In a perfect world this guy would still be alive and would've had the chance to play John Shaft. He would be amazing in that role. Video just made my day. Thank you.
Shortly before his death, the Mortal Kombat movie producers were talking to invite him to play the Jax character! So sad he died without being able to make it! Would be the best thing outta that movie! Thank you Steve for being a incredible actor and a even more terrific fighter! RIP!
As much fun as many of his movies are, Steve James deserved a better career. He was like the Michael Jai White of the 80s; generally better in every aspect than the actual lead of any movie that he was in. Great work giving an underappreciated actor such a tribute!
I was a bit of a fan of Steve James back in the 80’s. I’ve just watched American Ninja 1&2 today and I appreciate the talent this gent had while watching him. He was a gentle giant that was an epitome of a good guy. He was taken way too soon. Thank you for making this tribute video, I enjoyed it very much.
If he was still alive he would’ve been an awesome choice for Hale Cesar in the expendables series. Great actor, martial artist, and stunt man. My favorite thing about him which is why I often think of him like Terry Crews is whenever he makes his fans laugh in movies and I really value that a lot
The only time he disappointed was Hero and the Terror. You knew he'd be attacked when he put his gun down to exercise, but knowing who he was I expected him to put up a good fight (like Williams in Enter the Dragon) to show how much punishment the Terror could take. Then he went down like a chump.
I don't know if it's due to their foreign heritage and what they thought American audiences wanted, but the folks at Cannon really dropped the ball by not having Steve James take the leading parts in those movies. He always played second-fiddle to the charisma vacuums of the likes of Michael Doody-koff and Chuck Norris. Dude had the onscreen presence for a lead, certainly had the physique, and for a guy that didn't do martial arts (as far as I know), he held his own as an action movie actor just fine regarding choreography and stunt-work.
One of Steve James last works 1993 was a short fight scene with Jeffrey Meek in RAVEN, here is this very rare fightscene: th-cam.com/video/mRRBVnReX3A/w-d-xo.html

Henry Broke, I totally agree and he would be badass as Shaft. Thanks for watching.

I always loved Steve James’ character and charisma! He was just pure awesomeness! RIP my friend 💙

Seriously, regarding onscreen charisma, Chuck Norris and Micheal Dudikoff are wet mops. Steve James "wipes the floor" with them, lol.
He died too young... Great sportsman and martial artist! I hope that the cure of pancreatic cancer will be found as soon as possible.

The man is a legend gone but not forgotten, rest in peace brother.
A kick-ass B-movie action star that was taken to soon
Rip from Steve James. A feel Nice man.
Judging from Reb Brown to Michael Dudikoff I knew there had to be a Steve James tribute in the works. Amazing tribute to an actor gone way to early!
vnv125, thank you. I agree, he was a great guy with amazing screen presence and martial arts skills. R.I.P.

Awesome man
Jax from MK is based on Steve James. Such a great and carismatic actor.
Thank you, I didn’t know that.
He was to play Jax on MK I shouldn't he die!

God that movie is terrible, but I gotta admit, I love the ballad that plays during the end credits lol.
Legend, even to a little blonde kid way back in the 80’s

I agree 100%. He had it all to be a huge star for Cannon. Well, at least he got bigger roles in Riverbend and Street Hunter.
Rambo's long lost black brother.
So true 😆❤
Ram Bro.
