Why should it be avoided if it is not shirk or bid'a??!
The truth is, for the last few decades, ordinary Muslims have been bombarded aggressively and judgmentally by a certain viewpoint to the exclusion of others, and this has done much damage.
It has led to name-calling, accusations, browbeating, and harshness.

Seems a bit odd that there are giant scholars of Islam who have performed tawassul vs people who haven’t even completed any formal study in Islam extending a few years let alone decades, saying it’s shirk, who also probably can’t even understand basic Arabic or nahw.
Since when has the layman Muslim become more knowledgeable than an 3alim 😂
That’s all I see now. It’s not just the copy and paste of the “salafi” scholars but also lack of knowledge from the other side, which is why this honourable name of salafi has become hijacked 😢
I personally don’t have enough knowledge on the matter, and will not perform tawasul without the correct guidance from a teacher, but I definitely wouldn’t have the confidence nor the arrogance to call others performing tawassul, especially scholars as mushrik

If we were to apply the standards of shirk used by the Wahhabis consistently then the Prophet himself, the Sahaba , most the uluma throughout history, even ibn Taymiyyah himself, would all be mushriks
Ibn Abdulwahab’s father was a mainstream Hanbali scholar, he forbid his son from studying and preaching due to the deviant ideas he had developed which declared that the majority of muslims were actually polytheists, his father eventually had to exile him due to his persistence in spreading his falsehood.

Sayyiduna Uthmaan ibn Hunayf [radhiallaahu anhu] narrates that once a blind person came to Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] and said:
'O Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam]! Ask Allah to cure me.' Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] replied, 'If you wish I will make Du'aa or else you may be patient and this is better for you.' The man said, 'Make Du'aa instead', Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] then commanded him to make Wudhu properly and that he recites the following Du'aa, 'Oh Allah, verily, I ask of you and I turn to you through your prophet, the prophet of mercy, O Muhammad [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam], verily, I have turned to my Lord through you so that my need be fulfilled. Oh Allah, accept his intercession on my behalf.'
(Musnad Ahmad vol.4 pg.138; Sunan Tirmidhi; Sunan ibn Majah; Mustadrak Haakim and others). Imaams Tirmidhi, ibn Khuzaymah and Haakim have classified this Hadith as authentic. The words, 'I turn to you through your prophet' clearly proves Tawassul through the position of a person. Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] also told him that he should make the same supplication whenever he needed to. (al-Raddul Muhkamul Mateen pg.145)

@Ibn Eddie Translation: Imam Tabrani has narrated an incident that a person repeatedly visited Uthman bin Affan (ra) concerning something he needed but Uthman paid no attention to him. The man went to Uthman bin Hunaif (ra) and complained to him about the matter- [Note: this was after the death of the Prophet and after the caliphates of Abu Bakr and Umar ] so Uthman bin Hunaif said : “Go to the place of Wudu, then come to the Masjid, perform two Rak'ats and then say : “O Allah!, I ask you and turn to you through our Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad! I turn through you to my lord, that He fulfil my need” and mention your need. Then come so that I can go with you [to the caliph Uthman] So the man left and did as he had been told, then went to the door of Uthman ibn Affan (Allah be pleased with him), and the doorman came, took him by the hand, brought him to Uthman ibn Affan, and seated him next to him on a cushion. 'Uthman asked, "What do you need?" and the man mentioned what he wanted, and Uthman accomplished it for him ...(till the end of hadith)

The hadith is rigorously authenticated (sahih), as Tabarani explicitly states in his "al-Mu'jam al-saghir." The translator (Nuh Ha Mim Keller), wishing to verify the matter further, to the hadith with its chain of narrators to hadith specialist Sheikh Shu'ayb Arna'ut, who after examining it, agreed that it was rigorously authenticated (sahih) as Tabarani indicated, a judgement which was also confirmed to the translator by the Morrocan hadith specialist Sheikh 'Abdullah Muhammad Ghimari, who characterized the hadith as "very rigorously authenticated," and noted that hadith masters Haythami and Mundhiri had explicitly concurred with Tabarani on its being rigorously authenticated (sahih).

@@kingjames2156 Man you are confused what tawassul means. It means a way of approach to Allah.
So some scholars of the past like Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal considered it to be permissible.
While making tawassul you will make dua to Allah and say "Ya Allah I turn towards you by your Prophet please forgive me or bless me with this or that"
This is tawassul and it could be considered as bida'h.
Now what you are referring to is called 'Istighasa' which is completely shirk. That is to ask help from Prophet or any other saint by saying "Ya Rasoolallah (S) help me and grant me this or that" .This is shirk
