I don’t think it’s a very popular opinion, but the modern day story is a big part of what initially got me invested in the series. There are hundreds of games where I can be an assassin, but being in a order of assassins that have machines capable of viewing their ancestors memories and dealing with the affects of an ancient civilization that were the foundation of all the religions of the world is pretty unique. Now that they announced the modern day stuff will be removed from games entirely it really kills most of the little interest I still had.

Fun fact there's a big marketing push from Ubisoft to sell the entire series right now, these channels are 100% being asked to make content about it. Cheers, we're all being sold to all the time and always! Edit: I love Xplays content, ever since the old days. But it's a necessary question to always ask WHY the content exists in the first place, and it's something I don't see as often as I wish nowadays
For sure, I’m seeing a bunch of tiktoks and shorts for it. Never played it, never interacted with AC pages or videos and I’m still getting them. Weird 👀
Honestly, despite actively avoiding ubisoft for the last decade-ish (aliens killed the assassins creed series for me at the time) if they did release an assassins creed collection (especially if they gave some of the older games a face lift) I would probably buy it..
They are surprisingly really set up to now do an AC in 10th century Ukraine (the Kievan-Rus, technically). While Kyiv was already a city along the river cutting through Ukraine, it wasn't until the Vikings sailed down to it that it really took off. The Vikings also happened to keep sailing all the way to Constantinople, which is the city that Prince Yaroslav in the 10th century wanted for Kyiv to be like, and was really built up into a beautiful big city
I’m playing Odyssey right now off of Game Pass and I’m having a lot of fun not gonna lie. Definitely the most fun I’ve had playing an Assassin’s Creed game since Black Flag. Great characters and great stories to be found in Odyssey!
I'm actually pleasantly surprised this covered the portable games. I feel like I'm the only person that regularly thinks about AC Bloodlines which I always thought was a good example of why the franchise would have never really worked on the PS2.
Assassins Creed was born on the edge of what we thought was greatness. The first game was a symbol of freedom and adventure, and what was to come in gamings future. 15 years later and we’ve barely come much further from where we started in terms of mechanics. Graphics have improved a bit sure, but we’ve been spinning the wheels for quite a while in terms of innovation because while games are getting more expensive to create, the corporate fat cats refuse to fund anything that isn’t pretty much guaranteed to sell. It’s not that they even play games to begin with, they’re just looking at spreadsheets and making decisions based on numbers. If we don’t put people in the hot seat with actual valid points on what gaming needs, I can foresee another great video game crash.
Don’t forget the Clash “London Calling” remix trailer! That was probably Syndicate’s best accomplishment. I didn’t play the game, but I remember wanting to play it, because of that trailer. I may play it one day…??? 🤷🏻♂️
Lots of stuff gets reported to the algorithm, which applies a second level of scrutiny to the reported comment. Also, individuals can get shadowbanned. On top of that, Comcast owns the show, so I'm sure there is a sweetheart deal with TH-cam to dismiss any dissent.
I now know why people don’t like the present day storyline of AC games. It’s not just that it’s basic parkour/walking simulator. It’s also too hard for feeble minds to accept that the majority of their experience is a side story in a much larger tale. Let alone keep track of two separate plots Seriously, it’s fine once there’s no story and you get to just wobble around and read things? Umm no. In that case, you leave me in the animus Present day is the part that ties all the different games together and people just disregard it because of how boring the gameplay is. In my opinion the present storyline makes the entire franchise(the games that utilize that part anyway) much more interesting
I enjoy every game in this series. I still own and play the main series titles and revisiting the Ezio Trilogy now. I loved playing all the games. Unity for me was disappointing since I never got to play it with other players mostly since I didn't play it when it released. I felt the game was fixed well enough to be fun but that experience in the co-op missions was not there for me. With Origins and Odyssey, the story was interesting. I liked seeing the origins of the Assassin Brotherhood and exploring ancient Greece. The biggest issue I find with these was how the RPG elements were introduced poorly to feed into the grinding of materials/MTX for materials to be on par with your enemies in the game. This was fixed in my opinion in Valhalla where the gear didn't really play much in to your power but the skill tree did. the fact you could remove skills and lower your power or swap things out easy made it better then the previous two, however Evior was not a true Assassin, choosing to work with them. As for the modern story many seem to dog on, I rather enjoyed it. I get everyone just wants to stay in the animus doing the places of the past and those are definitely the heart of the game and beautifully done. I do like the modern story and think it's used to tie the games together sort of but recently I'm not sure where it's going. With Layla and Desmond basically Essences in some thing trying to figure out how to permanently stop the reoccurring crisis. I'm certainly looking forward to the new titles in the series and will play them even if I don't really like the direction they are going to give it a chance and see what Ubisoft has in store for us. One tidbit I thought was interesting while playing Assassin's Creed 2 again. Darius is a stature there with the hidden blade and they included his story in Odyssey as DLC. I think we have bumped into the others but we did not actually see the one for Egypt when we played Origins since the hidden Ones supported Cleopatra if I recall correctly. just thought it was interesting to note.
In my opinion, the point where Assassins Creed went wrong was with Brotherhood. That’s when they started to milk out the franchise with half baked expansions instead of moving the franchise foward with full fledged sequels. I know that’s not a popular opinion, but trust me if you were around when the first two AC games came out, you’ll understand how magical they felt. It started to fall off once they started copying and pasting games
Hopefully their plan to make multiple games catered to different player's preferences of playstyle/genre will work out well. It is Ubisoft but I choose to be cautiously optimistic.
II is a little janky by today's standards, but it remains my favorite in the series. The glyphs were weirdly captivating and made me appreciate history (or in this case, fictional history) in video games.
Same here lol. The fictional history made me want to read up on actual history and kind of cross examine them, which I had a really fun time doing when I was younger. So much so, in fact, that I still do it with the newer games in the series when I have time. The discovery modes in the newer titles are some of the best things about them. It is not an exaggeration to say this series sparked my interest in actual history.
The best part of the games from start to Assassin Creed 3, was the modern day story. The moment they strayed away from that and listened to people that wanted them to solely focus on being in the animus alone, ended any interest for players that were invested with that. Syndicate was the last good game for me. Origins, broke me. I haven't played a game since and I probably will never will since Ubisoft is scum and I will never support them again until the entire leadership is gutted from the company.
I was fortunately able to transition my enjoyment to the most recent games. Origins was fun although it became repetitive, while Odyssey was amazingly good. With that said, though, they are much more open-world RPGs than stealth, very different from the games Syndicate and before (so I can certainly understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea), although stealth is still a big part of gameplay for those who want it to be.
I played AC, AC2, AC Brotherhood, and AC Revelations back to back to back to back and I was already burnt out, and I'm nowhere close to halfway finishing them at this point. I might try jump back on again but I'm not hearing great things about them.
It’s the best AC hands down. The stealth feels amazing. The raw combat feels amazing. The ranged combat feels good. It’s just an all around good game. But too many hardcore AC fans will never give it the time of day because they’re stuck in 2007
Hey I like the modern story :) I like how there was the ones that came Before. How it lend to a lot of stuff. And also how crazy Templar become powerful in present time.
Still hoping they remaster the first game. Prettt much every game is playable on the PS4/PS5 except that one. Would be nice to finally be able to add the first game to my platinum trophy collection.
I played unity for the first time a couple years back after the patches at the cost of $2. So my perspective is different. However, I would say gameplay wise it managed to keep and Improve on core gameplay elements from the earlier AC games and really nailed the time and context for France. Just didn't connect with the overall story as much and missed Desmond's story still.
I am personally very excited for Mirage. More excited than I have been for an AC game for a long time. I loved the original AC more than most, Brotherhood was my favorite until Black Flag came out, which is still my favorite to this day. I like the change to more of an action rpg on paper but in practice I just haven't enjoyed the last 3 games since the change. It might also have a lot to do with the obscene microtransactions baked into the interface of the pause menu but they just haven't held my attention. I want to find a middle ground. Something in between new and old styles. With a return to the older themes of the assassin order. Mirage looks like it might be that. Time will tell though, Ubisoft has never held back from crushing my dreams before.
I've been sucked in the AC world and lore since the first game. Even though some stories and ways about telling things are incredibly dumb, it's all still very entertaining.
Great video! I used to be obsessed with the Assassin's Creed series (even liked the modern day elements). Scratched my action, history, and mystery/intrigue itches. My interest did start waning after AC3, with Connor not being as interesting a protagonist. But still have admiration for this series and curious to see where it goes. ...Also I COMPLETELY forgot they made an Assassin's Creed movie lol

Seems right, even old X-play did that quite a bit
For sure, I’m seeing a bunch of tiktoks and shorts for it. Never played it, never interacted with AC pages or videos and I’m still getting them. Weird 👀
Bet you Microsoft will buy it, cementing all of them into Game Pass
Or it's the 15th anniversary?... And Ubisoft is pushing that fact. Why not capitalize on it themselves? Also yes welcome to capitalism...
Honestly, despite actively avoiding ubisoft for the last decade-ish (aliens killed the assassins creed series for me at the time) if they did release an assassins creed collection (especially if they gave some of the older games a face lift) I would probably buy it..
You have no idea how happy I am that Adam Sessler reviewed all the assassins creed games.
Man this video needed tbh !
its over for you Selzter!
I'm actually pleasantly surprised this covered the portable games. I feel like I'm the only person that regularly thinks about AC Bloodlines which I always thought was a good example of why the franchise would have never really worked on the PS2.
Bloodlines is the only a.c. title I don't own. Well that and chronicles. I haven't seen a copy of that game in 5 years it's like it never existed.
The saddest part about unity is it eventually became good.
That song is also used in the beginning of the conjuring 2. The clash were amazing nothing like em b4 or since.
How heavily moderated is this comment section?
Lots of stuff gets reported to the algorithm, which applies a second level of scrutiny to the reported comment.
Also, individuals can get shadowbanned.
On top of that, Comcast owns the show, so I'm sure there is a sweetheart deal with TH-cam to dismiss any dissent.
You fired Frosk. I will start watching again
I played the first Assassin's Creed for about 5 hours. It made me never want to play another one ever again.
Based
How do you make a video covering the entire Assassin's Creed series without including the titular "Creed" of said series, Austin Creed???
I just really, really want XPlays staff to know Hexe is German for Witch. and is pronounced Hex-eh, not hex-aye
Is everything ok by the way? You start lisping more and more
New dentures
Nose candy. He has a problem.
If the owners of this company like money and REAL FANBASE, Xplay should hire the FNT team to host this show..
Sadly, Comcast owns it.
That's why it was able to limp along for the better part of a year after wonder-thing's meltdown.
I now know why people don’t like the present day storyline of AC games. It’s not just that it’s basic parkour/walking simulator. It’s also too hard for feeble minds to accept that the majority of their experience is a side story in a much larger tale. Let alone keep track of two separate plots
Seriously, it’s fine once there’s no story and you get to just wobble around and read things?
Umm no. In that case, you leave me in the animus
Present day is the part that ties all the different games together and people just disregard it because of how boring the gameplay is.
The Egyptian assassin (Amunet) was actually Aya.
@@rabidbunnyman1678 that's what I thought but she didn't kill Cleopatra that I recall. was it a DLC I may have missed?
Why didn't Sess just do the whole video? The jump was a let down
Frosk really Gone
I really enjoyed the hide and seek multiplayer of the early AC games. Was very entertaining in my opinion
A lot of people don’t realize AC was always about the Isu and the catastrophe. The Assassins were the cover for it.
I have really found memories of playing AC2 and Black Flag now... Both were such epic, cool journeys. Great adventures! 😎
Assassin's Creed has such a convoluted storyline.
G4 will be missed.
I could watch Adam review games for the rest of my life..or his whoever goes first
you’ll probably go first
I could not watch a clapping seal for the rest of my life that's weird 😂😂😂
Won’t be long before this guy gets fired
Bye bye Frosk. You finally got what you deserved. Hope you're next Adam.
This was great. Can’t wait for Adam’s next video
True... The modern games aren't AC games... They just ordinary MMORPG's...
That’s it. We need an assassin bee movie game. Where Jerry goes crazy because bee Larry King asks if there will be a bee movie 2.
I played AC, AC2, AC Brotherhood, and AC Revelations back to back to back to back and I was already burnt out, and I'm nowhere close to halfway finishing them at this point. I might try jump back on again but I'm not hearing great things about them.
It took 5 or 6 attempts over a long stretch of time but I love AC Valhalla.
I've tried twice and cant get into it
@@stevenewsom3269 I think I just had too many great games at one time and couldn't commit to ACV but I am damn happy I tried again
It’s the best AC hands down. The stealth feels amazing. The raw combat feels amazing. The ranged combat feels good. It’s just an all around good game. But too many hardcore AC fans will never give it the time of day because they’re stuck in 2007
@@josephflannery9015 I didnt like it because there isnt any stealth.
How's Frosk working out?...Too Soon?
Well she's no longer "working" and she's definitely "out"..
Thanks for firing the toxic rant. Subbed again. Let's stick to games xD
Hey I like the modern story :) I like how there was the ones that came
Before. How it lend to a lot of stuff. And also how crazy Templar become powerful in present time.
Still hoping they remaster the first game. Prettt much every game is playable on the PS4/PS5 except that one. Would be nice to finally be able to add the first game to my platinum trophy collection.
As much as I enjoy the modern AC gameplay, I do miss AC classic!
How could you fire Frosk? she was the lifeblood of this company that had to change its name because of the damage she did to a once beloved brand!
Odyssey is my favorite AC game by far! I'm so excited that they're bringing back multiplayer, it's my favorite multiplayer game ever! 🥳
😂😂😂do the seal clap..while you listen to frosk...😂
She was shown the door...
TELL 'EM FROSK!
This was a good video! Emily has good energy for hosting too.
That part about the horses being humans with horse skin on top is horrifying.
I love Adam reviewing games
Unity was the best in gameplay. Black Flag comes close second, I preferred Black Flag story. Xplay is amazing.
After the previous video with The Last of Us, I expected Frosk to be doing this one as well
Didn't you hear? She's gone :)
Connor is my favorite assassin out of all the assassins assassins creed 3 is actually my favorite out of all the game so far but some respect on connor's name please. Would I have loved to seen more with Connor yes I would love to see what happened to him later.
