How to Crochet a Doll: Part 1

- This tutorial will show you step by step how to crochet part one of the Crochet Morgan Doll. We are working this as a CAL in three parts and this is the first part. Find links to the second and third parts below.
PLEASE NOTE!!!! The hook shown in this video is the wrong mm size - you should use a size D 3.25mm, not a 3.0mm. I thought all D hooks were the same mm, but they're not. That's why the body of my second doll is coming out so much smaller! If you want the same result as the original Morgan, please be sure to use 3.25mm.

I just finished. This was my thanksgiving weekend project since we are setting home and practicing social distancing never crochet before, but I did it. Next, just have to figure out how to make her dress. Just love the doll! Thank you for the pattern.

I love your doll and thank you for sharing this tutorial. Can I use I Love This Yarn, an acrylic 4 weight from Hobby Lobby? I am okay using a D or E hook with that yarn no problem but i have surplus of I Love This Yarn and two 7 yr.olds asking for this doll.
This is interesting that you started with the legs going upwards. I am crocheting a doll, and it's from the head going down.

When starting on the body to increase. Is it just the one 2 single crochet on the side and then back to single crochet back around?
How many stitches on last row for starting of neck?
I’m having the hardest time finding the amigurimi yarn in skin tones.
Could I use 4 weight? Like Michael’s = Loops & Threads® Impeccable™ Yarn, Solid
Or should I just weight until they restock DK yarns. Amazon sells is for 3 times the prices that Joanns does. 😞
You could do that! If it's too tight go up a hook size. You doll will be a little larger but it will still be cute :)
@love.life.yarn. by Amanda Saladin I was doing great until Row 18. After R18, is it R19 - sc around, R20 - sc with a dec on each side. Then repeat Rows 18-20 until I reach the neck(12sts)?

😅 help, i'm stuck at this... So, um... What does it mean to "work even in single crochet" in rows 4-11? I'm not a native English speaker, so I don't get it 😅 someone explain plz
Hi! That just means that you work those rows on the same number of stitches, so just work 8 rows in single crochet without adding or subtracting any stitches. :)

I like the dress but I wanna make a wardrobe for her is there any type of clothes that wouldn't work for her?

What other types of yarn would work for her dress? I want to use a different color than the ones they have for the wool-Ease DK.

@@misselanys1219 I can normally get away with one skein! 380 yards. (But you can get two skeins to be safe)
What kind of yarn is best for dolls? Cotton?
Cotton is a good choice, but I've seen Morgan made with all kinds of yarn. The yarn I chose is a cotton/bamboo blend and I love the way it turned out.
Are there any downsides to stuffing dolls with cotton balls?
I've never tried with cotton balls, but when I first started making crocheted animals and dolls I stuffed them with extra yarn. :)
Would you stuff the toe of the boot to help the shape of the boot ? :D

I love Morgan trying to make her legs but they keep coming out the size and shape of a golf can someone help me out with this?
What size yarn are you using? The yarn I'm using here is a lighter DK yarn. That would definitely affect how large she turns out.
I don’t know the size but I think my hook is too small for the yarn if I remember. What does work even mean?

How long should the legs measure?
Just measured mine and they are 4.5" long :)
How can I make a bigger doll please, like a 20 inches doll
Hi! It's easy to make her bigger - just use a thicker weight yarn than DK (worsted would probably do it) and go down a couple of hook sizes from the size recommended on the label. I've even seen a very large Morgan made with chunky yarn!

Can I use a 5.0 hook
You can, but with a yarn that lightweight you will more than likely see the stuffing. If you want to use a larger hook, you will need to use a heavier yarn (worsted or more).

It takes less than one

I'm working on another doll pattern who will be the same size and her clothes will fit Morgan :)
