and possibly the blow off valve super charger or regular supercharger type this is where I'm tryna decide what to go with I already have shorty headers on it an basic new tune plugs etc for now as it's my daily

The steering racks are actually pretty cheap tbh just couple hundred for the rack but from what I’ve read up on you can just replace the boot and do it that way if you tryna go real cheap

Dude did an amazing job!! Love this car except one thing. Why do you not have Cobra taillights?? Where are they??? This car desperately needs them.
Those are the stock taillights for the cobra. Are you talking about the Ambers in the 99-01 cobras?
Ford dont use power steering fluid....its atf

That's not really a Cobra issue, it's a Fox chassis steering rack issue.

Seals are out just replace it not too hard to do
Steering rack seals, leaks into the inner tie rod boot (Bellow Boot) needs seals or a new rack
Why would you do ceramic? That stuff is so old now if u got the money do the xpel
Yep, you need a new rack. Seals are leaking under the boot. One of our 04 Mach 1’s had to have the rack replaced twice.
Hey Derek my power steering rack had the same problem, I guess from over time the seals in the rack tend to go bad. I would recommend getting a new steering rack from PSC power steering components. When you order the steering rack remember to ask them that it’s not for a custom build,
