    Thank you for your video and for raising this important issue regarding energy management in Tanzania.
    You mentioned that five hydroelectric power plants have been shut down while 45% of the country's electricity production comes from gas or oil. It is true that the production costs of hydroelectric plants are generally very low once the infrastructure is in place, especially compared to the initial construction costs. This indeed raises questions about the relevance of such decisions.
    However, if the hydroelectric plants are in a situation of overproduction, it could mean that the electrical grid is unable to handle the excess energy generated. Electrical systems require a constant balance between supply and demand. Overproduction can lead to technical problems and inefficiencies in grid management.
    Nevertheless, let’s consider the figures: with a production capacity of 2500 MW for a country of 62 million people, this represents about 40 watts per person, barely enough to run a refrigerator. Is this really overproduction? These figures suggest that Tanzania still has a long way to go to fully meet the energy needs of its population.
    In this context, it might be more relevant to limit the production of oil and gas plants, which are more expensive and polluting, in order to maximize the use of clean and cheap hydroelectricity. However, this requires a robust and flexible grid infrastructure capable of managing production variations.
    Moreover, oil plants are often used to respond to peak demand or as a backup solution, as they can be activated and deactivated more quickly than hydroelectric plants. It is therefore essential to maintain some oil production capacity to ensure grid reliability.
    Your question highlights the need for strategic energy planning and infrastructure modernization to fully utilize renewable energy sources while ensuring the stability and reliability of the electrical grid.

    It's not an achievement excess of 200mw is nothing special they are 60 million people with a generation capacity of 2000mw south Africa has similar population with a capacity of 58000mw very different scenario

      I disagree, this is a huge achievement for Tanzania, they have a population of 69M, this is more than a lot of European countries, such as the uk population is at 68M.
      South Africa population is 61M, so isn’t that impressive, if they are able to be energy self sufficient, that’s a cause for celebration as it’s a country moving in the right direction for its citizens
