18:04 Noooooo! Why did you give up here. Your opponent screwed up and started an infinite loop since Amalias power was above 20 she would not destroy the board resulting in infinite triggers and ending the game in a draw
The problem I find with Mistcaller is that it gets bad Phoenix players and exiles them, so it makes you think it’s good. But in reality the effect is on board so people just play round it, same with Sorin. Chord and Coco is all it really hits.
Sometimes forcing them to play around it is all you need. You have a clock. You're the proactive aggro deck. Any opportunity you have to slow them down is significant
Congrats on the challenge win! Also I have to say, that witness protection interaction at 34:45 was so damn funny, I had to pause and rewind a few times on that one lol
@nikachuplaysmtg I have the arena qualifier to play, I qued through limited and am not up to date on pioneer/Explorer. If I played this merfolk deck, would there be anything you'd change about the challenge winning list? And what's your opinion on the decks matchups vs Phoenix, Mono Red/RG prowess, Amalia, RB Vampires and UW control? I suspect those to be the most played decks.
@@treyburro5525 Changes I would make: +2 Eaten by Piranhas -2 Jadelight Spelunker in main. -2 Eaten by Piranhas +2 Tishana's Tidebinder in sideboard Match ups: Phoenix: Even. I'm optimistic it could be better if I have a better plan vs it. Red/RG Prowess: Terrible Amalia: Even Vampires: Great UW Control: Great
Mist-Cloaked Herald is a good call, given the no Islandwalk lords it having evaision is actually relevant. I'm less sure on Spelunker, there's a chance it could be Mistcaller. I'm sure you already know this and will nail the list with more testing.
Its funny how they banned walking ballista as it was combo with Heliod… Pioneer was not to be a combo format as legacy and Modern… well… Pioneer is combo city… so give us back walking ballista… 😂
I dont think extraction specialist can attack or block as long as the other creature it reanimated is on the battlefield. Stinky Amalia. Edit: Sorry its the reanimated creature cant attack or block.
I'm really glad you're releasing gameplay videos again. I've always enjoyed watching them.
I love the big card view. I hope you keep it like that in the future 🤞
Especially for the opponents decks when MH3 drops
Yeah this will be the default from now on. I like how it looks.
Great vid, Nikachu. I love the way you're highlighting the cards on the right. Also, did you always do that? I honestly don't remember
I just started doing it because I don't have a chat so I might as well try to highlight the cards.

would end in a win as they would time out no?
@@nickmillar2245 no, it's always a tie. They do lose some time but is not enough to lose
Thanks so much! I learned something valuable here!

Now that MH3 is out I can't wait to tell people "Merfolk" when they ask me what deck I play in any format.
I’ve been playing merfolk is OS, Vintage, Revised 40, Legacy, Modern and now it’s good to have a decent deck in Pioneer
Congrats on the challenge win! Also I have to say, that witness protection interaction at 34:45 was so damn funny, I had to pause and rewind a few times on that one lol
Thanks!
Cant wait to try out my new goodies in Modern Merfolk. It’s a whole new world
Congrats on the pioneer challenge win!
Thanks! I'm glad I tested these 1-drops, it helped my Challenge winning decklist.

Thanks for the video!
Why did you concede G2 R1 to amalia. The loop was infinite no? (18:30)
Because I didn’t know it was infinite. Another comment also mentioned this. I learned a valuable lesson in this comment section today.
Merfolk Secret keeper(0/4) is my secret weapon First turn! with all the +1/+1 in the deck you can get it easily to 1/5, 2/6 or 3/7 in no time!

I actually won the Pioneer Challenge today with 4x Spelunker in the main thanks to this league's playtesting.
@@nikachuplaysmtg That's huge, I'm sure it would help a lot late game! Congrats on the result!
@@nikachuplaysmtg please make a video on that deck list!

No, don’t. I hate this card 😅
53:30 can't you just infinitely block with pilgrimage tokens produced by copter crewing and mutavault? when does the big bad get trample?
They put Aetherflux Reservoir on top of their library and I cannot counter it. They will shoot me for 50 damage.

Any consideration of pick your poison for the sideboard?
None for the time being. Pick your poison is too hit or miss vs the decks you’ll side it in against.
Mh3 is here man what are you doing on pioneerrrrr!❤
It's not public online until the 11th.
MH killed modern. Pioneer is better
I think Mist-Cloaked Herald should be in the main and Mistcaller should be in the sideboard.
I don't think we have enough sideboard slots for this.
Why not 8 mistcloak😅
Well, I want to test Spelunker too :P
I dont think boseiju can kill mutavault. Its neither an artifact nor enchantment and it doesnt become one
boseiju hits non basic lands
Boseiju hits non-basic lands...
