In the case of entwickeln, the most common use of -ent actually makes sense for me, if you think of wickeln as a tightly packed ball of wool, and entwickeln as the ball unwinding and actually becoming a more sophisticated object, like a sweater :)

I just wanted to maybe present you with another view over a specific meaning of a word or rather over the origin of its meaning. I'm a greek guy and I've been studying german for a pretty long time and just recently I have been able to speak german comfortably and fluently. (Needless to say it has given me a hard time, goddamn you germans, haha).To my own and others' awareness there are some similarities in the logic of my mothertongue and yours, of which one becomes aware due to the inevitability of the comparison between languages as soon as the learning process starts. Anyway the greek equivalent verb for entwickeln is ''αναπτύσσομαι''. Comes from ''ανά + πτύσσω'', where πτύσσω is ancient greek for ''to fold'' and πτύσσομαι is its passive form.(The meaning of the first component doesn't fit the parallell that I'm trying to draw, so I'll just leave it out.) So if ''wickeln'' means to wrap, "entwickeln" could be understood as to become unwrapped, to unfold, to be released from the things tie you up and restrain you, so that you have room to grow. (Being in debt hasn't necessarily something to do with being dumb...) Best of wishes once more to you and your channel!

Entkommen - you escaped from the center of something. You were in prison, inside it, and came out of it. There were a couple of details you mentioned in the video that I found kind of cool and striking in their parallelism with Old English (especially where Modern English has lost those particular similarities). Old English had a quite productive prefix "on-" (or very early Old English "ond-") that's very parallel, and presumably cognate, to the pair you were discussing; they can have a negative sense, like in "onlucan" (to unlock) and "onbindan" (to unbind), but it also sometimes appears in a different sense that's a little harder to pin down, including even in "onfon" (to receive; see: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/onfon). In fact, that verb, although I don't think it has any descendant in Modern English, shows up in a somewhat famous and (i.m.h.o.) beautiful passage at the very beginning of Beowulf, where the Scylding people are performing the funeral rites of their old king by laying him in a ship full of treasures and pushing it out to sea, unmanned. The narrator says that "Men ne cunnon secgan to soðe - selerædende, hæleð under heofenum - hwa þæm hlæste onfeng." or "Men cannot say in truth - hall-counselors, warriors under heaven - who that freight received." Just a random bit of trivia, but I thought it might be as interesting to you as it was to me. : )
entrinnen is a more high register/slightly antiquated term for "entkommen" :) "seinem Schicksal entrinnen" is a very common/somewhat cliched phrase in writing.

"*ören" gehört zu den letzteren; "puppen" gehört zu der ersteren - gibt's nicht, aber aufgrund des sehr eingeschränkten Bedeutungsrahmens (auf "verpuppen" und "entpuppen"), könnte man meinen, man versteht den Sinn des Verbs trotzdem. Das Ganze nennt sich bei ein paar Linguisten "gebundener Stamm" und bezeichnet genau sowas: Ein "Stamm", der gar keiner ist, weil er nämlich ausschließlich in Verbindung mit "Anhängseln" vorkommt. Ich meine, das hätte ich im Video zu be- erwähnt. D.h. Klartext: Du hast Recht insofern, dass man "empören" nicht aufsplitten kann; es gibt auch Linguisten, die deswegen wahrscheinlich sagen würden, empören ist gar kein echtes präfigiertes Verb. I think it comes down to exposure. All Germans, but those of us who are on TH-cam a lot especially, hear a LOT more American English than British unless they specifically seek it out. In school they still start out with British, but that comes down to the teacher's level of pronunciation, really. SO most end up with a mix and then a lot who pratice further tend to migrate more and more towards American. I personally can do British, but American is definitely a lot more... intuitive most days. Just because I hear it every day.
