I'm getting comments asking if the 180 Hobie drive fits the Makanas or the shearwaters with third party adapter needed, here is your answer th-cam.com/video/bJNWG_bE4HU/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for all your videos Aliex - great information and sense of humor. Is the cockpit the same size in the Makana 100 and Shearwater 125? Curious if the distance from seat to pedals is less in the Makana since it's 2 feet shorter overall. I'm 6'3" and hoping I'll fit in the Makana with propeller drive, what do you think?
Makana is a great kayak. I got one and like you recommend got a Hobie 180 later. It's easy and convenient to transport and makes getting in the water effortless.
Hello Aliex, so u r going up against Hollywood - can’t wait to see the video, is the no reverse on the makana drive a deal killer - reverse is needed in moving water, but on a calm lake probably ok🎣👍
Hey, just wondering what is your go to kayak ? Thinking of purchasing one maybe next season but im really indecisive, im 6ft 210lbs, would like a pedal drive with easy pimping but easy to paddle. Got my eye on the shearwater or old town pdl 120 cant really make an idea Great videos watching from New Brunswick
my go to kayak is the old town autopilot, for pedal drive well depends on what is your budget? under 2k well either of these two with the hobie drive over that?? umm 120 pdl would do just fine wanna spend more?? titanX 12,5 it is hard to beat
Awesome im a bit minimalist on my gear, for my size would the sportsman 106 be ok ? Mainly going to fish lakes maybe a little river or creeks here and there @AliexFolgueira
I agree. Wish they would sell the Makana with no drive and I could grab a 180 to power. No reverse is a deal killer. And I am an older cat with bad knees. Lol. All ready have a tricked out AP120 trailerable. Maybe they will come around. Or find a used Makana, Lol. Thanks for all your hardwork and reviews bro!👍🏻👏
100% agreed they should do a makana with no drive opinions so gmyou can power it how you like. Ap still my favorite have been for 3 plus years I wonder if the pwr129 will beat it
I was thinking of getting the Makana, swapping out the rudder from the Shearwater and putting a Bixpy on it, but I would want foot control steering, too. Do you know if that is easily done?

Hobie drive fits without any modifications needed?
@pintofmiller yup just drops right in same as the original. And it's so much smother and faster. And did I mention it has reverse

So makana fits the Hobie drive with not modifications needed?
Thank you for this video!

Great video dude! Does the Hobie 180 fit in the Vibe pedal pod or would someone need the pod from Yak Gadgets?
Thanks it fits just fine th-cam.com/video/bJNWG_bE4HU/w-d-xo.html

@CastScratchFever holds over 400# so you will be fine, not as fast as 120 though

I did it was easy, remove the rudder add the bixpy rudder or you can diy the rudder too th-cam.com/video/W8IQ5gp1HYc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4ylQY4I1DoV-K754
What about adding foot control steering?
@@jaycle71 th shearwater has it, I can add it to makana
Can I take the makana on the ocean?
On a calm day with a bixpy in the rudder sure
I think the shearwater is set better for fishing.
The rudders are to skinny.
