The thing that people don't realise when they compare CR7 and Messi is that, due to Messi's height, it is easier for him to dribble past players as naturally he has a low centre of gravity. CR7's height and physicality makes it difficult for him to have a similar dribbling style. But at the same time, he doesn't have to depend only on his dribbling and passing attributes to score/assist. If you stop Messi from dribbling (albeit the defenders have to be VERY VERY good to do that), he doesn't have much other than his passing ability to assist. But ever since CR7 got his knee injury in 2014 and his dribbling significantly reduced, he has still produced insane numbers in both goals and assists, even after turning 30 he has more goals and assists than some players have in their entire career. Point being, he's not a one trick pony and has multiple attributes to his game which unfortunately cannot be said about Messi.
cristiano played majority of his carrer in the left wing, as he become older he became more of a center striker. Messi is a false 9, he played sometimes in the right wing but his prime was at the middle as the primary striker and late is his carrer more of a midlfilder classic 10

Like I will always say different players one is short, the other is tall, you can't expect them to move the ball the same way infact cristiano is one of the better Tall players that can move the ball like that Kaka,Henry,Zidane to mention few who are in that category. If you play football you'd understand, Tall players that keep the ball close I have a soft spot for them, because being tall you legs can get in the way of the other. But shorter footballers like Pele,Maradona, Messi, Insigne, Carzola, Iniesa, Xavi etc are gems as well, the ball is always within a certain radius because they can't outrun longer legs so they manipulate it with their radius and Messi is best at that. Phenomenal stuff, the two greatest footballers to walk this earth at this time.
We play football and we know that football is easier for tall players yeah. That's why people say that they are completely different players and shouldn't be compared, their job on the field is very different although they are both attackers. CR7 played LW until he got injured in 2014, after that he played more Left Forward and Striker. Messi plays centre attacking mid and centre forward. Both positions are very different from each other, but from first hand experience it is more difficult to score as a LW than it is to score as a CAM.
