      Many of your designs resonate with many of us here. This one though is just hits a sweet spot. Thank YOU for bringing this game to life.

    I love your enthusiasm for this game. I have now just bought it and hope to learn and play it tomorrow.

      @ yes. I live in the UK and our FLGS in Oxford has it in stock. (We have played it now- it was great. I can see there are lots more avenues to explore).

    re: the title, i think the only games that have a chance of beating it for my tastes are star trek fleet captains (though i'm starting to think that will be a 2025 game?) or maybe res arcana duo :)

      I feel more and more like our tastes line up pretty well…if the games you have face out on your set are any indication anyway. 😁

    Loved the mechanisms and gameplay of Santa Maria and I was excited about this one but the graphic design and board layout is too busy. I’ll probably end up playing it but that is a little frustrating. 😞 For folks who don’t have this issue, you’re in for a treat.

      totally agree. cannot even get through the rules explanation thats how much the graphic design bothers me

    • @meeple
      @meeple  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Did you play Revive by chance? I happen to really love the graphic design and illustrations quite a bit in both Revive and this. It's definitely subjective it seems. 😄

      Wow! To each their own I suppose, but I personally really like the way this looks.

    Seems like the 'Feast for Odin' for the current generation 😊

    • @meeple
      @meeple  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It doesn't give me Feast vibes, but I guess it's in the same region. 😁 This is a far more medium weight game, and really solidly built around the dice drafting, so it's definitely the Santa Maria for a new generation.

    Between this, Galileo Galilei and Resafa, which one would you pick, if you only can buy one? Which euro impressed you the most? Purely from a mechanic standpoint, since I'm ok with all the themes.
    (Dice placement fan here, too! :D)

    • @meeple
      @meeple  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We enjoyed all of them, but if I HAD to pick, right now, I think Saltfjord edges out the other big Essen releases for me personally. -David

      @meeple  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mechanically, yes - it very much will push a lot of the same buttons for players. I do enjoy what you you're doing in this one more though. It's so fun thematically (and mechanically) to venture out into the Fjord to gather fish (and gold). 😄

      Truthfully, I keep buying Cole's games due to hype but I never enjoy them or keep them. I am officially done with Wehrle designs. Arcs had some serious buzz leading up to its release, but I like hearing Saltfjord is in the running for GOTY.

    • @mrp4242
      @mrp4242 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Why would you hope a game you HAVEN’T played gets MORE attention than another game? Seems like a strange desire.
      The two games share only one similarity: their release year. And even that is debatable since this game is a reimplentation of 2017’s Santa Maria (great game) and may not be widely available for players until 2025. Otherwise they are nothing alike. I suppose if you hate Arcs and Werhle designs so much, that you’re just cheering for it to not win any ‘year awards’, then you do you. Certainly your prerogative to bag on the game as you see fit.
      I own Arcs. Not for everyone, but I think it’s a great design with some unique ideas. I’ve had a lot of fun with it, and I see why it has gotten a lot of buzz.

    Santa Maria was already great. It didn't get much recognition. This game might flop because of this, too, no?
    I still adore Santa Maria. :)

    • @meeple
      @meeple  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Santa Maria is really good. I actually got it out to look through and refresh before we recorded this video. I do think that it was mostly going up even more abstract tracks than this one though, so the immersion in the theme with Saltfjord is a win for me. I know "theme" in a euro is a generous term, but I do think this one edges out Santa Maria in that respect.

      @meeple i believe it does. I am not sure if I am willing to dump SM for SF. I was merely wondering what the reason was that SM was so underrated. It was on many hotlists and yet did not really succeed. As it shares much with SF I am wondering if it does enough different to be successful instead of sharing the fate of SM.

    Game of the year, which year? The vast majority of people won't be able to play until April 2025.
    Which seems like a complete misjudgement of production requirements 😁

    • @meeple
      @meeple  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We always consider games that we've had a chance to play, AND have seen release somewhere in the world. If we narrowed it to just US releases, we would miss highlighting many games for people so they can be more informed when they do ultimately release here. At least that's our approach. 😁

      @meeple  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow! Well you're not the first person to say something like this. I for one love what Aporta has been doing with their art/illustrations/graphic design. This board and Revive's have very similar execution, and I really like their choices in that respect. I appreciate your different perspective though. Thanks for sharing.

      Some found the theme of colonization problematic. While it didn't bother me personally, I still recognize and understand that others might not have liked the theme involving colonization. Perhaps you should consider that having empathy isn't "weak minded", and maybe more of a positive quality.

    • @robertheagy925
      @robertheagy925 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@meeple well i have never had empathy for people that didn't experience the thing they are upset about, so not really a positive quality, more of a passive quality in this example. But if empathy is the cause of that wonderful game never getting a reprint, I guess thanks for ruining a good game. but why stop at just this one, lets allow our effeminate men to end all war games as people had real trauma fighting in wars. dump all car games, as getting into car crash is nerve racking, who knows, someone may have had a rough year growing wine so...goodbye viticulture.
