- Oscar Peterson Trio for the first time in Budapest, Hungary.
Erkel Theatre, 1970 December 15.
In 1970's Oscar was at the height of his musical prowess, he proved with this
transcendent solo performance. Oscar studied with Paul de Marky, who was
a hungarian concert pianist in the 19th-century tradition of Franz Liszt, who
was also hungarian. Liszt's student was István Thomán a hungarian piano
virtuoso and music educator. He was a notable piano teacher, with students
including Béla Bartók, Ernő Dohnányi, and Paul de Marky...
With this concert i think Peterson gave back a little bit of this hungarian musical heritage
to the Budapest audience. And NHØP couldn't stop smiling...
Probably OP and NHØP played together for the first time in this concert? Maybe...

Overwhelming.....once you start listening there is no turning back
One of the most awesome pianist, EVER!!! I think that he was and is the most influential mission of any time period!
The Hungarians really loved that last zinger on the strings. Syncopated clapping says it all. Tremendous performance! Thank you for posting Mr. Szekeres.
Until Oscar came along, universally Liszt was considered the greatest pianist of all time. Now, according to Yehudi Menuhin it is Oscar Peterson. May he rest in peace, the. beauty he bestowed on us, will stay forever.
He throws in a little Someone To Watch Over Me around the 5:40 mark.
Hi Andras, Many thanks for this awesome post. Just wondering if you have the whole of this concert? Would love to see it. Keep up the good work. Thank you🙏🙏🙏🙏
It's just beautiful...amazing performance of the greatest Oscar Peterson...I'd love Niels smiling...thanks!
If I would have been there, my jaw would still be somewhere on the floor.
From France incroyable une technique enoooorme mais la soul l âme le j❤azz d abord mon père pianiste professionnel a paris disait que c était le meilleur au monde
There are no words to fully describe the greatness of the Maharaja of the keyboard, Oscar Peterson 🙏🏽
Just amazing!
Sacred monster, the best.
👏Как всегда, великолепно!!!! Спасибо Вам, Андраш!
So interesting to hear his early style.
Man this is incredible! How do you get your hands on this rare material? Amazing!
Hi! Haha:) I live in Budapest, so…actually this was recorded by me few years ago from MTV (Hungarian National TV). Honestly, 2025 will be the year of the 100th anniversary of Peterson’s birth. With my research i would like to inspire other people to upload more and more videos from the vault, like i do. These treasures have to be public, and listenable to everyone. TH-cam launched almost 20 years ago, and so many Peterson records, concerts, and broadcast videos are still hidden. This needs to be changed , and i will bring to you more and more rarities :) Andris

Not bad. Who is this guy?

Ray Price is the drummer of Another Day album. Pianoforte have no secrets to Oscar. Pornographic virtuosism.
Ez után ki mer leülni zongorázni?
Fiatal volt,tele tűzzel,megette a zongorát.
Magasan felette állt a többi zongoristáknak de még ma is.Ilyen már nem lesz senki soha...
6:34 -nél a jobb kéz szerinted? Rachmaninov második zongoraverseny lassú tétel?
Not Body and soul, it’s ROUND MIDNIGHT
Obviously he plays both, he starts with Round Midnight, and from the second half ot the video he continues with Body and Soul...kind of a 'medley'.
Say, QuickDraw; you have to stick around to hear Body & Soul.
