Two of the rivers were the Euphrates and Tigris. They wept when they remembered Zion. They couldn’t sing their songs in such a strange land. “Required of us a song” implies their captors wanted them to sing their songs they would sing in Israel, songs of praise to God but they could not. Babylon in the bible represents sin and rebellion.
I am 49y/o but I grew up in these types/elements of music especially Boney M's reggae, disco, and funk music celebrating the Caribbean and black musical influence around the world. Boney M in fact bridged the cultural gaps and represented all the black artists in those years in a predominantly white industry. This is the reason why I love Boney M and the legacy they have brought! Kudos to @Frank Farian, a German record producer who formed the group.

@@DifferentSaturner A short answer is this. Psalm 137 in the bible. After the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem, the Israelites were taken into captivity in exile. Two of the rivers were the Euphrates and Tigris. They wept when they remembered Zion. They couldn’t sing their songs in such a strange land. “Required of us a song” implies their captors wanted them to sing their songs they would sing in Israel, songs of praise to God but they could not. Babylon in the bible represents sin and rebellion.
I am 49y/o but I grew up in these types/elements of music especially Boney M's reggae, disco, and funk music celebrating the Caribbean and black musical influence around the world. Boney M in fact bridged the cultural gaps and represented all the black artists in those years in a predominantly white industry.
This is the reason why I love Boney M and the legacy they have brought!
