Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad: New Shortline, Old B&O Routes!

  • Belpre Industrial Parkersburg Railroad. The name may be cumbersome, but the diesels are sharp and the route is incredibly scenic.
    Earlier in 2020, with CSX wanting to get rid of their now-branch lines out of Parkersburg, a shortline was created just for that. The BIP runs out of Parkersburg's High Yard, once B&O's St. Louis Line, and has one piece of track running a few miles to a chemical plant in Belpre. They also have a line running along the Ohio River to Marietta (including some streetrunning!), then following the Muskingum River to Relief and serving customers along the way. It seems to be a success so far!

    I was a police officer In Belpre from 1980 to 1985, and two years with the Washington Co, Sheriff before that. I am very familiar with this Track. Chessie was still running main line trains through Belpre and even an Amtrak before it was cancelled. The main line trains were stopped around the time I left there. There was a Wye there in Belpre and one of the legs continued North to a Union Carbide plant, to Marietta, then through to Waterford And North to an Interlake plant. That run was only run a few times a week and the track was not in that good a condition. Its great to see they have saved this stretch! Will be watching for more of your videos.

    Nice job! Reminded me of living less than 20 feet from the St.Louis-Baltimore Mainline of the B&O in Athens, Ohio. Many slides of B&O and run-through units of SP, SSW, RDG and others that should be scanned.

    • @peterandben
      @peterandben  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you ever scan them, let me know! As an Athens native (and born years after the line was ripped up), I'm always eager to see every existing shot from the once-mighty B&O main.

    Wow, those are some sharp-looking engines! It says to the customer, potential customers, and the public, "we're professionals". I watch Jawtooth's channel and he films a local shortline where he lives. CCET RR and they drive me crazy with their crappy looking POS engines. Just because the engines are old, doesn't mean they gotta look like crap! Paint them CCET! Heck, if I ran the place I'd even go to Harbor Freight and get a compressor and spray guns on the cheap and do it in the yard! It would take a long time, but anything is better than what the have now..

    • @cdavid8139
      @cdavid8139 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've powerwashed a locomotive and then 'rolled' on paint in the past. But in the defense of CCET, sometimes these operations are cashflow negative. Barely meeting payroll and buying fuel. I do not know that to be the case of CCET, but I keep it in mind that it is possible.

      It’s funny how people complained about trains but yet live near train tracks but try complaining about it by telling the train company to not blow there horns or telling them not to run at night time or during rush hour. They have a job to do and important job to if you don’t like it move to where you aren’t near train tracks simple

    Any idea what they were doing with those coal hoppers? Were they going into storage or do the mineral facilities on the line use them to transport their bulk material?

      @peterandben  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Much appreciated! Drone video on the B&O bridge is absolutely a priority next time. To my surprise, those hoppers had coal loads, and I think the plant in Relief uses coal as power. That's just a guess though, I really know nothing about it!

      Go on duty Sunday night and run Monday thru Friday. They go down to the interchange with CSXT once a day. They have daily switch jobs for the customers in Marietta and Belpre. They go out to Relief with rock/coal 2-3 times a week depending on traffic levels.
