I love this song, I have been been a fan of The Cure since their early days and have seen them live a number of times...once was at The Sydney Opera House during the Vivid festival, where they performed their first 3 albums in their entirety, all with band member changes, then an intermission, followed by an hour and a half of their most well known tracks. It was a perfect performance lasting well over 3 hours. The Hanging Garden is an amazing song that maybevyou could look into?
Thanks so much for this. My hands down favorite Cure song. Also fun to see Robert Smith sans red lipstick and wearing white. Absolutely would love for you to do a Cure week. My only issue is HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THIS IS 40 YEARS AGO?!? >damn, I’m old!
This was going to be my intro track for The Cure week... now that you've done it, we can skip right to the week 😜 Seriously though, great track, enjoyed your reaction.
Wow, that was genuinely amazing! Also, I had never thought of Midnight Oil and The Cure as having anything in common but this performance reminded me of early-mid 80's Midnight Oil in ways I don't understand.
I feel old. I saw Peter Garrett and the early Oils in a pub in Perth around 1976. We dropped in for lunch and not many in the audience. It was like the genesis of something very unique. And, yes, he danced the same way then as he does now. ☺️👏
The version on Show (recorded in Detroit) - is amazing. It has an extra verse and shows how the song evolved as a result of this very concert. In later shows it has a lot more breakdowns and solos - which was a direct throwback to what happened here. (That's also some fans underwear he has on his head).
Another band that I’ve never seen any live footage of, but it was unmistakably The Cure. Really cool to see them working as a 3-piece, as I’d always assumed that they’d had keyboard players from the very outset.
Yes, I trusted you guys (as you suggested on my last comment) and it worked!! Luv this song, and more Cure please - earlier stuff. And a T shirt please, haha. Thank you very much
i always love this performance... pissed them off being told to end early, and they made their mark , I have always called this the F*ck Robert palmer mix,lol
Thanks for the Cure--I feel better already. Suggest you may like Ella Fitzgerald's version of "Summertime" from a 1968 performance in Berlin. At your discretion.
Very much appreciate the lyrics. Not terribly significant for this song, but almost all of The Cure’s lyrics are amazing. If you liked this I think you might appreciate Charlotte Sometimes, Cold or Lament.
The track George was talking about may be Just Like Heaven? Huge song for them. Very interesting, experimental song. You're right, they do like the depressing lyrics with upbeat melodies. Which is why I like most of their songs that I hear.
Lol, wasn't expecting that at the end.😂 I had a love/hate thing with the cure too, but only because a friend played them over and over again, full boar, on a very long trip in a car. I ended up with a rotten headache and couldn't bare to listen to them for years. Anyway, this one is one of the best, along with love cats and close to me, for me anyway. 😘💖
The studio version is in my Top 10 songs of all time. I saw the 3 piece Cure in 1983 at Sands Royal Antler Hotel in Narrabeen on Sydney's Northern Beaches. I was 22 and life was exciting.
Hi it steve in uk again huge music fan love nightwish and the cure .seen the cure live to great band got all the cure cds dvds rareities even from there early days when they was called easy cure and when they did joint collaboration with siouxsie and banshees they was called the glove album called blue sunshine .love the cure .a forest is a classic legendary track .and they still goin now since 1977 .hope you guys ok
Not sure if you have seen them but over the last week I saw two great videos. Dylan covering Neil Yonge Old Man at Madison Square gardens and Neil young covering Dylan’s blowing in the wind.
I think that might be the best of the Cure's songs, really good performance here. But, if I had to make a choice, the studio recording is even more creepy and claustrophobic, more skin-tingling. Definitely a banger -- thank you for sharing that one!
Man, I had forgotten all about this song, and to be reminded of it by this version was an absolute treat. Such a fat sound. I wonder if I can get those words on a print on demand T-shirt? Perhaps over a background image of Palmer's roadies pushing the Cure's equipment off stage. This was a great track. I love it. (Oh, and pardon my ignorance, but is there such a sausage as a Peperami? Or, Alex, are you making a sensational hybrid out of Peperoni and Salami?)
I had to google to see who Robert Palmer was. I was born in the 70s but thats not a name I am familiar with. Amazing song by The Cure though. A Forest, Seventeen Seconds, Secrets, are some of my absolute favorites.
By the way, those were really good notes so kudos to Alex who wrote these I believe. I have to say that notes are a weak point for me, my notes are usually quite bad. It's just not a strength of mine.
This song did nothing for me being an old man from Canada. My punk experience was a local band from Hamilton called teenage head. The problem for me with the punk scene was socially we were not exposed to the hardships that led to the scene in Britain.
One of the Greatest UK bands ever, without the cure no Radio Head, love that early 80s bass.

My all time fav Cure song :)
Many decades ago I went deep down the rabbit hole of New Wave in my first few years of high school
And mine hence…. Hope you’re well.
I always found Robert Smiths voice so unique and it sounds no different live to the studio version.
This was going to be my intro track for The Cure week... now that you've done it, we can skip right to the week 😜 Seriously though, great track, enjoyed your reaction.
Sorry to shoot your fox
@@TheThamesmen no worries, cheers!

Smith improvised last verse(not on lp), especially the beautiful final words.
More of the Cure please
Ball bustin' bangers. 🫶

Great reaction, it was the bassist Simon Gallup who shouted F Robert Palmer, F Rock & Roll btw
Spot on. This song has always been a favorite and this live version is brilliant.
Robert James Smith was born in Blackpool on 21 April 1959, so he was 22 in 1981.
Absolutely incredible. Right up there with "The Kiss" as one of their best.
Another band that I’ve never seen any live footage of, but it was unmistakably The Cure.
Really cool to see them working as a 3-piece, as I’d always assumed that they’d had keyboard players from the very outset.
They made a 4 minute song last 8 lol. Legendary perormance!!!! My all time fave band!!!
great way to piss off Robert Palmer!
This is soooo good; thank you, Thamesmen, for the reaction!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yes, I trusted you guys (as you suggested on my last comment) and it worked!! Luv this song, and more Cure please - earlier stuff. And a T shirt please, haha. Thank you very much
My favourite Cure album is Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. But I do love this track too.
i always love this performance... pissed them off being told to end early, and they made their mark , I have always called this the F*ck Robert palmer mix,lol
Great to see The Cure make an appearance.' Primary ' is another good one from the early days.
Check out the Oz Countdown clip of this Only track I’ve ever known that is just 2 bass & drums

whopping great banger!
Always
One of the greatest ever Gothic Rock bands.
Wish we could do some Sisters of Mercy in that genre but would get three views at best and two of them would be Alex and I!
@@TheThamesmen Sister of Mercy doing The Rolling Stones. Would get some better numbers than that.
@@shspurs1342 does that exist?
@@TheThamesmen they did Gimme shelter mid 80’s. Never found live version. TH-cam has the album version. It’s so good.
@@shspurs1342 need to find that. Thanks
Good review guys. It’s so amazing how the Cure can make such great music with so few cords. They must be the Cure for bad music.
Classic Cure song, there is a later "live" version which is unreal..
Absolutely more Cure tracks. Pick any track from the In Orange concert.
The studio version is in my Top 10 songs of all time.

Kia ora hello guys from Aotearoa new zealand hay I've seen the cure twice here the last show three hour set,👏👏👏👍✌️🤘
Not sure if you have seen them but over the last week I saw two great videos. Dylan covering Neil Yonge Old Man at Madison Square gardens and Neil young covering Dylan’s blowing in the wind.
Saw live in California out there is bigger fan’s great live
You are lucky

What a great song, but this version is PHENOMENAL ( first time hearing...killer!)
Great Saturday breakfast banger with a huge dollop of HP sauce!
Hi Gentlemen..I've been away for awhile. Love this song it's my fav song of The Cure.
It is a stunning performance. loved it
The Cure are like Tim Burton movies. Such sweetness and romance amongst the depression and death!
I had to google to see who Robert Palmer was. I was born in the 70s but thats not a name I am familiar with. Amazing song by The Cure though. A Forest, Seventeen Seconds, Secrets, are some of my absolute favorites.
Are you guys going to check out Alone? Dropped on 9/27/24
Not yet. Not in the pipeline.
By the way, those were really good notes so kudos to Alex who wrote these I believe. I have to say that notes are a weak point for me, my notes are usually quite bad. It's just not a strength of mine.
Your notes are ace!!!!
Did you already reacted to Ayreon Age of Shadows with Marco?
This song did nothing for me being an old man from Canada. My punk experience was a local band from Hamilton called teenage head. The problem for me with the punk scene was socially we were not exposed to the hardships that led to the scene in Britain.
I think we need the Spider-Man song from The Cure
Fender Jazzmaster.
Not for nothing but it’s ‘A forest’. not ‘The forest’. Maybe I’m a dick but there you have it
You’re not a dick. Don’t listen to them. Those days have gone. They didn’t know how much damage they did to you.
The song was about loss.
I'm Cured like I'm a Nu man
Lovehate british
