  • Star, Idaho | Is Star Idaho a Good Place to Live?
    Are you looking for the best places to live in Idaho? Maybe you are searching for a place to live that is a small town near Boise Idaho and wondering where to live in Boise? Is Star Idaho a good place to live?
    Yes! I will show you around Star Idaho, show you downtown Star Idaho, and give you a great overview in this video about Star Idaho. I will show you some popular communities like Heron River Star Idaho, Colina Vista Star Idaho, and Hope Springs in Star Idaho. I will show you lots of pictures of Star Idaho including a map of Star Idaho, talk about the amenities, parks, recreations, and all the great things Star to offer. I'll go over schools, and there is not a Star Idaho School District because Star is actually in the West Ada School District and includes Star Elementary School.
    Star is not actually a suburbs of Boise because it is its own city, but it is just west of Eagle Idaho, north of Meridian Idaho, NorthEast of Nampa Idaho, and northwest of Boise.

    Great video Summer! Very comprehensive and informative. It's nice to hear some of these facts since we just moved here. I never thought we'd live in Star but we ended up buying a house sight unseen and we are loving the small town so far! The lack of a grocery store is definitely the biggest con but Ridley Family Market is building one and will be done in December/January. The shopping in Meridian brings the crowds so I'm happy to venture to that area once in a while but glad I don't live in and have to deal with all that Eagle Rd traffic!

    • @SummerAstonRealEstate
      @SummerAstonRealEstate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! I think Star is a great place to live. I forgot about Ridley's!! And then you are getting an Albertsons in Star in 2021 and they are also building some townhomes and other shopping amenities around it, like coffee shops and such. So that should be a nice addition. The new Costco just straight up highway 16 is super nice to have now. But still drop into the Star Merc once in awhile to keep them in business!!

    • @SummerAstonRealEstate
      @SummerAstonRealEstate  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! No wildfires really in Boise itself, but yes, always summer wildfires in the wilderness areas. Sometimes seasons are worse than others. Last summer we had so much smoke for weeks from fires in the west (not idaho). So…it’s part of living in the inter mountain west for sure. But some summers we have hardly any smoke and others we get a lot.

    Hi Summer, thank you for the informative video. I have the following questions.
    1) Is this area windy? Any problem to grow herbs and vegetables all year long if a green house is built?
    2) what is the property tax rate in Star?
    Thank you.

    • @SummerAstonRealEstate
      @SummerAstonRealEstate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good questions, thank you for asking. Star is not windy. Maybe if you lived on top of the hills it would get more wind, but in general, it is not windy. I have a big veggie garden, and I also have a system to extend the growing season, so I can grow what is in season from about April-October, and certain things can overwinter if we don't have too harsh of a winter. You can grow things all year round in a green house, but you would still need to add an outside source of heat to do that. You really could only grow things like lettuce, kales, broccoli...cold weather crops in a heated greenhouse in the winter here. Unless you had a very sophisticated set up. Our first freeze date can be the middle of October and we can have a freeze all the way up to mother's day. We have several nights down to the single digits in January usually.
      The property tax rate is about 1% of the assessed value of the home, you get a $100k homeowners exemption, and then there are various levies and such depending on where you live. Star is in Ada County, so go to the Ada County website and you can email to see what the exact rates are for Star, but the general rule of thumb is based on 1% of assessed value, which is typically a little lower than what you could actually sell the house for.

      Nothing like like 0 hours from downtown Boise :). But certainly all kinds of options within 3 hours, especially if you head north/north east towards the mountains. I don't have any specific lots in mind...The best thing for you to do would be to look on a map and check out the areas around places like Idaho City, Banks, Lowman, Cascade, McCall, Lowman, GrandJean, Placerville, Cambridge, Sweet, Pine, Featherville, etc.. this is just to name a few. Of course those other details you want will depend on the site itself.

    • @SummerAstonRealEstate
      @SummerAstonRealEstate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      All the areas have great places for teens - most people choose an area based on lifestyle, or preference in size of town, or affordability. But Boise, Meridian, Star, Eagle, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna, Middleton..all could make a great area to live depending on what you want/need. As far as snow driving goes - we really don't get very much snow. So far this year, we've only had a couple of inches back in November and no real measurable snow since then. If you email me at summerastonrealestate@gmail.com, I can send you a link to a relocation guide that highlights the various towns.

      Yes! In the video I talk about the River Birch Golf Course that is in Star, but there are several close by. Spurwing is the premiere Golf Club of the area, and that is about 15 minutes from Star. There are also a few courses close by in Eagle like Eagle Hills, Shadow Valley, and Banbury..and then there are a few in Nampa and Caldwell, also within a 30 min drive, and then of course there are several in Boise within a 30-40 min drive of Star as well. Or you can make a day trip up to the mountains and golf at a few courses around MCCall. Plenty of great options!

    That’s a lot of money to live in Idaho. The locals must be pissed that the living costs are going up so much because of the influx of people from out of state.

    • @SummerAstonRealEstate
      @SummerAstonRealEstate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, many locals are unhappy with the cost of living rising so much. But it's not just from an influx of people out of state (which is certainly a factor). It was a combination of all kind of things that were a residual effect from the shut down (low inventory, labor and supply shortages, etc..) and it is unfortunately happening all over the United States, not just to Idaho.

    What do people do for work in Star? How do they afford the home prices?

    • @SummerAstonRealEstate
      @SummerAstonRealEstate  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The homes in the area were very affordable up until the last 2 years, and especially 2020 prices really increased. So if people bought homes before then, they work all over.. teachers, nurses, retail, business people, manufacturing, etc... The majority of the people moving here that can afford the homes now are two income workers working remotely with salaries from out of state, states that pay much much more than Idaho. Or, much less so, it is local Idahoans who are cashing in on their equity from an older home to build a new home. The Boise area is really now a suburb of Seattle, San Francisco, Portland, LA, etc..as 2020 brought the possibility of remote work. Star also has people who have retired, sold their more expensive homes in other states, and buy a house here.

  • @legit7727
    @legit7727 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wow. That's a lot higher priced real estate than in south Georgia. Nice 3000-3500 sq. ft. homes on 5-ish acres run about $300,000 - $340,000. With a pool. We earn a little over 200/yr. How do people afford this? Must be great jobs out there!

    • @SummerAstonRealEstate
      @SummerAstonRealEstate  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Homes just recently, in the past 2 years, but really the past year, jumped up in price here. So people either already owned homes here, or if they are moving here, they afford it by working remotely from higher paid jobs in CA, WA , OR, NY, etc... Idaho salaries do not support our housing market - it's the out of state salaries/retirement pay that does. The ability for people to work remotely has been the number one factor in driving up demand here, and making it so people can afford to offer over asking prices to get what they want, driving it up even more. Most of the people moving here are also well established and have a lot of equity in the homes they are selling to work with.

      @@SummerAstonRealEstate Seems like a great place to live. I guess if you're a local with an existing mortgage it's no big deal, until you want to buy another home - ouch!
