Great to see a nice review on an underrated little car. I had a P reg si , and it gave faultless service for nearly 250000 miles, before I traded it in - and wished I hadn't! For its price, it was a great little coupe, and showed Toyota engineering at its best. Of course on the same platform, was the Sera - and that is something else.
Absolutely brilliant video, I have always been tempted by a Mk5 Celica (one of my favouries from this generation of toyota), but ended up with the 16v Corado instead. Can recommend Laufenn Tyres if you're looking out for some new tyres, theyre Hankook tyres made under another same, same pattern and all. Grip fantastic and worked out £64 each on the Astra. (Which also just got all around new suspension).
Have a Gen 5 Celica myself and nothing beats it. Only my dad's Gen 4 in terms of driving. As for the Paseo, dude i'd be tempted to do a facelift myself, modifiying the bumper to the likes of the Gen 7 Celica's TRD Bumper, and adding the Gen 7 Celica hood scoop and lines for aesthetic. This car begs me to modify it. I wish i just had space to buy of myself and do the stuff.
Great video buddy. Few pointers...... the two Tropicana Paseos you pictured... that's my shot, mine is the ST (PHV) with now a remarkable 247000 miles on the clock. The ST still had PAS and Electric windows and mirrors, and the tilt and remove Sunroof which all UK cars had. The Si had ABS, Spoiler and Alloys, aswell as a Sony CD Player above the ST. MGF is an Si in the same colour (owned by Darren). That Galliano picture was of my mums back when she bought it in 2006 outside my Aunties on Priory Avenue in Taunton the day she bought it. It doesn't look so much like that now as I'd fitted the full optional kit and aftermarket alloys when I was young. But she does still own it today 😀
Hey good to see a fellow Paseo lover haha. I've had mine for 16 years now. I was in high school at the time and I've been through a lot with it and it is still holding up! I'm finally in spot to start working on it and just though to check and see what's on TH-cam. Lo-and-behold, I found your video here. Turns out I plan on lowering mine a bit just like you did there. I agree, it just looks pretty bad when it sits at factory height. Anyway, thanks for the video!
you had me at giant engine bay, i have one and it’s the best car it could be, only issues is it smells like pure gas when you start it, tons of wind noise and the engine is now turbo’d with a 1.5jdm block
Great to see some UK-based Paseo content; there's understandably hardly any of it around. I've had my '97 Si for just over a year now, and I definitely agree, it puts a massive smile on my face every time I drive it, being so fun at low speeds. It gets under your skin - I really can't see myself living without it. I concur with some other comments; I've got Laufenn tyres on mine, and they're a great budget option. Aside from seeing one in my area and one in Southampton a few months ago, I haven't seen any other Paseos in the UK in-person for years...
Man, 700 quid with only 144k km! Amazing. I have the exact same one, the Cynos Si :) love it, what a load of fun. Had mine for 4 years now, 170k km :) such a great car! Great to see you've done the work, great job. Can't believe these are still so cheap. I'm in New Zealand and it's called they cynos here as Japan import I think mine is 110hp. My clearcoat is going on the roof and I'm tempted to get the whole thing resprayed haha. As for colour, I love that purple/blue is already is (can't recal exact colour but it's stamped under the bonnet). Love the rims, I actually love the standard rims too.
Hi there, i have a turquoise coloured Paseo of which there are only 2 mot'd left in the country supposedly. Both of these are in Hastings East Sussex. I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the other coming towards me on the other side of the road (lol). Mine had an airbag warning light appear which would fail an MOT. On inspection from my garage the bag went off😢. Unable to get a new one the MOT station suggested doing away with the bags. This has been done with a 90s Toyota steering wheel replacement (no bag) and the passenger side dash bag taken out and a well of similar coloured plastic put in place. Im made up with the car and it only has 59 thousand miles on the clock.
Nearly any colour looks great on the Paseo. But I would suggest a medium green metallic. Have fun with your car(s) and give us an update on the Paseo. Best wishes!
It wasn't a desirable or popular car because its 1.5 litre engine couldn't keep up with GTI's. When they were seen, it was usually driven by Hairdresser's & elderly ladies who were into the funky metalic paint's. (especially the green & purple) If it had the stance of your car & 125hp it could have been a whole different story.
The paseo looks pretty good in red... ore british racing green with bronze rims. Not sure what it would look like with those rims but might be cool. I looked at the paseo for a while as a cheep hobby car to get started. Found out about them when I was looking at mitsubishi eclipse's
Awesome video, I've got a 95 model, completely agree with the lowering, it's the main aesthetic mod I would want to do as the stock suspension is so tall. Any more information about what you used and what the process was like?
Idc if it’s fun to drive!!! Tell me if this car last more than 200k miles tell me if there’s no spark plugs issue anytime you go fast . Tell me if the catalytic converter is reliable

My '97 Paseo Convertible (now 41,000 miles) isn't sophisticated, but it's really fun to drive. It has A/C, but no Cruise Control
I just got a used one with 210,000 miles on it. Super fun to drive. Yours is a unicorn.
Mine is yellow. Just got it and loving it so far. Needs the roof doing
Keep it. Those gems are rare. I have a black one my dad bought in 97
the tercel and sera also share engine with the paseo! im currently reviving a sera and hope to get it as clean as your paseo some day

Congratulations on the relatively new car
You made me love this car.
Looks like a fun little car
If you get past the fwd dismay. It’s an excellent little car. Nimble and steady.
