Watching this in Feb 2023 and just ordered 3 of your Perch rigs from Amazon! Last summer I was catching and releasing some nice Perch on a favorite lake in the Bancroft area but will keep some for the table next summer. So ya, can't wait to get back out in the kayak. May can't come soon enough!!
Ivo, I love your videos. They are always informative, as well as being fun to watch. The technique you were using of slowly reeling the minnows back to you seems like it could also be used for flounder/fluke fishing.
It is a lot of fun catching perch. Tell you a story a friend and me took two other guys with us fishing for perch, at that time the limit was 50 well we limited out and got back home about 9 that evening, and was getting ready to clean them and the other two guys said they didn’t want any and wasn’t going to help clean them. Well my friend and me started cleaning at 9:30 that evening and got done about 3 in the morning, but we had a lot of perch to put in the freezer loved it can’t beat perch fishing
I lived in Huron, Ohio when I was a kid. Back then, I never knew other fish existed! LOL! STILL my all time favorite fish to eat. Anyone watching who has never tried them, has no clue what they are missing! Went ice fishing for them, with a cousin of mine, in the UP. They just aren't the same as the ones caught from Lake Erie. Don't know why. Seems as though they are sweeter?
I fished Lake Erie for 20 plus years I’m here to tell you the bigger the minnow the more you will catch walleyes or at least it was for me. Just thought I would put my thoughts in it
at home, you will need to put them in pails and keep the water changed in the pails daily - or perhpas even twice daily depending on how many minnow you have and how hot the water is
Buy a 10 gallon fish tank and set it up with a filter and air bubbler. I've had minnows survive several months. Keep the water cold and change a small portion every two days.
I’m in lake county Ohio I miss yellow perch we haven’t r seen perch in 6 years also they’ve allowed commercial netting unlimited numbers each commercial boat has hauls of 25,000 40,000 perch per day it’s sad once they deplete the perch they’re gonna destroy out walleye also we don’t have shiner minnows anywhere anymore

...depends, but 6 jumbos will give you 12 nice fillets, along side of a veggie and some fries or rice, you will have a good meal :)
About 4 to 6 fillets or 3 whole fish French fries some nice fresh bread coleslaw and brother that's a meal!
To me crappie is the best then perch and walleye
