I can use a lot of video formats, but your safest bets are the usual candidates: .avi, .mov, .mp4 - DON'T use .dv, please.
Once you're happy with your video, send it to me via ONE of these channels:

- send me a DropBox link/invite me to a folder (also dfekontakt@gmail.com)
- send me a link to a the video on TH-cam, also via mail

To make “anhalten” even more confusing a fourth usage can be given: “jemanden anhalten etwas zu tun”/ “jemanden zu etwas anhalten”. Funnily - or rather tragically - enough this somewhat has the opposite meaning of “jemanden anhalten”, as this means “to urge someone to do something”. In the spoken language it is not often seen in the wild, unless a more sophisticated register of speech is present, I suppose. But in literature it is still around.

I've been learning German since 8th grade... it's a slow process and it's hard to tell when I'm making progress.

Ich denke zu "anstehen" sollte man noch die zweite Bedeutung erwähnen: Wenn sich das Verb nicht auf eine Person bezieht, bedeutet es ja meistens, dass etwas im Begriff ist, in naher Zukunft zu geschehen: "Omas Geburtstag steht wieder an" :)

Abgehen ist auch ein Verb dafür, was Lawinen machen und dafür einen Weg prüfend entlangzulaufen.
Das sind natürlich auch keine Bedeutungen, die oft benutzt werden. Sie sind mir aber geläufiger als der Theaterausdruck.
Nice idea for a series. Even though it's not always a perfect fit, knowing the general meaning/concept of the prefix should help in remembering the verb...maybe..hopefully :P

It is a regional phenomenon.
Samstag: South and West of Germany; Austria and Switzerland
Sonnabend: Northern and Eastern Germany

What I dont understand is why explain that "ab" has the sense of moving away from sth, but doesn't explain in her examples why is that the case, there a few ones like absagen, ablegen, abgehen, absehen, abfinden, well the majority, it'd be very helpful if she could explain the relation of that idea moving away from with each verb, to help us memorize, because last year I tried to understand this video, this year I gave it a try again but it's hard to understand, I lose heart and think the only way is to memorize

Hi, I'm obviously not Katja but I'll try my best to give you at least an idea of what it could mean.
"Das Aussehen" = appearance, to look like someone or something
"jemanden oder etwas ansehen" = to look at someone or something (there are even more meanings for this word... But I'll leave it to Katja)
"Das Ansehen" = the reputation or prestige and respectability

mmmmmh yes it does; at least in the non-colloquila/original meaning. "to hang off of something" - so away from whatever it's hanging on. the implication is there.
either way though, like i mentioned in the tutorial meaning, there is absolutely no 100% consistency with the general/main meaning of the prefix for most of them (if not all).

There's something I don't fully understand about 'ansehen'. When does it require the (dativ) 'sich'? For example, to say something like "I am watching a DFE episode", should I say "Ich sehe mir eine DFE-Episode an", or is the 'mir' optional? Also, in the Perfekt, does it have a specific spot within the sentence? (For example, in "Ich habe mir schon die letzte DFE-Episode angesehen", is 'mir' in the right place?)

now, as for the reflexive part: when you are watching something, it's definitely "sich etwas ansehen". The same goes for the case of looking at inanimate objects. When you are looking at somebody, however, it's "jemanden ansehen". Also: "Ich sehe mir eine Show an." + "Ich sehe mir das Fahrrad genauer an." ABER "Ich sehe dich/den Mann an."
The reasoning behind this is that "sich etwas ansehen" is kind of equivalent to taking a closer look, to examine something as an object. While when you look at somebody, you usually do this while meeting your gaze, partaking in a communication of sorts. So "jemanden ansehen" means that you are making a conscious effort to look at someone or even making eyecontact. Of course you could also say "Ich sehe mir dich mal an.", but that's either something you'd say as e.g. a doctor (again, the closer look, the examination of the patient as a medical object more so than a person) or as a person who doesn't see the other person as a subject for another reason. So "Die muss ich mir mal näher ansehen!" (I'll have to take a closer look at her/that one!") immediately has an objectifying connotation in most contexts.

"As soon as it gets/is dark, we make a run for it." -> "abhauen" is a colloquial way of saying run away, flee :) Non-colloquially, it can also mean to forcefully take something off of something else without tearing at it (!), as "hauen" is a more childlike word for "schlagen"; "Er hat ihm den Arm abgehauen!" -> "He just took his arm off! [with some sort of weapon/force that could detach a human arm when used in a "beating" or, more likely, chopping way]"

nope. nothing besides verbs because of how words work in German - and not all of the prefixes with verbs, either; watch ep 95, that might help :)

9:53 the explanation of reflexive is not quite right. The reflexive in sich etwas ansehen does not mean to look at yourself. Instead, the sich naturally goes with the verb ansehen.
Gotta differentiate there - the form you are referring to is only in the subtitles; I skipped over explaining that one. Would've been better to add a comment on it, in order to put it apart from the reflexive one, sich ansehen (without "ewas"), which is the one I explained here. You are right about "sich etwas ansehen", though - just have to be mindful that "sich etwas ansehen" and "sich ansehen" both exist, but mean different things. (you probably already know this yourself, but also adding this comment for future comment section readers)

its advanced yeah, but we germanspeakers encounter the same problems in english. acutally this is the very part when people who can say basic stuff, say they dont understand english really well, cuz they cannot get into all those phrases and sayings. it's the counter between knowing a language average, and divin' really into it.

I can't really think of a literal translation for "crush". You would most probably use "verliebt sein in" (to be in love with) or fitting to the prefix series "hin und weg sein", which is more poetic. More colloquial would be "verknallt sein in", which I would only use for younger people.

Sometimes you can find a suitable translation but since they're culturally designed to express an idea, they are different in each not only language but culture or even region in a country where people speak the same language :).

Why would it ends in an m? That only happens when something is being contracted with an article.

"an" is one of the prepositions that can be used for both directions and places (just like "in"). So when it's referring to a direction or movement of some sort, it uses Akkusativ, while if it's talking about a place ("Der Mann steht an der Ampel."), it uses Dativ. So when it's translated with "to", it's usually Akkusativ, when it's "at", it's usually Dativ.
Megalus, you're kind of jumping all over the place here; the contracted "m" doesn't work with "jemanden", which is what he/she was asking about. Vorsicht!

Ich weiß nicht, woher das Wort "aufpunzen" kommt, hab es auch nirgendwo gefunden. Meine Familie und das familiären Umfeld mütterlicherseits verwenden das schon seit Ewigkeiten. Klassischer Ruhrpottscher Bergmannsadel. :D
Das Substantiv ist "Punze". Ich vermute ganz stark, dass es sich von der Märchenfigur "Rapunzel" herleitet. Es wird situativ verwendet und bedeutet in etwa "Prinzessin"/"Prinzesschen" oder "hübsche/eitle/besonders zurecht gemachte Person". Es wird fast ausschließlich ironisch, sarkastisch oder diminutiv verwendet. Bei Kindern eher verniedlichend, bei Erwachsenen geht es in Richtung Ironie und (ironischer) Sarkasmus auf dem Level 30 Jahre Ehe.
Von dem Wortstamm leiten sich entsprechend Verben wie "aufpunzen" = "sich (unangebrachterweise/übertrieben/übertrieben sorgfältig) zurechtmachen" oder auch "rumpunzen" = "sich wie eine Prinzessin aufführen" ab. Andere abgeleitete Substantive sind "Gepunze/Rumgepunze" = "eitles prinzessinnenhaftes Verhalten" bzw. "die wie-seh-ich-aus-Frage". Adjektiviert wird daraus "aufgepunzt" oder "punzig".
Ich hoffe ich habe dich nicht auf soziolektisch verschwurbelt beleidigt. ;)
