I am in emotional awe right now, it's already been 4 years since Monty's passing and 5 years since this came out. Volume 2 is where I started and 5 years later where I've already joined the military and had to leave my days of eating cereal in the morning and enjoying RWBY behind, living simply and happily. Resonating with these lyrics is something I haven't experienced quite as much until now. Incredible.

This is song is ironically RT's swansong, the lyrics say it all.
Not only was this opening better than the first, but the entire volume was too. It was really well done. The first volume had me cringing at points (even though I still loved it) and I saw some things that kind of gave it away as a first work, but they seriously stepped it up this time. I'm glad to see that a lot of people have enjoyed it. To be honest, I half expected people to complain as usual.

thatonestupidguy Yeah! I thought I was the only one who feels this way! I do adore the new animation and the use of Maya in Volume 4. Fighting scenes are great too but they just don't have the charm, speed or "oomph" that Monty Oum's fight scenes had.
Volume 3 was the worst of it. Vol 4 fights haven't been bad so far. It's hard to describe what makes the vol 4 fights not as good as monty's. Idk, it just seems to lack the impact/power monty's fights had if that makes sense.
When Monty was in charge he went through and mapped out every inch of the choreography so it felt a lot more real and hard hitting. Now the fights are made just like Anime fights. A lot of cuts and pans to save budget on more superficial details. I think the fights in 3 were still decent, especially Torchwick and Ruby's, I only just noticed the big differentiation after the Tyrion fight

ChickenLogo correction. 10 chapters, not episodes. There are 16 episodes in volume 1 equaling 10 full chapters. 16e=10ch=Vol1. Volume 2 is probably 12 episodes with 12 chapters with the episodes being a chapter long

I first started with RWBY Volume 2, cause a friend told me about this show. And I happened to stumble upon Volume 2 DVD and Blu-Ray copie at an Anime store one day. So I decided to give it a try. What started getting me into RWBY was the music, characters. And fight scenes. Espically the food fight in Season 2. Ever since than I been a fan years later. And to this day Volume 2's opening is still a banger to listen to.

Dewayne Thomas It's a show. Though it would rock as an open world brawler with RPG elements. Especially if it had the right weapon combo system...something like Borderland's where weapon size governs its stats and options as far as the ability to combine weapons in the same way that borderlands can apply a random assortment of combinations based on weapon class and the like.

Oh, Chrom's still in, I'm sure of it. They wouldn't have Ferox Arena and a Tiki trophy but not Chrom or Lucina, especially considering the game's success. At the same time, Lucina is perfect for a Marth palette swap... the fighting style would be identical to Marth (lightweight, acrobatic swordfighter) and having her as an alternate swap for Marth would be a perfect solution. But long story short, it'll be Chrom as a challenger and Lucina as something else. Also, to top it off, there's going to be a larger roster. They already added more pokemon and broke up Shiek/Zelda and Samus/Zero... this means there's going to be more representation from each universe.
Basically, Chrom's all but confirmed. Calling it.

Julius Segubre The fact that Vol. 3's theme was dark wasn't the main issue for me. It's just the overall rhythm and pacing of it. It all felt off to me. The vocals, the tune, everything. I just really didn't care for it.
The first two were catchy and easy to sing to. The third just sounded all over the place, to me.

It is really crazy going down memory lane as this was so pivotal during my teen years. RIP Monty. He really had a vision for animation and if he would see the tools we had today, he would go absolutely nuts. He was a creative purely and sadly the tools weren't refined as they are now, he'd be an industry titan. It's so utterly sad to see him go so early and I lament his death so much even into my 20's.
Am I the only person in the universe who thought volume one was amazing!? I'm not an anime fan but I loved it, despite the sometimes-not-so-great-graphics-and-storyline. I thought it was balanced with some epic fight scenes and character likeability. I also happen to think the music is great and the animation as a whole isn't bad-- it's just its own style. I can't wait for season two! I'll be seeing it first at RTX!
Well first i'd like to say, Obviously you aren't :P. If you were the only one, unless you were personally backing them with your funds i don't think a volume 2 would have been made. As for everything else, i enjoy your optimistic approach on it. It's still in the status of "indie" made in my mind. but That is what makes it awesome. I enjoyed the entire volume one and will most likely enjoy volume two haha =D And i hope you enjoy the premiere you're lucky for that one :P
Honestly, I liked the series but what really sold it was the soundtrack and fighting animations. Thought the story was a bit eh to be honest. But we'll have to wait and see what they deliver this time around.

HiIeric117 volume 1, I think, was meant to be merely an introduction. I think volume 2 will be much better in the story department, or at least I hope so!
They need to fix a lot of things this season.
1. Characters: The character designs are nice but the characters them self's are boring.
2. Comedy: Feels too forced.
3. Story: That bully ark was weak.
The action it self is gold and is the only reason to watch it.

All writing in the series is weak, and that's not something they can blame on the budget.
The music is also on point. But yeah the writing definitely could have been better last season.
Here is the thing. It's been explained many times before and I'll be happy to do it again. It was volume 1. As people starting out with something that is a completely new idea, and with it being as small of a team as the RWBY team, AND having to do RVB as well and RWBY, they have a LOT of stuff to work on. Plus with it being the first volume of the first season, characters have to get established, introduced, and their storylines have to be thought out as to please everyone. And it's not your typical anime either, each episode running about 5 minutes long on average. So you really have to take into account the multiple aspects of how RWBY is made and how the show is doing.
Just a small thought.

First 25 seconds alone makes this the best opening from the visual, the lyrics and the background music building up WITH the lyrics.
Monty Oum is so awesome for bringing us something so good and Rooster Teeth is awesome for keeping it going. We should all be so lucky as to be able to touch so many people with something we create. R.I.P. Monty Oum.

I have to be honest I've been a fan a fan of Rooster Teeth since Red Vs Blue episode one but when it came to RWBY I was skeptical and I didn't watch it as it aired, the other night I was bored so I decide I'll watch episode 1 see how it is, needles to say I binge watched the rest of the season and cant wait for season 2.

Even by today's OP standards, this one is both energetic and subtle. Even though they'd worked in a sizable amount of Monty's trademark choreography as well as some generally cool faction conflicts, it's delicately balanced by generous amounts of symbolism and foreshadowing.
First with Ruby floating above the cogs that are above Ozpin. As both of these only make an appearance in the same time period as Ozpin getting killed and Pyrrha getting killed, this is a nod towards Ruby's consequent activation of her eyes at the top of Beacon's tower. Second with cogs around Ozpin that, while possibly just hinting at the aforementioned events, could also be in reference to his semblance. Next, Pyrrha fading away came not just from the formulaic character quality that is being split between reputation and actual personality, but also her eventual Vol. 3 inner conflict with the possibility of being replaced by another maiden as well as the fact that she dies altogether. Jaune pulling her back to reality is fitting because his ability to see her for her is the crux of their one-sided romance and ironic because her letting him make the call for her leads to her death. Cinder burning on one side entirely foreshadows the injuries she receives from Ruby's silver eyes as well as the fact that she eventually gets consumed by her revenge as her only defining motivator(Watts called this out in Vol. 5) afterwards. This is supported by how Ruby is the one that not only leads the team that cuts into the next scene, but cuts from the same direction that Cinder's dress and eye glow are being pulled. It could also reference the cliche that she's been working towards her goal to causing the fall of Beacon that any and all attachments and personality traits that don't directly benefit the mission in some way is gone, which I'd argue is simply poor character writing on RT's part without any explanatory context/history, but I digress. I could get into the way the color palette fits in with the theme, but then I'd be here all day, so I'm ending it here.
Tl;dr, this is one of my favorite anime openings of all time.

Doubt it would be Cinder. My theory is that Ozpin knew Ruby's mother, as he's taken a rather keen interest in her progress at Beacon. The fact he was like, "Ruby Rose. You have... silver eyes," leads me to believe he was recognising Summer Rose's eyes in Ruby.

Just noticed in the first opening Pyrrha touches Jaunes shoulder, but in this one he touches her shoulder.
Holy crap! Seeing this in good quality has really gotten me hyped up and ready for the premiere in July! It looks so much more intense than Volume 1, and I can't wait to see all the 1 on 1 combat we were promised, especially the Blake vs Torchwick rematch and Ruby vs Cinder this opening promises. And finally seeing Yang in some full on action is going to be amazing, as well.
RWBY series would probably x100 better if only monty was still alive.

I'm surprised no-one has pointed out the fight between JNPR and CRDL. Assuming, as many already have, that Beacon is destroyed, I think team CRDL could well join with Cinder and Torchwick, and become more than casual antagonists.
I also quite like the not-so-holy Ozpin (but maybe not quite evil) theory, and maybe Cinder Fall killed Summer Rose (Ruby's mum).
I doubt CRDL will become antagonists. Roman and Cinder are smart enough to know they would just be a pain in the ass. Though maybe they'll pretend to let CRDL join them so they can distract team JNPR and/or RWBY and then left for dead.
CRDL could also end up becoming part of the good guys, or at least Cardin, since the other 3 guys ran away and didn't received the aesop. If they become good guys, then I'm sure they'll be the butt monkeys.

After all these years, this is still probably my favorite RWBY OP, and the song in particular is absolutely phenomenal.
Does anyone feel like RWBY kind of has that Naruto feel to it... not character wise, but plot wise. Starts off by pairing an unlikely amount of people together, then leads to an epic battle by the team to show how well they work together, there's some dispute between 2 of the main characters, then soon later the teams enter into a battle-royale tournament (Chuunin Exam) that involves teams from other lands... that's all that I can say so far, but it's pretty coincidental though, right?
Generalize that much and you'll have every show ever.
