Your drawing ability is key. Also placing the colours accurately and loosely in the beginning with acrylics is a great idea and enhances the general vitality of the painting.
I been using your method for like two months now, I been watching and trying to follow other videos, your technique is really the one I like, Thanks Michael.

I love the Impressionism in these paintings
To me this is photo realism
Bernie Watts photo realism and impression of realism are the same thing. Photo realism means it looks like a photo. Which most artists don’t take as a compliment but I don’t see anything wrong with that. Technically speaking, he’s using Impressionism to achieve that. I guess I’m just talking about the technique, not the historic of Impressionism.

Wow Amazing.
I use a small white plastic cutting board I picked up at Walmart for a mixing pallet. It is handy, quite movable, but doesn’t slip around and easy to clean. Just thought I’d share.

what do you use to make your paint flow so smooth ? linseed oil , liquin , gamsol?
Acrylic for base color, and oil on top. I need to do this because oil is more expensive

You mention at 0:09 that the trees in the upper left are mainly Scots Pines. That probably explains the brown foliage of many of the trees which are either dead or dying. Scots Pines (or Scotch Pines, Pinus silvestis) are subject to disease and insect infestations.
did anyone else see King Kong ( Gorilla) peeking threw the trees before Michael started adding the darker color ? LOL...anyway another great tutorial , Thanks MJS

I believe the first layer is done in acrylic for that very reason :)
Love your work but almost to much detail. But we are all different. I tend to like more abstract color shapes that don't look like a photograph. But I still very much love watching your videos and was a subscriber of your "old" site. I will join your new one for awhile as well. I especially enjoy your block ins. From there to me they look great with just little more embellishment. But to each his own:-)
I'm a huge fan of Mike Svob, and well as Edgar Payne and Franze Bishcoff, really trying to adapt my style somewhere in between:-) Great stuff:-)
