Dear Matt - thank you so much for that extremely concise but erudite and perceptive review of my novel translation. I am so glad you mentioned Kierkegaard's influence as this is just as important as Nietzsche's in my view. Tak skal du have - Paul Larkin, County Donegal, Ireland.

I mis-spelled Kierkegaard's name in the video. I do apologise. Also I forgot to mention Nietzsche, this is probably becuase i have been mentioning him almost in every video. His influence on literature of late 19th century and early 20 century is immense. I hope you enjoed the video. Take it easy!

I'm so glad to finally come across this! Have always felt that 'Lykke Per' and Billie August are very underrated among the Int'l audience. The background score & the performances were very powerful 🌟 I've been wanting to read the novel as well but I just don't know which English translation should I trust to do justice to the original work 🙈

Thanks for another great video and recommendation. To you, I recommend Niels Lyhne by Jens Peter Jacobsen, written in 1880. This novel influenced later giants like Thomas Mann, Hermann Hesse, Rilke, Walser, Ibsen--I think Kafka too.

Have you read “Pelle Erobreren” or “Pelle the conqueror” by Martin Andersen Nexø. Nexø is a famous danish communist author who was inspired by Pontoppidan. Furthermore the book was turned into a movie in the 1980s and received an Oscar for best foreign film.

The glorification of the anti-hero, sickness and failure. Keep aspiring for greatness while maintaining the deeper human needs. Do not allow these books to destroy your heroic urge for greatness.

My favourite Danish novel. Have you considered making a video on Holberg?
