Heck, Smash Ultimate has almost 100 fighters, and i'm struggling to find a character I adore, I can't imagine only having one with the rest essentially being DLC. They could've at least given a basic trio like an all-arounder, a power tank, and a rapid hitter and then have more advanced characters as DLC

Once you finish the tutorial you pretty much straight away unlock two more and the currency to unlock the other characters is unlockable for free too
@@jimmityjam9319it may be "free" but how much of the currency do you need to spend and how easy is it to earn the currency.
@Raysay I mean excluding the lvl up mecahnic. For a free game. It's not bad. Unlocking fighters isn't bad. You get a bit for free like the person above said. There's alot of good starters to play until you unlock the guy you want. If you put the same amount of money for game you could just get the characters. So it's a good trade off.
I think that the problem is that there are too many characters in smash. Having it this way makes sure that you can learn each character fully before going into the next one
Idk why, but I think Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games would be a bangernof a game. And with multiple in the franchise who are technically different games, I see it as a few gaps filled for the rest of the year.

Interesting-
When you mentioned that the moves seemed to lack some oomph (or something along those lines) it reminded me of Sakurai's videos on the topic, and yeah, it really doesn't have the punchy sound effects that feel satisfying when you hit a big move, and there was no screen shake either. The low level of hitstun probably wasn't helping either.
Perhaps it would feel a little better with those things added, if even just a little bit.
i love seeing you both play combo characters and not knowing what the combo's are it makes me feel alot better about get destroyed by your characters on ladder knowing its extualy not as easy as they sometimes make it look
Ive been playing this game for like 4 months
Sivi is mario, he has up air combos for days
You get Sophia, who is Marth, after 10 games
Theres only ground attacks (not tilt/smash, but you have jab, fground, down ground and up ground) , but full up down neutral and side specials, and full aerial arsenal (up down neutral forward and back)
Only forward and bqck throws.
It has ultimate parries
Wave dashing is fine, the jump you get sometimes is being fixed
Theyre adding more funtionality to the training room and fixing controller support by adding more options
Theres 15 characters with four types of characters
Assaulter: they can cancel certain moves into jumps or dashes. Kamiki yuri and Sivi are both assaulters. The bkue flash you see is the cancel indicator
Heavies: they have smash 4 rage, no one else does
All rounders: fill a bar, get a super move.
Impeders: special ability where if you hit their shiled you build meter and get a super grab
Its pay to win because stickers, but honestly the game gives you plenty of chances to earn stuff free. And its pretty reasonably priced.
Its a mobile game, so monetizatin does suck, but youll get what you need by playing the game regularly.

Okay honestly: A sudden death that doesn’t set you to neutral is actually pretty sick. Not winning the game because you were like 0.09 seconds away from the person you just Rested actually going offscreen has always been soft

You only start out with one character. After playing some matches, you unlock some other characters for free. If I remember correctly, one of them is the character Alpha started the video playing. That said, only having like 4 free characters is still stupid
This Smash bros copy is not as pay to win as Naughty Bear for the xbox 360 and ps3!

Oh man, I almost started playing this game myself. That is, until I found out every single character was locked behind a grind lol.
Brawlhalla did it and then every platform fighter that did it afterwards made it a little more tedious

Why does sword girl look like she comes from a different game? The way her face and hair are stylized looks completely different from the other two
I think that's intentional? There are a few characters that have very different art styles, like a magician who's basically just Wario. I believe it's to give the same "crossover" feeling as Smash, even if the characters are all original.
I want you to play "Platform Fighter Engine". The showcase demo is free and some of the characters are really interesting even tho they're all geometric shapes. Trust me it's a cool game. even has rollback. There's even a character with falco dair for Jo.
I don't think Alpharad ever figured out what his second character's gimmick/meter was.
I really like flash party. They want your money bad but I enjoy the online. You can combo consistently and connections are better then smash online at least

The pay-to-win in the game comes from the stickers, which fundamentally change your character's playstyle and increases their stats.
The stickers are also primarily only earned through a gacha system.
Flash Party is an ok game, there's nothing inherently wrong with the way it plays... that is, if you understand it.
The game lacks tutorials, any way to communicate information on how characters work, and it doesn't even have a training mode.
It's just very difficult to get into it, specially if you don't have the opportunity to truly explore your character's options
There's always been character specific tutorials explaining the basics of every character. They added a training mode shortly after your comment, but always had a bare bones training (now there's a few settings for ai behaviour, damage, di lines, etc)

I get that there's only so many ways in the world to animate punches and kicks for a humanoid character, but I really wish indie platform fighters would stop directly copying so many of their animations directly from Smash. It gives off a pretty bad impression, I think
Sivi's upair is straight up Terry up-air called somersault kick. Kamiki Yuri's up tilt also really looks eerily familiar to someone in smash but I can't put finger on it. Some of these animations might be stolen I wonder or just traced.
@@Shrow88 since both games use 3D animation, I don't think it's possible to directly "trace" it. However, I do agree they could fully imitate the animations, and it really looks like that's what they did.

Smash has been pay to win as long as Smash has had DLC characters. They intentionally make the DLC characters better than the core cast to drive sales.

I think most platform fighters fail so quickly is because they cater to the competitive scene instead of the casuals. The stages are ps2 or battlefield with a 3 stock rule set. These games need items, wacky stages, and at least an arcade mode if not some campaign.

Yeah, only having 1 character for free is bs. You wanna see how to do it right? Look at Smite. It’s a moba, not fighter, so numbers obviously a bit different, but principals are the same. To start you get 2 characters of each class, for a total of 10. In addition, you earn free currency (favor) easily, and can spend favor to unlock more gods. But not just that, there are something like 8 gods that have a significantly reduced favor cost. In addition to that, you can spend a much lower amount of favor to rent a god, to try them out for a short time. But it’s still not done, theres a weekly free rotation of 1 god of every role (5 total) where you can play them as much as you want for that week. Oh, and in jungle practice (their training room mode) all gods are free to use whenever, purchased or not. Oh, and they do a ton of promotions with free god unlocks, like right now they have a crossover with vshojo, and so theres a free perk for all game pass members that unlocks skadi, nemesis, nu wa, persephone, serqet, and izanami, plus gives some account boosters. So there are ample ways to unlock characters, obviously for a smaller game just starting out promos and free rotation not super great now, but could easily have an in game currency that is used to unlock new characters, have a couple of them especially cheap, and start with 2 or 3. Once you get a handful more characters, then make a free rotation 1 character per week free to use for everyone. The numbers don’t have to be larger, but they certainly shouldn’t be a 1.
As a smash 3ds player I can confirm that I never grabbed because I was like 7 amd only used kirby hammer because it was strong

I know they're talking over it, and I haven't played the game myself, but something about the sound design feels off. For example, why is the airdodge or wavedashing sound louder than everything else??

The game seems to have counter hits like a traditional fighter; I think most smash likes don't do CHs. Another thing I know is meta in smash is punishing unsafe moves with grabs. But that's not meta in traditional FGs. So maybe you're supposed to just attack? You tried a lot of things but not this, I guess because maybe block punishment isn't a common thing in smash likes?

I actually played this game thoroughly for one season, and I somewhat liked it.
But it's very P2W given how you can boost the moves of your characters through Colorful Stickers and stuff. My heavy hitter was hitting WAY HARDER than all the others, and some of her attacks had a bigger range than regular too
