  • In this video, Dr. Kushner examines the parts of the eye (iris, cornea, lens, retina) and how information flows from the eye to the brain for processing.

Check your understanding: What is the blind spot?
    A. a region in the back of the retina where the bipolar cells and retinal ganglion cells meet
    B. a small area at the back of the retina where there are no photoreceptor cells
    C. an x-shaped structure where the two optic nerves meet in front of the thalamus
    D. a region in the visual cortex that contains no rods or cones
    E. a small area in the middle of the retina that contains the highest concentration of cones

To my mind (pun intended), this is a very good description of how a certain bandwidth of frequencies out there in the cosmic -- dare I say, holographic -- soup are processed by eye and brain parts attuned to react to specific measurements like color type, light amount, and so forth. And so the whole thing hums along inside the dark cave of my head as described. However, this feels like the map and not the actual road. Where's the image? Why, when I dream, when my sensory input valves (i.e., my eyeballs) and its corresponding processing is shut off, do I "see" images in my dream consciousness?
