  • I bought this 1997 SeaDoo XP from an honest seller who said the ski just shut off on him while riding two years ago. He said he tried replacing the computer, which was actually only the voltage rectifier. The ski was completely dead on arrival so I pulled the MPEM and found the potting melted on the back. Under the burnt potting I found the MR2535L diode that had overheated and fried. I located a replacement diode on eBay for $7.65 with shipping. Once I replaced the diode, and fixed the rotted negative battery cable, the ski came to life. My guess as to why the diode failed was that the rotted negative cable caused the voltage regulator to see low voltage and it sent more current to compensate which overheated the diode, but that's just a guess.

    My 97 GTI had a similar issue. I also found a problem with the same relay in the MPEM unit. Once replaced, it started and runs great.
    Glad to see that you got your XP to come to life.

      I used a caulk tube of black RTV and spread it evenly over the exposed electronics

      I just dug down to mine and it’s ohming out at 1.6 ohms. Is that mean it’s bad? My 5 amp fuse keeps popping

    I have a 99 SD 951 that blows the 15a fuse as soon as you hit the start button. Start and stator check out. I replaced the solenoid and coils with good ones. Fuse still pops. MPEM? Can of gas and a match?

      Get a wiring diagram and see what's on that circuit that could be shorting out, check the solenoid, check for damaged wires. Don't burn it, sell it to me!!

    Was the problem that when you put the 5amp in it the blow up immidia a have that problem whit same model jetski so how you open the mpm box on rear side

      Yes the 5 amp fuse would blow immediately. Removing the epoxy on the back is tedious work. Check out the video description there's some details in there that might help you

    ski is completely dead with a fresh battery and i don't get the 5 amp fuse blowing. is the mpem still dead? i checked the post key and start button and all check out.

      It could be the MPEM, a bad ground, starter solenoid, etc

      It could be the stator/pick up coil

    What do you use to seal it bro? I'm doing this as well

      I am using black RTV, I haven't done it yet but I think that'll work well

    • @SeaDooEric
      @SeaDooEric  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I just used a caulk tube of black RTV to seal it up and it seemed to work well. I removed all the potting compound on the back which wasn't necessary but I wanted to check the circuit board for other damage. After applying the RTV on the back of the board I used a Bondo spreader to smooth it out

    seadoo key How can I get over it when it's gone?

    • @SeaDooEric
      @SeaDooEric  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Use a wire from battery positive to the starter solenoid and the engine will turn over with no spark
