  • The other day I welcomed the Marien, Bert and Roland from ‪@Hauptwerkgek‬ round to the BIS Music Room for them to hear and play their own sampled organs on my organ. Luckily, they went away feeling suitably impressed!
Here is Marien Stouten playing Thalben-Ball's 'Elegy' using his very own Dudelange sample set on Hauptwerk. Incredibly, he allowed me to register the whole piece for him, on-the-fly!
It was also fun to inadvertently interrupt a pub quiz on the previous evening and to catch up on the latest news in the world of Hauptwerk. It's fair to say that these guys are involved in some very exciting projects over the coming years!
After leaving BIS, team Voxus made their way to see the UK's finest and most exciting organ.
    Why?
Because they're about to sample it, and BIS will be right there to see how it is done and to share the journey with you!
    Absolutely amazing!

Making money is not my primary objective. After expenses are taken into consideration, remaining revenue is invested back into BEAUTY IN SOUND. Audio and visual equipment is expensive, and I also pay a fair fee to all recitalists who appear on BIS. This is why I regularly ask YOU to help, and I’m sorry for having to do so. I hope that you can all see the tangible improvements being made to BIS along our shared journey.

It was played beautifully at my Mother’s funeral celebration last June by Dr Tom Corfield who played it with complete heart and passion! It’s one of those pieces when you can hear the anointing of an organist in the manner with which this piece is played! They was a lot a tears shed by all when Tom was playing this after I had read the Eulogy 🥲

Wow. Just..... wow... the on-the-fly registrations, the performance itself.... bravo to all!! Also, while being registrant-extraordinaire, I hope you had an opportunity to enjoy the music itself Richard!

Absolutely fantastic. I have to comment first on your amazing video editing (I LOVED THAT BIT!) - then your amazing registration (how well you know both the physical console, and also the Dudelange organ) - Marien's playing was completely enthralling. SUPERB (I wonder if Marien felt like he was back home in the netherlands... perhpas at the Laurenskerk, with an expert team of registrants - except the team... was one superRichard!)

I had the great good fortune back in the 1970s and 1980s to hear Sir George Thalben-Ball play regularly at the Temple Church and often in recitals. What I always noticed is that he never allowed slow movements to drag. When they drag they become lethargic. He seldom played this Elegy, I believe I heard it only twice, but he moved it along faster than what we have here, and it was the better for it.

Beautiful - crikey you were working hard Richard.
    Love the wobbly 32' graphic!!
The on-screen registrations are an excellent feature - good positioning too, haven't seen that since you tried it in columns down the side. Can the software 'memorise' what you have selected at any given time to semi-automate that process, or are you going through recreating the registration scheme change by change, in which case I can imagine that is very time consuming, especially if you are blocking the camera to know exactly what changes you have made on the fly.

@@beautyinsound "Better than that!?" I know of one UK organ bigger than that but then size isn't everything. In any event, it sounds like I need to start saving up but I know how long these things take so, thankfully, I will have some time to prepare!
Beautiful rendition (and registration) of the Elegy, by the way.
