I was at this concert. There was a power-cut half way through, which left the acoustic instrumentalists continuing to play, and the electric ones scratching their heads,
I was there too, but don't remember precisely, since mike problems, bad soundchecks and sound failures were very common (a real plague!) in Juan at the time. on the same night: th-cam.com/video/ewmfc__vPsA/w-d-xo.html ;-)
;-) Lew Soloff, what a virtuoso!...Trevor Koehler, another major member of the orchestra at the time, too (a deep drug addict, he sadly killed himself a few months later)

@@Eifila I like Abercrombie. But having two or three guitar players just makes it sound quite harsh and messy. I feel Miles also made this mistake during the early 1970s. However, I do love Gil and Miles of course.
This is another way of thinking about the place of the soloists in the collective sound of the orchestra, whether it is a large formation or a smaller one (in the 80's Paul Motian 5tets, for instance, the two saxophonists also often chorused simultaneously). It's different with Miles' band, since the roles were clearly divided between Pete Cosey as soloist and Reggie Lucas as rhythmician (I don't remember that it changed with Dominique Gaumont as 3rd guitarist, but I didn't listen to this period of Miles for a long time).

This is amazing , thanks for posting it. Hope you're well. All the best , Richard.

Wow awesome post 🙂Thanks Eifila
i'm the proud owner of the yellow gretsch just played here .: ) : ) : )
Great video find!! I always love that more archival footage with my Dad (Trevor Koehler) performing is being posted 😊
Two more, which you may already know, from the same '74 european tour on th-cam.com/play/PLcjcskQ1QDblhdA58NCJR8kJm7VNTz6X9.html ;-)
@@Eifila - Oh, wow!
Have 'subbed'!
All scored out now for 18 piece band!
fine!
@@Eifila - Actually, I changed it for 20 piece size!
"Cheryl" remains in C Major, as per Parker Omnibook!
There's a concert on TH-cam with Gil Evans big band playing Jimi Hendrix tunes? Hiram Bullock and Bill Evans are in the band?

What happened to Trevor Koehler? Brilliant musician!
He disappeared a few months after this tour (suicide after harsh drug and alcohol addctions).
@@Eifila That is terrible. He looks very thin here

Sorry about that, sad anyway for his relatives. He was a tremendous musician (w/The Insect Truth too before he became a major member of the GEO)
So is it basically a medley of three Parker tunes?
yep, as quoted in the description.
@@Eifila I might try and make a big band arrangement of this, which is why I asked.
Is the very first tune played CHERYL? Thanks.

So I was correct! Lol 😁
Lew sounds a little like Kenny Wheeler in places here.
I don't think that the idea of having two guitar players works very well.
they were 3 on the "plays Hendrix" sessions, a few weeks before
