The Tories got rid of the student grant the year I finished my A-levels. I wanted to do Art History, with an intent to become an Art teacher. My parents wouldn’t help me go to university as we were Jehovahs witnesses. I ended up a project 2000 graduate. June 2000. It was the only way I was ever going to go to university without crippling debt.
We were a good cohort. I was able to get lots of good critical care experience, and technical skills.
There was a schism between the Degree Nursing students and the P2000 students. Kind of classist.
I moved to Canada after 3 years recovery room and 2 years ICU. We were paid more. But we were less cared for by our employers.
The NHS was something I dearly missed. I ended up working for 20 years and burned out at the end of the pandemic.
I could never go back to working with the public, they are such arseholes.
