  • LAWLESS is available now on Digital, Blu-ray Disc and DVD.
    They were brothers who became outlaws, and outlaws who became heroes... The three Bondurant boys (Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke), along with their sultry new hire (Jessica Chastain), command the most lucrative bootlegging operation in Franklin County, Virginia. The locals consider them “indestructible.” But the law-in the form of a corrupt special deputy (Guy Pearce)-wants a cut of their action, at any cost. When youngest brother Jack (LaBeouf) gets a taste of power with a deadly gangster (Gary Oldman) the whole business blows sky high. Based on the astonishing true story, the Bondurant brotherhood is the stuff of legend.
    Directed by John Hillcoat. Written by Nick Cave. Starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Jason Clarke and Gary Oldman.

    People think this movie was about bootleggers, but in actuality it's about brotherhood, family foundations, morals, and most importantly *real* freedom.

    I don t think alot of people realize that the movie is actually based on a part of history and a true story. If more people knew they would definitely watch it. Thank you for sharing these photos and your story. Lawless is a great movie with great actor's and actresses. It is definitely underated and deserves greater attention from the public. It should definitely be on tv more. I bought it on dvd and have watched it several times. It is different and once you watch it you want to watch it again God Bless.

    Grandma told me that their local Sheriff would warn them before the Feds came to the county looking for stills. One particular time the sheriff had to ride a mule to the location because it was so far in the mountains. Every time I go back home, at least one person mentions that story to me, there is just something about a sheriff riding a mule to warn a moonshiner that's hilarious to me!

    11:45~ Lemon and Limes in Moonshine.....? I grew up in N.Georgia in an town that had more stills than people at one time, near the area where Nascar was started by bootleggers, but I've never seen or heard of making fruity with lemon/limes(peaches,cherries,muscadines,were common). It must be a "new" practice because I don't imagine limes and lemons were cheap or easy to get in Appalachia back in the day.

    • @vincentpaul6384

      @Vincent paul
      How do you see them getting from Florida to the Appalachian area???
      In the 1920’s and 1930’s, roads weren’t all that great and in the mountainous areas of Appalachia, they were barely more than rutted out and widened cow paths and a few of the roads would follow creek beds for several yards to a mile or more!
      Therefore I’m thinking that shipping fruit from Florida into moonshine country was not as readily possible as one might think!

      It wouldn't have been impossible for them to get citrus fruits, lemons and limes were as readily available back then as they are now. Just because they lived in rural Appalachia doesn't mean they were blocked off from the world. Bootleggers gained majority of their profits from selling in cities, so it's likely they had a lemon and lime supplier in one of the cities they frequented.

    My grandfather was a moonshiner in Eastern Kentucky. There's no telling how many people he killed. There basically was no law up there back then. The very few police and judges he was in business with and he killed people for them. The stories I have heard from my aunts and uncles would make most of this movie seem tame. Those old mountain men were not to be trifled with. He was a sociopath without a doubt. He would walk outside and shoot his kids pet dogs and laugh. These guys would have been scared of him. Real evil exists and I pray you never experience it. He died a very gruesome death. I was just a baby but I was in the bed with him right before he died. I slept with my grandparents every night till I was 3. I was the only thing he loved in the world. Why nobody knew. He told everyone I was gonna be as mean as him. While I am way shorter tempered than most I am nothing like him. I'm only mean to the deserving of such.

    That pistol is a 38 colt police. I have the same pistol. Except mine has factory grips. Inherited from my father💯 👊

      It's a S&W K Frame. You can tell by the cylinder latch and the ejecter lug under the barrel. A Colt had a different style of cylinder latch and no ejecter lug. I've got a K Frame S&W model 13 with the exact same latch and lug.

      No, I am not wrong. Colt revolvers and S&W revolvers have VERY distinctly different cylinder latches which makes them very easy to tell apart.
      The pistol in the picture very clearly has a S&W cylinder latch which is pushed forward to release the cylinder. The cylinder latch of Colt is pulled rearward.
