    Finally someone has explained this correctly. Head voice is a register, and falsetto is a lightly connected mode inside head voice. They are not the same thing. Thank you Adam for being smarter than 90% of vocal instructors on YT.

    • @hman2912
      @hman2912 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is it when you lightly connect in lower range? Is it still falsetto? Chest falsetto?

    • @phadrus
      @phadrus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hman2912 hey, interesting question. I’m not sure I know the answer but, my thought is in that register, it’s really just a difference in volume and that’s mostly related to how much air you’re pushing through your vocal cords, and leas to do with how you’re using the muscles in the vocal cords. So I don’t think there’s a name for that, other than, like I said, a bit of a difference in volume. What do you think?

      @@phadrus I don't know. I would think it's still falsetto, but who knows.

      Listen closely at 3:07, especially on the word "good". It's a bit deeper-sounding, with some of that chesty quality, and there's a specific vibrato as well. Might sound a bit "operatic" at times. Whereas the falsetto version sounds "sillier" for lack of a better word. I've only recently found my head voice, and I can attest that the difference is more obvious an octave down, where falsetto barely even works. Hope that helps.

  • @ashleelmb

    Nope. I have no idea what you're talking about. I've been singing for 22 years and I've always revolved my singing around 2 registers:
    *The lower vocal register:*
    Chest voice (which has some higher notes in it's range, that can also be sang with lower range notes the in the falsetto - A vocal overlapping if you will)
    *The upper vocal register:*
    Falsetto (what I've always believed to also be described as head voice, which again, as above, has some notes in the lower end of it's range that can also be sang by the upper range of the chest voice).
    If you're saying that falsetto and head voice are not the same thing and one of them isnt the chest voice, then you've lost me. Because theres only 2 proportions of my voice I recognise. This 3rd head voice which you claim isnt the falsetto, I mustn't have one because I don't recognise it. I can change the falsetto from breathy to piercing. And if you're saying that's 2 different vocal registers, I say bullshit. I can change my chest voice from breathy to piercingly loud too but that's still my chest voice!
    Conclusion: Falsetto and head voice are the same thing!

    • @billybaldwin8918
      @billybaldwin8918 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, falsetto and head voice are not even close to the same thing. When Pavarotti sings a high C, is that falsetto? No, it is his head voice. However, I think Adam is giving out bad information in his video above.

    • @ashleelmb
      @ashleelmb ปีที่แล้ว

      @@billybaldwin8918 A high C is in falsetto, also described as head voice. I don't listen to Pavarotti so I'm not familiar with his range. But if he can sing a high C and it's not in chest voice, it has to be falsetto/head voice.

    • @billybaldwin8918
      @billybaldwin8918 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ashleelmb No, I studied opera for many years. My chest voice goes up to about G4 when I have to negotiate my passaggio into my head voice up to C#5. My falsetto is weak because I never have a need to use it but it goes from C4 to F5. My whistle tone goes up to G6. (If you look at my videos, you will see examples of how I demonstrate all of this.) I would suggest that you get a voice teacher that is knowledgeable because it seems like you have been getting it wrong for a very long time. Good luck on your journey!

      @@billybaldwin8918 I was in an instruments band playing guitar when I was 17 and then I was in a vocal harmony group for a few years. And when I was in that vocal harmony group, we had a singing teacher and she was very good. Then I went solo and did my own shows up until covid hit. So I'm no ameture myself buddy. I know how to use my voice and I sing well. My range is chest voice, C2 to B4. And my falsetto range can sing Daniel Bedingfields 'If you're not the one'.

    • @billybaldwin8918
      @billybaldwin8918 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL! I have been playing instruments since I was 12 and I'm almost 60! You were in a vocal harmony group for a few years and you all had a singing teacher? Didn't you have an individual teacher? Your chest voice goes from E4 to B4 which is less than one octave? The song you mention only goes up to a D#5 which is not very high for a falsetto voice. I'm sure that since you are no amateur, you have plenty of recordings or videos of your singing. Please share some of them. I am dying to see you pulling your chest voice up to a B4 because I have never heard that before.
