    Great video, loved the smoothness! The orange things are cable protectors that allow cabling/wires related to track circuiting and signalling to pass under the track whilst affording the cables protection from passing trains. Can't wait for the next video, Ben.

    Peter, this is another great video. I have re-watched your original video of the route before commenting and the improvement in image quality is most noticeable, as is the professionalism of your commentary. Many thanks, Roger Crick

      +Roger Crick thanks Roger. I notice the commentary in the original video wasn't very clear, and as I was just starting out at the time I wasn't sure what I was doing. I hope you enjoyed the improved frame rate on this video?

    yo pete, this is one of my favourite routes to drive on, thank you ever so much for making the return journey.

    The orange tube is just a long hollow tube to protect any wires from coming into contact with the train,

  • @NiCk-bf1oh
    @NiCk-bf1oh 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Those Orange/Yellow Tubes under the Tracks are to protect the Cables crossing the line, it reduces the chance of them getting caught under the Rail/Sleeper or from getting Vandalised

    The orange tube is cable trunking which stops cables from being damaged by trains

  • @Synnystershy
    @Synnystershy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think wires run through the orange tubes when the 3rd rail switches sides of the track so passing trains don't cause damage. But I may be wrong. And wires for signals too.

    • @simonmd2000
      @simonmd2000 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Sir Peepsalot Yes, these are ot carry the high power lines seen on the '3rd rail' DC systems from one side of the track to the other. They are simply bright orange as a safety measure to make sure that track maintenance personnel know theyre there. It's not to stop them being damaged by trains as if a train got into a position to actually touch those cables, I think that would be the least of their worries anyway!

    It's sad how the IOW railway went from nearly 53 mile of track down to less than 10 miles. Lost nearly 75% of its railway.

    Great vid, but, as an electric/electronics engineer, I feel I need to point out one would only use the series and parallel setting to drive the train. Shunt setting on the DC motors will barely move the train when it's empty; loaded with passengers it might not move at all (it would just sit there heating up or even roll backwards if it was on a gradient).
    Obviously Railworks (or Train Simulator or whatever you would like the incremental increase in graphical fidelity and gameplay complexity the current version offers) gets this all wrong as, at it's core, it doesn't simulate what is actually going on. Instead it relies on a grossly oversimplified equation of "locomotion" since 2001. And don't even get me started on the coupler physics, which TS ignores, but is the bane of Tane.
    It's strange how, in English, a form of the word shunt, is both used for both the act of moving out of service trains and using DC motors in a way in which most of the current flows through "the shunts", so the motors don't have the torque to really accellerate the way they might, allowing for slow speed control.
    In Dutch we do use the term "shunt" for using a DC motor in the slow speed control mode, but use a different word for actually moving "not in service" stock: "rangeren", which transates to "arrenge in the proper order".

    • @PTGRail
      @PTGRail  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jan Verschueren thanks for the info. Hopefully things will be more realistic in future iterations of TS. :)

    Out of interest, if there was a constructed route and scenario that was created that was not applicable by Steam and only by free download from a user that (the route) had lots of history, depth and information behind it, would you ever consider a route learning video? :)

      @PTGRail  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would love to have your steam account. How much have you spent on train sim ic you dont mind me asking? I've spent £105, with £65 in the last 2 weeks. When I got my first DLC I thought the trains and routes were separate, so I got the South London Network, the Class 465, and Class 170, since I live in Hastings. Since then i am £10 away from the 1066 line. I have all but the North Somerset Railway, but I do have: Portsmouth Main Line (it's literally £19 more just to go a couple of miles inside the M25 and two more locos. I also have the London-Faversham, North London and Goblin, New Jersey, South Wales Coastal and am going to buy Bristol-Swansea for £10 (£25) whilst it's on a 60% sale. The London to Brighton, Chatham Main and Chatham main and Medway, Town Scemery pack, Hamburg to Lubeck, and a few others. I have a joint map of North and South + Goblin lines in London. Good day😂. Its probably over by the time you read this.
