I shoulda watched this the day it dropped. I am subscribed now, I didn't realize I wasn't. I wonder why we aren't on 4 Cavern of Souls for the Murktide and Control matchups? Also it compliments the 4 Chalice SB plan. I have found it useful that after Harbinger of the Seas lands we get our real Blue sources for hard-casting Force and Flare. I suppose the easy answer is to make sure we hit T2 Spreading Seas here, but I was wondering if there is something more to it. All I can think is maybe I don't hold up Flare, Force and Sink mana as often as I ought to.

Thanks for the upload :) Some thoughts from this video: Match 1 seemed like a good case for Jegantha companion. As are any of the control matches where you slow down on gas allowing them to turn the corner. Also v control, 4 Mystical Dispute feels like too many since most of their removal isn't blue - diversify into 2 dispute, 2 other 1 mana counterspell? you touched on this when spoke about dispute in your Match 4. I'm not a fan of the 10 x1 drop build since it changes your odds of opening with one on turn 1 from approx 1 in 5 to approx 1 in 4 but YMMV. a key game to see this as a problem in action would be game 1 Match 5 where you have no copter block due to lack of 1 mana play turn 1. Vs. Prowess, I don't think I've ever seen you win the race - time to go full defence vs them? Win long game with big vigilant Sentinels and deeproot pilgrimage overload in late game? my sideboard plan vs aggro atm is -4 copter, -1 or 2 pilgrimage, -1 hexcatcher, +3 fading hope, + all frog effects. Again jegantha plays into the long game plan of gumming up the ground here. I really, really would love to see you try playing 2 Flootpits Drowner maindeck. I think you'll be suprised by its flexibility At the end you mentioned collected company as likely better vs. prowess builds. Perhaps main deck coco deck and side into tempo/aggro variant vs. control? or vice versa?

What would you change about the list if you expected to see a lot of UB murktide, I.e. a lot of decks with bowmaster? Switch drowner for harbinger of the tide? 2-2 split?

I'm trying my luck at an RCQ this Saturday. This was very helpful. I am expecting to see more Dimir Frog than Energy, I think I want to play some Relics, is that a card I should shelf? Also thinking on playing 2 Spell Snare main over Dockhand, the idea being I can drop Vial/Shaper/Dism t1, t2 hold up for flash creature/snare.

Rough one. Keep trying. There are some very tough match ups in this format.🤨

Nikachu, what do you think of the merfolk version with cauldron, the explore merfolks, kioras follower and cache grab? Especially cache grab looks like it has good synergy with the cauldron, doesnt it? Or alternativly: Mockingbird as another set of 2 Mana merfolk lords?

Personally, I snap Force or counter The One Ring 100% of the time. I know it deals damage, but just that one turn fog sucks as an Aggro player. And feels like digging an additional 3-4 is always enough for the ring decks to stabilize!

It actually is worth considering throwing away Tide Shaper and Hexcatcher to counter that Manamorphose @1:00:05. You can just follow it up with a Harbinger of the Seas and that basically guarantees they won't cast spells for the rest of the game.

Lol @54:30 is this why you were asking me questions about Belcher? 😛 You definitely want to counter the Recross BTW, for everyone out there at home. They can't use Pact of Negation to protect Recross, but they CAN use Pact to try and resolve Reforge the Soul and their 7 card hand will have 1-2 Pact in it.

late to the party but I had the same problem with angels in modern. The biggest setback is you can only cast EXACTLY how many counters are on aether, not X amount or less. (more of an angel problem than merfolk). I'm right with you, something like Urza's Incubator helps a lot more or just mana dorks.

those were really good games. super well played! i realized so many of the decisions you made I would not have made, and I DEFINITELY wouldve lost so many of those games bc of that.

I think Damping Sphere is looking pretty redundant in the list, at least in the Tron matchup, and especially with Tide Shapers and Harbinger of the Seas. I like it as a problem card versus Ruby Storm, but I don't know that matchup well enough to say what the strategy is. I made it all the way to the end lol, very helpful to me in terms of learning, and especially unlearning years of bad habits.

Been playing Standard Enduring Curiosity with Tishana's Tidebinder and Floodpit Drowner. It reminds me of this weird mashup of Modern Merfolk and Pioneer Spirits

I've been trying Drowner in the side in place of Dismember, which is probably wrong, but I just don't like Dismember in the current meta and am desperately seeking a functional alternative. The one place where it's been hilariously good is against mill, which I seem to run into a lot more on MTGO than I would otherwise expect.
